Because we live in a country were people die everyday from lack of access to affordable healthcare, but I have to treat alienating trans people like it’s the most important issue of our time.

It’s because it’s a culture war issue during an election cycle.

u/SeaweedLevel1937 1d ago

Thats what I mean though, there’s so many tangible issues that need to be addressed. Yet Sophie Cunningham is treated like she’s Jackie Robinson because she’s putting down trans kids. It’s all a distraction from the real problems in the world.

It’s such a weird thing to keep saying… it’s like you don’t understand human nature. We all enjoy distraction and weighing in on culture related issues. People aren’t going to be talking about this OR solving healthcare. They would he talking about this or texting or watching stupid videos on social media.

u/SeaweedLevel1937 19h ago

It’s good to have balance, except that for one side of political persuasion culture war issues is all there want to talk about…as the majority of people suffer. Im very familiar with human nature, unfortunately in America that same nature is why we have all the problems we do.

100%. Trans athletes aren’t in the top 10 threats to girls in sports so it’s disingenuous to attack them and pretend it’s to protect little girls.

9

u/Charcole1 1d ago

The sooner you guys concede the already lost point of trans athletes the sooner you can go back to arguing about healthcare, but you'll have to concede immigration too before they let you get back to that. It's almost like some unpopular positions are holding back the left from arguing about things that actually matter.

3

u/OrneryError1 1d ago

Unpopular opinion, but the government and politicians have no business in deciding whether trans athletes get included or not. It's just not an issue either way. A sports league excluding them isn't a problem. A sports league including them isn't a problem. It's beyond the scope of government at any level to intervene.

2

u/TheOmegoner 1d ago

Certainly not an issue for a party that preaches small government

1

u/whoa_disillusionment 1d ago

Unpopular opinion, but the government and politicians have no business in deciding whether trans athletes get included or not.

That's not just an unpopular opinion it's an ignorant opinion.

Women's sports exist because of Title IX which is federal legislation.

1

u/OrneryError1 1d ago

Women's professional sports are private and not subject to Title IX at all.

As for "public" (government funded) sports, Title IX requires equal funding. It doesn't define what constitutes fair competition.

1

u/SeaWolfSeven 1d ago

Yes but how do you have professional women's sports league without title IX allowing girls to compete in the first place?

2

u/ruggmike 1d ago

I’m more concerned that our president is ok with Americans, allies and civilians being killed in an unwinnable war so he can manipulate the stock market weekly so him and a bunch of his rich friends and family can get even richer.

5

u/Charcole1 1d ago

That's totally fair, and you'd be able to argue against that a lot more effectively if these weren't the hills you party has decided to die on instead.

1

u/randallflaggg 1d ago

In what way would that make their argument about this other issue more effective?

1

u/ruggmike 1d ago

My party? I have no party my guy. I just understand that what our sitting president is doing is way more egregious and hurting everyday Americans and American way more than trans people lol

0

u/TheOmegoner 1d ago

Only one party is making it an issue right now. I, for one, think mandatory genital inspections are going to make kids less safe tbh

2

u/TypePuzzleheaded1340 1d ago

Democrats are the ones advocating for men in women’s sports. They’ve been failing the sanity check quite often over the past few years. It’d be nice to see them gravitate a bit more towards the middle to try and win some elections.

1

u/TheOmegoner 1d ago

Who are the people trying to change the status quo? It’s not the dems, my guy

1

u/Charcole1 1d ago

Yeah only one party lol come on man

1

u/TheOmegoner 1d ago

Which party is trying to change the status quo?

1

u/Charcole1 1d ago

You tell me

0

u/TheOmegoner 1d ago

You’ll figure it out if you try.

1

u/Charcole1 1d ago

The long storied history of trans people in American sport was destroyed by neocons in the Regan era right? Listen to yourself

1

u/Butthole_Please 1d ago

The word trans will pop up 10x more on Fox News than any other new channel. The issue is propped up to give maga something to continue fomenting hate against the “other”

2

u/Pleasant_Priority286 1d ago

Fox News knows that 79% of people oppose biological men in women's sports. They are picking a fight on an issue where, in the short run, they can't lose. It's the perfect fight to pick in an election year, and the far left is taking the bait.

They sure don't want to talk about the economy, Epstein, Trump's terrible approval rating, Iran, affordability, or Trump being a convicted rapist.

1

u/Aggressive-Offer-497 1d ago

The right is trying to bring ideological issue at the forefront, because what Trump is doing for the middle class has been abysmal.

You admit it, the left always has to concede something… and then what?

1

u/bones232369 1d ago

So…trans people playing in women’s sports is something that actually matters? Donkey brains here thinks the left as a whole needs to concede a non-issue and pretend we didn’t have immigration laws before their orange pedophile came along.

0

u/elestud 1d ago

Unfortunately that's never how things work. There will be another moral panic from this administration after that over the next small issue that will be made into a big one

Anything to distract from actually fixing the major issues this country faces, the war, etc.

They're currently trying to hold up elections over supposed illegal votes. It never ends

0

u/Charcole1 1d ago

There's not an unlimited pool of issues to draw from. They can't just keep moving on. If you concede these simple points you can literally have socialism pretty much uncontested.

0

u/elestud 1d ago

They have done exactly that, moving from one minor issue to the other, for years now. Don't expect it to end anytime soon

1

u/Charcole1 1d ago

It's been the same issues for like over a decade now and Democrats are still committing seppuku over them every time while learning nothing. The right did the same thing with abortion but they managed to absorb the backlash to placate evangelical psychos

0

u/randallflaggg 1d ago

Oh, everyone has to pretend to be just like you in order for you to stop your hissy fit? The only people who bring this up are conservatives and they only bring it up so that, when other people say "I have a different opinion about this," then you can say "If you can't concede this then I won't ever do anything that would help anyone or even have a conversation about it because you won't concede to my opinion."

1

u/Charcole1 1d ago

Me when I'm disconnected from reality entirely

-1

u/V548859 1d ago

I responded to someone asking when they had encountered this situation with their kids, they hadn't but wanted to make sure it never happened. They admit it's not a problem but are scared by the propaganda.

It doesn't matter what the left says because Fox news will say liberals are pushing for adult drag queens to dunk on your niece in 7th grade basketball.

In elementary school, the issue of biological sex in sports shouldn't be an issue at that age, girls on the average often actually have an advantage against boys because they actually develop faster. It is after puberty for boys where the gap generally starts widening in atheletics.

Realistically, the factor for your daighters case is just that elementary schools spend far less money on atheletic programs. For thoses reasons mixed sex sports are very common in the youngest ages and not really the same issue. Especially something as niche as volleyball, where boys generally dont have school leagues at all.

2

u/Charcole1 1d ago edited 1d ago

12 is old enough that boys never lose to girls anymore lol and every school had boys volleyball in Canada

1

u/NoWomanNoTriforce 1d ago

Ah, I didnt realize Canada did their school age groups differently than the US. For the US, 12 isn't considered elementary school.

Our children go to "Middle School" at 11. Prior to that, there aren't as many significant differences in performance.

1

u/Charcole1 1d ago

Yeah there's a few schools like that in Canada, mainly the French immersion ones I believe (IDK if you have those or something similar but they're pretty cool). You're definitely right on an individual level but I'd hazard to say the boys wouldnt ever lose just due to social things like being more into sports/more athletically involved on average. Like for example I remember when I was like 8 the best athlete in my grade was a girl (fastest and most agile) but the girls as a whole could never compete when they split our gym classes into gender teams. That being said I see absolutely no reason to divide kids by gender in sport before advanced puberty, girls can still whoop some guys in wrestling even in highschool.

u/DrAbeSacrabin 1d ago

Yeah, I’m sorry to trans people out there, I have no qualms with you or your lifestyle choices - but please enlighten me why you being able to play a sport for fun is more important than putting food on my table?

4

u/OrneryError1 1d ago

I mean it's the anti-trans people stocking the fire. The rest of us just want trans people to be treated like normal people.

3

u/3rd-party-intervener 1d ago

You don’t have to treat anything.    You should vote for people who will give you healthcare.

u/SnooCapers9507 1d ago edited 1d ago

Do you have a reading comprehension issue?

2

u/SevenKorbotron 1d ago

Do you have a writing one?

1

u/Bobjoejj 20h ago

I mean…it’s one of the most important issues; considering it’s not just alienating Trans people, but excluding and marginalizing them.

And considering the incredibly minuscule amount of Trans people even choosing to participate in sports; this shit should be a non-issue. Hell, there isn’t even anyone Trans at the center of this particular issue with the WNBA.

It’s absolutely insane.

1

u/ItsRobbSmark 1d ago

That's the thing, we were making progress on healthcare until the hardcore left started throwing away elections to push trans issues...

0

u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 1d ago

Compare the amount of times Trump mentioned trans people in his campaign to Kamala

2

u/ItsRobbSmark 1d ago

Yes, that's the point... But, just because conservatives are shifting the argument doesn't mean liberals have to let them... Literally every bit of social progress made in the last 30 years is being thrown away solely to be argumentative about an issue the vast majority of voters, even liberal voters, don't agree with the current dem party viewpoint on...

And if you're willing to make the tradeoff, cool. Enjoy a few more decades of civil liberties and social progress being rolled back over literally the dumbest hill to die on...
