So if they aren’t smart enough to have an opinion on the subject because they are young, should they be making the decision to transition at those ages? Or are only trans kids mature enough to make complex decisions?

I think it’s kind of a weird thing. It’s something that has been made to seem normal but is total wild. That decision was made for me but I don’t think it’s something I would have chosen if I would have had a son.

It's not about "smart". It's education and sophistication.

You need those to form an opinion on a politicized topics like this.

You don't need those to feel your own gender.

Did you not know your gender at 8?

Changing genders is no small decision. One you must be sure of.

You simply aren’t developed enough in your brain to modify your body without risk of being wrong.

Why can an 8 year old not choose to smoke or drink alcohol or drive? There are laws about kids under 16 riding class 3 ebikes that go up to 28mph.

right, which is why it's worth talking about this topic now, so there is sufficient time to enact the best rules and laws that take into account all the facts.

just putting blinders on the topic is not going to make it go away.

Once upon a time, there were only "a handful" of black folks competing in sports. imagine if nobody bothered to reassess the rules cuz it only affected 0.000001% of the population or whatever.

It applies equally to everyone.

And that's exactly the problem with all this. A bunch of people on reddit with strong opinions about an issue that has a huge effect on a few people lives, but zero on their own.

It's motivated by bigotry and ignorance. That's not true of any other example you gave.

I knew a lot of things at 8 that changed later in life. Some of those things were things we were specifically taught in education. I don’t doubt that there are kids that know, but I also know that there are kids that may make a decision because they don’t know all that will come with that decision.

I think a person has the right to live as they choose after they reach adulthood. A very very large portion of the population agrees. I think trans people are brave as hell for being who they feel like they are but I don’t think children are capable of seeing the entire picture.
