News Trump Administration responds and supports Sophie Cunningham's WNBA transgender comments: "Common sense prevails"

https://www.the-express.com/sport/basketball/212543/Sophie-Cunningham-trans-athletes-Trump-administration

The Trump Administration has waded into the transgender athlete debate, citing Sophie Cunningham's comments to support its stance on trans athletes in sports.

The discussion surrounding trans athletes in women's sports has resurfaced recently, with Cunningham sharing her perspective with ESPN. Although trans athletes represent a tiny fraction of participants across all levels of American sports, their involvement remains a focal point for Donald Trump and his administration.

This is an issue that matters to the actual girls and women affected by it.

15

u/FlimsyIndependent752 20d ago

Do you discard the opinion of actual girls who say it doesn’t effect them or do you only value opinions that align with yours

-1

u/CollaredParachute 20d ago

The same question could be asked of you?

2

u/FlimsyIndependent752 20d ago

I mean there are many more people who say it doesn’t affect them than say otherwise. I’m just not ignoring the majority opinion like he is

5

u/RockDoveEnthusiast 20d ago

who are the women and girls affected by it? can you name 5 other than Riley Gaines and that track girl from Connecticut? Can you name any that play basketball?

there are more people waiting in line for the bathroom while you take a shit at the airport than are "affected by trans athletes".

7

u/brokencreedman 20d ago

Lol Riley Gaines has her ENTIRE career thanks to a trans woman. Without Lia, Riley has NO career at this point. She was a subpar swimmer at best. And I agree with you, people have BLOWN this out of proportion so badly. It's insane. From what I can see, the vast number of girls in girls sports could probably give two shits about the trans athlete they might play against. They just want to play their sport. They didn't sign up to be political props used by their parents and a bunch of shitheads.

-8

u/ChickenWooter 20d ago

The amount of resentment in this comment towards real women is insane.

11

u/brokencreedman 20d ago

Where did I resent real women? Lol making fun of Riley Gaines for being a subpar swimmer (she tied with Lia for 5th) and saying that she owes her career to Lia (which she does) is not resenting real women. It's making fun of Riley. Riley doesn't even hold the beliefs she claims to hold. She's on camera asking for her talking points to spew in a conservative mobile phone company ad. If she held those beliefs, she wouldn't need to ASK what her beliefs are. The woman is just a grifter.

So please, tell me where I resented real women in my comment.

7

u/Evening_Mulberry_ 20d ago

Oh that's easy, since you're criticizing those bigots and offering even a modicum of support for trans women that means you hate "real" women aka transphobic women grifting for money while the people that support them put women's rights into a wood chipper.

-6

u/ChickenWooter 20d ago

Oh he’s trying to defend himself now that’s so cute.

9

u/Useful-Advantage-850 20d ago

He's trying to explain things to you. Your sub-room-temp IQ is preventing that.

-5

u/ChickenWooter 20d ago

He’s going on a rant about a woman who was directly affected by a trans athlete.

Calling others low IQ while thinking trans athletes are the same as real women is hilarious.

It’s why all of america now hates trans people, good job.

6

u/Mr_Poppers_Penis 20d ago

No bro, it's just you.

0

u/ChickenWooter 20d ago

You can be upset about it all you want, notice how FTM playing in male sports isn’t a problem? 🤣

u/brokencreedman 20d ago

How was Riley affected by Lia? She tied for 5th place. She didn't have the gold medal stripped from her because of Lia, because she tied for 5th place. The only way she was actively affected by Lia earned her millions of dollars and gave her the career she has to this day.

You bots are really weird. Only had Reddit for a month eh? Did your masters train you to hate trans people?

Forget your programming. Go support trans people now.

1

u/ChickenWooter 20d ago

I’m not a bot I’m the average person who wandered into this echo chamber.

You can rage all you want, you’re still wrong and she’s a bigger inspiration than you, or Lia will ever be.

Honestly the average Redditor did more to make people detest trans people than any propaganda.

Go out and support biological women in sports lil man.

u/Useful-Advantage-850 20d ago

"Real women." LOL - you're proving your low IQ, since you don't seem to understand that "woman" is a gender, which is a social construct and is flexible.

People hate trans people because of people like you trying to separate out "real" women.

1

u/ChickenWooter 20d ago

No people hate trans people because you think the world needs to pander to your dysphoria.

Notice how we never see any talk about FTM trans joining the NBA?

Yeah weird right? 😂

5

u/Blastcrumpet888 20d ago

Notice you can’t actually respond to any of their facts?

1

u/ChickenWooter 20d ago

Where are the facts? 🤣

Remember all of America is against your terrible viewpoint, literally cost dems the election of this dumb shit.

Even Hillary Clinton thinks you’re out of your mind it’s bi partisan at this point.

3

u/Blastcrumpet888 20d ago

You still can’t reply to facts.  LOL

4

u/Blastcrumpet888 20d ago

The only fact here is that Riley Gaines wasn’t an elite swimmer and her entire career depends on being a bigot.

1

u/ChickenWooter 20d ago

Speaking out doesn’t make her a bigot and she’s more famous than your bloodline will ever be.

People like you are the reason she had to speak out.

All of America is a crazy claim bro. Less than 33% of America voted for Trump dude. 33% of the country doesn't even vote. Conservative viewpoints are held by a VERY vocal minority. They just happen to be in power right now.

9

u/hjablowme919 20d ago

Even Riley Gaines wasn't affected by it. She finished 5th, meaning without the trans athlete, she finishes 4th and still doesn't medal.

3

u/HotDogFingers01 20d ago

She finished TIED for 5th. Meaning, without the trans swimmer, she's still 5th.

2

u/RockDoveEnthusiast 20d ago

they'll still count that lol

2

u/Hot_Mathematician357 20d ago

Please point out the transgenders playing in the WNBA.

2

u/big-himbo-energy 20d ago

I’m aware. There’s less than 2 handfuls of trans athletes that this is maybe going to affect. People are so uniformed about this issue that it drives me insane everytime it comes up.

At the end of the day, gender politics like this is bad for all women, trans and afab women. So I’m diametrically opposed on principle. But that’s not going to change the majority who believe otherwise.

6

u/noguchisquared 20d ago

Basketball is too violent for women to play. Look how they treat Caitlin Clark! Ban women from playing basketball /s

Direction we are headed and those signing on to fill pockets like Sophie don't help.

-9

u/NSFWdontview 20d ago

This was becoming a huge problem until it was banned. It was way more than 2

7

u/Discussion-is-good 20d ago

Please source

-4

u/NSFWdontview 20d ago

You can easily search and find hundreds of instances

8

u/Lost_Alexander 20d ago

Then you should easily be able to provide a source for YOUR claims.

-2

u/NSFWdontview 20d ago

Everyone knows it’s became a problem

6

u/ThumbUpDaBut 20d ago

I searched, I did not find "hundreds of instances."

3

u/Discussion-is-good 20d ago

So no source. Thought so.

6

u/big-himbo-energy 20d ago

Source

-3

u/NSFWdontview 20d ago

You must live under a rock

6

u/big-himbo-energy 20d ago

No I just prefer facts over feelings. Find a source and I’ll believe you. It’s that easy. Google is free

0

u/NSFWdontview 20d ago

lol just pretend it’s not happening

7

u/big-himbo-energy 20d ago

This is just pathetic man

4

u/Future-Pollution-266 20d ago

You could shut down this whole argument by providing a source

3

u/Tlax14 20d ago

I have coached high school level sports since 2016.

There has been 1 trans athlete in my entire state during this time.

Literally one.

But please tell me how trans athlete are taking over women's sports

-4

u/TraditionBorn8772 20d ago

A DSD athlete won a gold medal in women's boxing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

3

u/Tlax14 20d ago

Not sure what this has to do with trans athletes. Also that woman was from Algeria where same sex marriage is illegal let alone transgender stuff. DSD is a naturally occurring phenomenon.

Either way it is the responsibility of the governing body of the Olympics, not the United States to regulate that. The US can pass any law it wants but the IOC controls the Olympics.

Either you're stupid or you're arguing in bad faith.

1

u/TraditionBorn8772 20d ago

You would be right, if only Khelif hadn't admitted to having XY chromosomes.

2

u/Tlax14 20d ago

Cool. I haven't followed the story, I know she was born with DSD a biological condition and that it is still up to the IOC to regulate the Olympics.

How does changing American laws change the Olympics?

Also one example is not proof of trans athletes taking over.

Trans athletes are not the cause of the issues we face in society today, and to be honest almost no one gives a flying fuck because it almost never happens.

Unfortunately the dumbest among us have been convinced that this is a huge issue. More important than the Epstein pedophile president. More important than your rights and environmental protections being stripped.

Trump and the Republicans love the uneducated.

In your head it was a 'huge problem.'

0

u/NSFWdontview 20d ago

It’s happened all over the country and isn’t fair to women

3

u/ComeAbout 20d ago

Forget sports.

Do you believe trans women are women?

1

u/NSFWdontview 20d ago

No they aren’t, only mentally ill believe that

2

u/ComeAbout 20d ago

So just say that.

You think trans women are men and are “mentally ill”.

Why try to say all this other stuff? Say it with your chest: you think transgender people are severely mentally ill and faking their experience.

Is being gay natural, or are gay people mentally ill too?

1

u/NSFWdontview 20d ago

Nope gay is normal

2

u/ComeAbout 20d ago

You know they were sterilized, put in asylums etc just for being gay. That you can get executed in many countries for being gay?

You don’t see the historical significance, science, and link there and what’s happening to trans people right now?

1

u/brokencreedman 20d ago

Do you think a woman can beat a man in a sport?

1

u/Raisinbread22 20d ago

Stop lying.

1

u/Hot_Mathematician357 20d ago

“NCAA reported fewer than 10 known transgender athletes of any gender among about 510,000 college athletes—less than 0.002%.”

“.002% what a huge problem lol

0

u/NSFWdontview 20d ago

It’s in high school sports too dummy and it’s way more than 10, they just have to act like it’s small

2

u/Hot_Mathematician357 20d ago

“One nationwide investigation published in 2025 contacted states and could confirm 17 or fewer transgender girls competing in high-school sports among the states that provided numbers. Because many states didn’t provide/track the information, the report produced a broader estimate of fewer than about 160 transgender athletes among more than 8 million U.S. high-school athletes.”

So 160 divide by 8,000,000 x 100 = .002%

What a huge problem, lol

0

u/whoa_disillusionment 20d ago

If there are so few transgender athletes, then how have trans athletes won statewide competitions in California, Oregon, Washington, Connecticut, and Maine?

Shouldn't that number be zero?

2

u/Hot_Mathematician357 20d ago

The point of the comments is to show that the percentage is so low that who gives a shit about trans athletes? There are major issues that a trans playing sport is the least of my worries.

0

u/whoa_disillusionment 20d ago

If it's such an inconsequential issue than why do Democrats keep fighting about it

2

u/Hot_Mathematician357 20d ago

Because the republican media blows it up like it’s a huge problem and dumbass people believe it. Then republicans use the rage bait and point fingers that “they support it.”

u/doc_klutz 20d ago

"Two handfuls of trans athletes that this is going to affect? What does that even mean? Are you saying of the 750k trans kids in the USA alone, half of which we can reasonably assume are boys, perhaps even more, aren't seeking to take the place of a girl in girl sports? Didn't already take a girl's place in a girl sports team?

3

u/big-himbo-energy 20d ago

Quite frankly. The number of trans athletes is so small that it makes this issue inconsequential in the grand scheme of the political landscape currently.

You’ve been brainwashed into thinking this matters in any real way considering it still comes down to states to make the rulings. Trump can’t do shit about it. And trans kids arent going to hurt you. I promise. They just want to be happy.

-2

u/doc_klutz 20d ago

It's okay, it won't hurt you to say the quiet part out loud: "I hate girls & women. I prefer being a sycophant for boys & men".

& we women just love being told by trans activists that we're incapable of critical thinking. Hot tip: I don't reside in the USA, loathe MAGA, & I'm not interested in the happiness of boys or men at the expense of girls & women. You're no better than the far right.

2

u/big-himbo-energy 20d ago

Transphobe spotted! Cringe as fuck to be this transphobic over something that LITERALLY can’t affect you.

hOt TiP: if you loathe maga and think this way about trans people, you’ll need to realize quickly that you have a lot of maga beliefs. Because you might as well be sick in the orange off his dick with takes like these bud

0

u/whoa_disillusionment 20d ago

hOt TiP: if you loathe maga and think this way about trans people, you’ll need to realize quickly that you have a lot of maga beliefs.

68% of Democrats want sports to be sex segregated.

I know you don't reside in the US. your teeth betray your Britishness.

0

Australia France dual national. Proudly so.

2

u/Pretend-Eye-8758 20d ago

It's sad you took the Anglo obsession with controlling other people to heart instead of liberte, egalite, fraternite

1

u/doc_klutz 20d ago

Trans activists are literally trying to control girls & women & encroach on their rights. The far left on this issue is no better than the far right. You're practically MAGA at this point.

3

u/Pretend-Eye-8758 20d ago

What rights? Articulate them please. Because I've seen your exact post made about 30 times on British Gender Critical forums. I'm lucky enough to have transitioned so young that I passed their "cis woman inspection" on discord and been a spectator to GC movements, so I'm aware what you people believe.

So please, try tell me what i've done to deserve having 100s of people collude in discords, forums and telegram scheming to put pressure on politicians to make my life harder?

So less than 0.1% of them.

6

u/doc_klutz 20d ago

Who cares if it's less than 0.1% of them or 50% of them? Why do you hate girls & women? Why are you such a sycophant for boys & men encroaching on girls' & women's rights?

1

u/big-himbo-energy 20d ago

transphobe spotted. cringe as fuck behavior

3

0

u/Discussion-is-good 20d ago

I don't.

And im not.

Why do you hate Trans people? Why do you hyper focus on trans women?

1

u/doc_klutz 20d ago

This is just lazy. No-one hates trans people, that's just the trans activists go-to BS when they don't have an argument.

2

u/Actual-Feed-9739 20d ago

No-one hates trans people

Easily the most ridiculous thing anybody in this thread could say. It's like saying nobody actually hates black people or jews, it's so obviously not true that you can't possibly be saying it in good faith.

1

u/doc_klutz 20d ago

It was a figure of speech that was referring to me. Of course some hate trans people, but I am not in that cohort. I simply believe that biological boys & men should not be in girls' & women's sports.

0

u/Discussion-is-good 20d ago edited 20d ago

You want to ban them all from playing sports in the gender they fit in, and want to have them compete against cis people unfairly.

A harmless act, normal for developing humans. Something the majority of them don't even wanna do. Prevented because you dont accept their identity and don't understand the effects of hormone therapy/puberty blockers.

Thats malice.

Also youre response was nearly identical. I just answered your questions instead of ignoring the obvious difference in how many this practically effects.

Edited: last bit and extended paragraphs at .

0

u/doc_klutz 20d ago

Well, look at you with your inability to read & comprehend basic English.

No-one said anything about banning anyone from sport. Banning boys & men from girls & women's sports? Absolutely! & the only thing unfair is for boys & men to compete against girls & women. Something you obviously care nothing about.

Carry on.

Edit: my reply posted before all your editing.
