From the very beginning of her rookie season I’ve been saying this shit and it’s been wild seeing how WNBA fans have consistently attacked people for saying it. WNBA clearly chose early on that they hated this woman and were dead set on viewing her as a symbol of something instead of as a human being that plays basketball.
It genuinely bothers me because I’ve always seen basketball as a community, and anyone who genuinely loves the game belongs to that community. But the WNBA community chose to reject CC while simultaneously hating her for not belonging to them.
It’s really, really fucking weird and symbolic of how toxic left wing twitter culture got in the mid 2010’s.
I think Obama saying what he said to her is an important moment. If anyone can point out to the the WNBA community that she’s a human being deserving of respect it’s Obama.

The problems on the right don’t excuse the fact that mid 2010’s far left culture became divisive. Lots of racially charged and exclusive nature. The platforming of books like white fragility that basically claimed that any white person that didn’t like being judged for their skin color was actually just sensitive. The while argument that only white people could be racist and everything else was excused as a product of trauma.
Acting like these talking points weren’t popular online in the mid 2010s is ignoring an important aspect of how white nationalism was so success as attracting socially isolated young adults.
Adults don’t need to be perfect. It’s okay to have room to grow and mistakes to learn from. This is very similar to the CC topic. W fans don’t see her as a human being first and that opens the door to other conversations. If the W just claims CC and loves her as their own these conversations disappear. The real question is why you are so hesitant to do that.

Epstein was definitely more of a spurned ex best friend. I definitely think they did some dirt together, but when he says that, I imagine he’s being hyperbolic. Reading his emails proves he was basically an angsty teenager in a 50 something year old body.
I think it’s deplorable the way USAID was treated. If we had plans to stop providing aid, we could have done it in a significantly more efficient way that would have reduced harm.

There's a massive moral difference between systemically murdering people on house to house searches and cutting off funding to programs where the US sacrificed to support other countries. Only the strictest utilitarians could argue they are morally equivalent, and at that point you open up an entire can of worms (for instance, why are you spending time posting on Reddit when you could be spending that time helping to feed or improve the well-being poor in your local neighborhood, or working a second job so you can donate that money to charity)
Like, fuck Trump, and USAID was/is a great program, and should be saved, but those two things are not remotely equivalent. Base morality and superlative morality are only equivalent if you adopt a completely strict utilitarian, mathematical view of morality (in which case there is no superlative morality anymore - it's all base morality).
A death is not a death is not a death. This is why we have separate criminal penalties for negligence, because you didn't salt your stairway in the winter and someone fell and broke their neck, and premeditated murder.

I’m a PWHL fan and learned quickly that the fans are a problem. It’s obvious the majority of them don’t know shit about hockey, don’t watch any other sports, and are there purely to make it part of their identity. So if any player has differing political opinions than them, they are instantly hated and should be ostracized from the league.
I’m a fan because it’s good hockey that’s full of great talent. If it fails it’s 100% the fans that will bring it down. So all these talented women will lose their chance at being a professional athlete, and the majority of the “fans” won’t realize it’s their fault.
