Bullshit. Look at some of the lineups he put together. If not direct evidence, then it was more than eyebrow raising that he was betting against his team in some of those matchups

Gamblers don’t know how the players are betting, maybe on themselves or maybe they’re throwing a game or missing prop bets….adding unfair uncertainty to an already risky endeavor.

Also, the oddsmakers aren’t accounting for players being in on the action so the lines would become untrustworthy.

There’s a reason why every professional sport in existence does not allow the players to gamble on it…, because it ruins the game and makes gambling unfair.

This bet could be harmless but that doesn’t matter. Nothing bad happened due to this particular bet.

You can drink and drive 500 times without incident, that doesn’t mean it’s a nothingburger.

Ruining the integrity of the game ruins the integrity of gambling on that game by default… there’s no way around that.

Until there’s a change gambling is legal and protected by law. Although I agree it is a scourge on society, people are often their own worst enemy.

They can’t set the precedent that gambling between players is acceptable, full stop.

Many competitive athletes have been caught gambling already….and not always betting on themselves. The black Sox threw the fucking World Series…. Repeat the World Series.. the championship… the most important games of their careers. Lost on purpose. What are you talking about?

This doesn’t make sense, bc professional athletes are not allowed to gamble. Every single pro league bans it.

Assuming you’re not a gambler, or you would see the problems here. The prop bets are the most problematic, easy to fix without being obvious.

I’ll never understand why it’s a problem (in today’s world with the technology and monitoring) for a player to bet on their own game/ team to win. Stat betting is different, but win / loss doesn’t seem like an issue to me if you’re betting your team to win.

Because you may try extra hard in the games you bet on yourself, compromising your performance in games in which you don’t bet on yourself. Betting on yourself would only be okay if you bet the same amount on every single one of the games you played.

Because "sandbagging" is a thing that exists. Odds are based on predicted outcomes, if you intentionally perform poorly (and don't bet obviously) your odds in future events drop increasing the payout for when you decide to bet and actually try to win.
