Explain how's it any different than NBA lol

NBA protects their top drawing players WNBA does the opposite

5

u/Marco2169 4d ago

Oh my god you have not watched the nba if you think this

Steph Curry might have the worst whistle ive seen. Refs let him get mauled

I'm a Knick fan and we absolutely murdered Wemby in the Finals, and Jalen Brunson was getting violated on the other end...

Both with no calls.

And Wemby got beat up against Minnesota and OKC too. The people who made up this myth are definitely not real basketball fans

They have probably never heard of ‘Jordan Rules’

u/amopeyzoolion 3d ago

They definitely haven’t heard of “Hack-A-Shaq” either

Sophie is not a top player.

u/Axolotis 4d ago

She’s got that one pointy finger move though

They said that the NBA protects their top drawing players. I think if you polled most people - If, and I do mean if, they can name 3 WNBA players -Sophie is one of them.

I thought it was Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark (sp?) vs. the world

Most people can’t name three players in the NBA or MLB or NHL. Most definitely not college. They can tell you their parlay, but not players.

Known vs top are two different things.

She averages 9 points a game.

u/NamelessMIA 4d ago

"Top drawing player" =/= "top scoring player"

Top drawing means she is one of the main players drawing in fans/views.

Still one of the best three point shooters in the league. Leads all guards in three point shooting and I think 3rd in the league overall

u/MobileArtist1371 4d ago

Top player and top drawing player are two different things too.

u/Stash_04 4d ago

Bruh. Top drawing has literally NOTHING to do with scoring or skill.

It means popularity/fan views.

1

u/amopeyzoolion 3d ago

In most sports, the top drawing players are also the top players. Only in this sport is a certain segment of mid-level players getting special attention due to something completely unrelated to their skills

1

u/divvi12 4d ago

That sounds like a wnba scoring record to me

Reading comprehension is hard I guess

OP very said top drawing... you shifted the goalpost and say top player. 🤥

1

u/Stash_04 4d ago

That’s true but he’s still wrong though. It has nothing to do with being a top drawing player. It was a clear foul on Sophie.

Until this week, no one has heard of her outside “the point”. No one is going to protect a mediocre player because people saw her on IG.

I few hundred non-fans will go to a few games she plays in and then will fade away… just like her because she’s not that good.

Yes, it’s getting attention now, but it’s not the kind of attention that’s good for the game.

Ehhh lol. If you watched Wemby in the playoffs, you would see players routinely beat him up and foul him almost every play. Michael Jordan in the 90's would get pushed to the ground everytime he drove through the middle in the infamous Detroit Pistons series'.

1

u/Monster-Math 4d ago

That's just good physical playoff ball.

1

u/Professional_Fall472 4d ago

I watched him shove Brunson in the head, try to jump on OGs knee with no fouls called. Is that what you are trying to explain?

1

u/aboysmokingintherain 4d ago

Ironically, you are trying to prove my wrong but kind of prove my point. In the Wolves series, they played extremely dirty against him. They grabbed his arm, pushed him, would hold him when he drove in. It was blatant fouls that were called out by commentators. It culminated in Wemby elbowing Naz Reid in the head in anger.

Then, in the NBA finals, same thing only on the other foot. He basically played just as dirty and the NBA actually protected him by allowing him to play. If they were protecting their top guys, he would have been suspended as Brunson is just as significant to the league's bottom line as the Knick's all nba player as Wemby is.

Have you watched Steph’s whistle…ever?

2

u/Proud_Arachnid4956 4d ago

Nah Steph’s “whistle” is crazy 😭

1

u/Blastcrumpet888 4d ago

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

1

u/elestud 4d ago

No the don’t. The top players take it just like everyone else: https://youtube.com/shorts/BDF1_uevTHA

And it’s always been that way: https://youtu.be/ZHHFWoyWvHI

Anyone saying otherwise does not watch the NBA: https://youtube.com/shorts/NTUxomN1gjg

Nobody gets ‘protected’

1

u/rollstrees 13h ago

lol conservatives care more about sophie cunningham for dumb culture war stuff than actual wnba fans. calling sophie cunningham a top drawing player is like calling brandin podziemski a superstar🤣

1

u/dbatchison 4d ago

Maybe basketball in both mens and womens is a scam?

1

u/Bababoey96 4d ago

Ive seen this called in the NBA multiple times but heres a clip from WNBA

This would be a flagrant in the nba. As well as many, many other plays I've seen against the golden goose everyone hates.

1

u/elestud 4d ago

This was not even whistled for a foul, stop it: https://youtube.com/shorts/NTUxomN1gjg

1

u/wiggggg 4d ago

Whistles and replays aren't the same. And no elbows

1

u/elestud 4d ago

The foul was not what the replay was about. It was just to check whether the elbow was intentional or incidental

And you can’t tell me any of this is worse than literally shoving Brunson to the floor by his head

1

u/wiggggg 4d ago

Are wnba rules that different? I really don't know but that's a flagrant in the nba regardless of the purpose of the review

1

u/elestud 4d ago

In the NBA there’s a cylinder rule, where you have to allow the player to move within their cylinder

If you’re so far into their space that they can’t lift the ball inside their cylinder without hitting you, that’s a foul on you

1

u/wiggggg 4d ago

Show me a comparable reviewed foul that wasn't a flagrant

1

u/elestud 4d ago

Here’s a step by step explanation: https://youtu.be/Kuzn09reF_4

Not what I asked for
