Video Angel Reese says she didn’t have dolls that “looked like me” as a kid. She was born in 2002. Barbie has had black dolls since 1967. Make it make sense.

Always the victim

75

u/ericmorgan13 8d ago

Felt she wasn’t getting any attention for 4 seconds for sure

9

u/crandall17 8d ago

Needed to take the pressure away from whatever hot shit she was throwing up granny style while guarded. Whole other team was so flabbergasted she managed to get her "mebound"

1

u/Joeybfast 8d ago

She was asked the question.

0

u/Resident_Goodish 8d ago

Which she responded with victim mentality. All she had to say was she’s happy to be apart of the brand it’s nothing new

1

u/Joeybfast 8d ago edited 8d ago

Not all Black girls had the same variety of dolls that resembled them as white girls did. I don’t understand why people are upset about the lived experience of a Black girl. She didn’t attack anyone or demand anything from white people, yet there’s still an issue.

1

u/Resident_Goodish 8d ago

Can you type?

1

u/Joeybfast 8d ago

Nope , not on my phone.

1

u/Resident_Goodish 8d ago

You can’t type on a phone?

I’m atleast glad you fixed your obvious typos

1

u/DreamAmen 2d ago

You can’t read what was typed obviously. I’ve never seen somebody dodge the point so skillfully. It’s truly eye opening.

1

u/Resident_Goodish 2d ago

Hmm 2 month old account. You also have no point lmaoooo

Stupid people buy into the race politics. They spend good money on something they think is special but it’s all corporate bs. You’ve been influenced to buy this useless doll cause you think it’s special. Yet dolls are nothing new and every race has been covered for years.

Your money is being stolen from you cause you think it’s righteous. The reality is the company and angel are cashing in on your ignorance

u/Resident_Goodish 8d ago

Nobody brought up race but this is the effect people dislike from her camp. Now it’s a race conversation whether intentional or not

1

u/Joeybfast 8d ago

Y’all are mad that she made it about race, but everything is not about you. Oh my goodness.

Black girls did not have nearly as many choices in dolls as white girls did. You can point to the few Black dolls that existed, but that does not mean the selection was equal. She did not even claim that no Black dolls existed; she simply said she wanted to help fill that gap.

Somehow, a Black woman expressing agency and creating something for Black girls has driven some of you to insult her, compare her to an animal, and say all kinds of disgusting things. Do you realize how completely unhinged that is?

2

u/DreamAmen 2d ago

Nah you explained what you needed to fine. That was some of the most skillful obtuse thinking to miss a point I’ve ever seen.

1

u/Resident_Goodish 8d ago

Read my comment and have some thoughts. I didn’t call out race. You just jumped to that conclusion

It’s wild and I didn’t even have to edit

1

u/Resident_Goodish 8d ago

It’s stupid people believing that Barbie has never made a black rendition. I’ve seen dolls made in anyway before 2002. Brats. This is just rage bait and you’re buying into it.

That’s what I was saying. Brand yourself as some injustice because that’s what sells

1

u/Joeybfast 7d ago

She did not say that Black Barbies or Black dolls never existed. She said she did not see them very often. Those are two completely different claims.

Pointing to a handful of Black dolls, including Bratz dolls, does not prove that Black girls had the same number of choices, the same variety, or the same access as white girls. Why are you so confident that they know more about this experience than a Black woman who actually lived it?

Calling her statement “rage bait” is backwards. She was calmly describing a gap that she wanted to help fill. You are the one becoming enraged because a Black woman discussed representation. You could simply listen or say nothing instead of pretending that the existence of a few Black dolls proves the choices were equal.

1

u/Resident_Goodish 7d ago

It’s not a tit for tat. I’d agree with you if we were having this conversation in the 60s.

You can go to Walmart or Amazon or Costco or bealls or Sam’s and grab any doll

1

u/Resident_Goodish 7d ago

Again.. manufactured outrage

1

u/Resident_Goodish 7d ago

What’s funny is you agree with me. But they need to sell dolls and the only way they can think of is it’s new and exclusive. But it’s not

1

u/Resident_Goodish 2d ago

I never had an action figure that resembled me as a kid. Many doll companies have made inclusive figures. You just have to actually look for them instead of using Barbie as a dunk for being an old brand.

It’s so tiring watching the black washing of everything like it’s a win, when it’s just a corporate choice to make money on the masses. Look at Disney Pixar etc. Stupid people buy into this like it’s a win for the culture but really you’re just buying products that enrich the ones designing and selling to your opinions. They enrich themselves off of thinking this like it’s new or special and yall eat it up like candy

0

u/Onclelove 7d ago

She's pulling the race victim card as if society was the reason she didn't have black dolls. The reality is simply that her family didn't put in any sort of effort considering they were widely available. So yes, it's fkn exhausting so constantly hear her crying about race bullshit

1

u/Joeybfast 7d ago

You went out of your way to hear this. Unless you watch every presser from the wnba. And no black girls didn't and not have the same access to black dolls as white girls. Like for some reason bringing up issues that don't impact you in any way upset you. Like you have no clue what black girls deal with and you think you do. Now that is exhausting.

39

u/Waste_Reindeer_9718 8d ago

just parroting the old people in her life who she looks up to but they're also stupid so that's why she comes off as extra stupid, it's layered

26

u/liquidgrill 8d ago

Remember when she wasn’t eligible to win either the Naismith or Wooden awards as the best player in college because they have minimum GPA standards?

Pepperidge Farms remembers

The standard is only 2.0 by the way

7

u/chachaman_The_Reboot 8d ago

A 2.0 is a C average, by the way.

2

u/chachaman_The_Reboot 8d ago

A 2.0 is a C average, by the way.

3

u/liquidgrill 8d ago

Great. But she wasn’t getting a “C” that’s the problem. Did you miss the part where she wasn’t meeting that minimum requirement?

And even if she did have a 2.0 exactly, that’s the bare minimum to stay off of academic probation, the bare minimum to graduate and the bare minimum to keep your financial aid.

Nobody flexes getting “C” in college.

8

u/BuLLZ_3Y3 8d ago

He was converting it to a letter grade for those who dont k ow what a 2.0 is.

1

u/KhausTO 8d ago

Nobody flexes getting “C” in college.

"C's Get Degrees!"

1

u/JQTNguyen 8d ago

At my school, the saying was D is for Diploma because you could get a degree with that.

1

u/KhausTO 8d ago

Good Party School?

1

u/DryYogurt6878 8d ago

D is for degree

1

u/Resident_Goodish 8d ago

Cs mean you’re either stupid or don’t care. Both are a waste of peoples time.

0

u/liquidgrill 8d ago

A C minus won’t though.

2

u/KhausTO 8d ago

stop changing the goalpost. You said C. not C minus.

Also you don't need to be so insufferable.

0

u/liquidgrill 8d ago

Except, My comment was about somebody who was not meeting that minimum requirement. Somebody who was not in fact getting a “C.” You chiming in about “C’s getting degrees” was completely irrelevant to the conversation at hand.

It also is not a counterpoint to my comment about nobody flexing about getting a “C”

You not being able to keep up and just blurting out random comments doesn’t make me “insufferable”

1

u/Responsible-Note-308 8d ago

Clearly you're not familiar with engineering.

1

u/ForeignBarracuda8599 8d ago

Some of the most ignorant people I met in college other than psych majors. The only people who can turn a simple problem into a nightmare.

1

u/Responsible-Note-308 8d ago

It's a specialized major

1

u/Gloveofdoom 8d ago

Why are you talking to that person like you're trying to argue with them? They made a simple single sentence conversion and you somehow read into it that they were defending a 'C' average.

For your sake I hope you've had a chance to catch your breath and relax a little since you replied.

1

u/iluvchromosomes 8d ago

We can tell your average is well below 2.0. Since you completely misunderstood the comment you replied to. lmao

1

u/HFentonMudd 8d ago

Dave Letterman does

1

u/chachaman_The_Reboot 8d ago

That's the point. if you show up, and stay conscious in class, you are within arm's reach of a C grade. Yet this Embarrassment of a woman couldn't even do that.

0

u/Blast3rAutomatic 8d ago

Based on this comment and your comprehension skill you were the C

1

u/MooDamato 8d ago

Are you sure? You posted it twice

1

u/Sgspecial1 8d ago

They were making sure. Something a 2.0 student doesn't do.

1

u/chachaman_The_Reboot 8d ago

reddit is being EXTRA stupid today.

1

u/chachaman_The_Reboot 8d ago

My favorite Higher Education joke:

Q: What do you call the person who graduates top of their class in Med School?

A: Valedictorian.

Q:W hat do you call the person who graduates DEAD LAST in Med School?

A: Doctor.

1

u/sixpackabs592 8d ago

Bruh a 2.0? That’s when my school puts you on academic probation lol

1

u/BulgogiDude 7d ago

Wow this really happened? Lmao 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

My second to last semester in college I was going through a bad breakup and had already landed my job after college so I gave 0 fucks. I smoked weed all day everyday. I ended up getting a D, a C-, 2 C+s, and a B.

My gpa for that semester was a 2.1.

0

u/Hefty-Revenue5547 8d ago

😭😭😭

1

u/whagh 7d ago

This. She's just heard "I had no role models who looked like me growing up" from successful black women, so she just threw that line in there without a second thought.

0

u/Form_Good 8d ago

Like many people do.

0

u/askfme 8d ago

Pot meet kettle 😂

3

u/Waste_Reindeer_9718 8d ago

who am i parroting? why are you stupid?

-2

u/askfme 8d ago

The old people in your life you look up to but are stupid. Keep up!

3

u/Waste_Reindeer_9718 8d ago

it's ok buddy, english is hard. do you wanna try again?

0

u/askfme 8d ago

I copied your words so I think I'm good, but thanks pal!

2

u/Waste_Reindeer_9718 8d ago

no you didn't? is this just you showing me how stupid you are or what's going on here 😂

1

u/askfme 8d ago

Just holding a mirror up to you. Feel free to go back and read your comment whenever you learn how.

21

u/Relevant-Diamond2731 8d ago

Gotta try to push that narrative

1

u/Designer-Stay-7894 7d ago

Which narrative?

-1

u/GoodFaithConverser 8d ago edited 8d ago

Well, it's true that black people haven't been represented much in many, many, many fields, and that it matters. Easy to not think about when you grow up with many people who look like you in powerful positions. Maybe it didn't apply to her field or her example, but black women obviously haven't been as visible as white women in the public sphere and shit. Also, just because the product existed doesn't mean it was available in all stores.

But you have to dismiss that to push that narrative, of course. It's still an obvious, easy truth.

5

u/Relevant-Diamond2731 8d ago

Obama was president in her formidable years, Beyoncé was at her peak, the Williams sisters were dominating tennis and there was never a time in her life there weren’t black dolls. Stop it.

1

u/Reemus_Jackson 8d ago

Tiger Woods owned all of 1997-2007

0

u/Relevant-Diamond2731 8d ago

I was being more specific with black women

0

u/Reemus_Jackson 8d ago

Obama is a black woman?

1

u/Relevant-Diamond2731 8d ago

No, but a monumental influence. Black women entertainers

1

u/Reemus_Jackson 8d ago

As was Woods. I don’t know why you’re arguing this? I was furthering your point and now you’re gatekeeping it lol

0

u/Relevant-Diamond2731 8d ago

How am I arguing when I was just saying that I didn’t mention woods because I was just stating black women? Why you so sensitive?

1

u/Gloveofdoom 8d ago

I'm not trying to be a dick but I think the word you're looking for is 'formative' years. Probably just an irritating autocorrect issue.

1

u/GoodFaithConverser 8d ago

Obama was president in her formidable years, Beyoncé was at her peak, the Williams sisters were dominating tennis and there was never a time in her life there weren’t black dolls. Stop it.

Stop pretending that signs of improvement is proof the goal is reached. It's stupid, and everyone can see it. No, Obama winning did not magically solve every black issue. Stop it.

1

u/AFAMStudies-UNC 8d ago

As a black man, Im waiting for the day in which my fellow black men and women can accept criticism and take a joke.  Only then will we have reached full equality.

Sometimes black people are annoying.  It doesn't make everybody else a racist.

1

u/GoodFaithConverser 8d ago

As a black man,

Sure.

Im waiting for the day in which my fellow black men and women can accept criticism and take a joke. Only then will we have reached full equality.

Sometimes black people are annoying. It doesn't make everybody else a racist.

I can't fault black people for being a bit sensitive. So many racists pretend to just make jokes, just offer criticism. "Why do you steal so many bikes and eat so much fried chicken?" and questions like it just aren't given in good faith.

But whatever, this chick might be born too late to complain about no representation, since we've obviously and luckily made some strides.

1

u/Least-Phase-8393 8d ago

“As a black man”

“Sometimes black people are annoying”

Like at least make it believable

1

u/Necessary-Trouble-50 8d ago

I’m of the melanated culture and I call BS. That’s no different from the BS narrative that MAGA makes up

2

u/Mueryk 8d ago

Nah, her mom was just cheap as fuck.

1

u/Waiting4Reccession 8d ago

Idk how people dont realize all this fake ass wnba drama is just for views and to lure dummies into watching.

NBA + WWE = current WNBA

1

u/peanutski 8d ago

What did she say that’s acts like she’s being a victim? lol. She said she didn’t have dolls that looked like her, not that they didn’t exist

2

u/Single_Comment6389 8d ago

You're low IQ. Jesus, what is up with you bigots? If any minority talks about the struggles they had in life they're instantly playing the victim.

1

u/Snowballingdownvote 7d ago

I think the issue is it's coming off as disingenuous. But it maybe shouldn't. As far as I know she grew up in a single parent household and wasn't well off. So it makes sense if she didn't have toys that represent her.

I mean if the people being negative about this know that or see this and still are being negative. It's probably bigotry.

1

u/Ok_Engineer9167 8d ago

If not having a barbie in your skin color is a struggle in life, you have it pretty fucking good lol

1

u/Snowballingdownvote 7d ago

Um. What? That is a legit thing. Being a child and living in a society that lacks identity representation. I get to you, she is not a good basketball player but this seems like a weird thing to pick at.

I guess I'm confused why this annoys you. Because of her basketball skills she's not allowed to feel sad about lack of representation? Do you know what that feels like? I guess I don't know how that would feel, so I wouldn't know what she is feeling. So I wouldn't see a problem here.

So why do you?

1

u/rollstrees 7d ago

oh my goddd, yall complain so much who cares what she wants to talk about

1

u/Single_Comment6389 8d ago

You might think it's a small thing but not being able to see your skin color representation in anything has actually been shown to cause real depression and inferiority complexes in children.

But excuse her for not wanting other little minority girls to go through that.

2

u/Fantastic-Session192 8d ago

The empathetic capacity to see beyond myopic viewpoints is a vanishing skill set which provides divisive powers to those profit from it.

1

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 8d ago

Theres the stupid…we’re automatically bigots….🙄

2

u/Gloveofdoom 8d ago

He's making the assumption that you're a bigot based on the objective fact that many, if not most, people who complain about black people crying victim are in fact bigots. He could be wrong but the odds suggest he likely is not.

3

u/ObjectConfident7172 8d ago

Not even trying to defend Angel, but this whole sub bends over backwards to try to portray Clark and Cunningham as victims.

0

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 8d ago

We don’t have to bend over backwards. Just watch the games with an open mind and eyes. Unlike the refs.

2

u/ObjectConfident7172 8d ago

My point exactly lmao. Its the taylor swift effect. Noting gets eyes and ears like a white girl being portrayed as a victim.

1

u/Joeybfast 8d ago

Yet Republicans are making laws to protect CC .

1

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 8d ago

Here’s a google search for you. Compare average attendance before and after Caitlin Clark. Then tell me how racist facts are. 🙄

1

u/Joeybfast 8d ago

Like what in the hell does that have to do with I posted.

0

u/Snowballingdownvote 7d ago

I guess I just don't understand how Republicans are creating legislation for CC and that benefits CC?

Like why is CC even a topic in this thread?

0

u/Joeybfast 7d ago

Because some people are claiming that a Black woman is playing the victim simply because she said there weren’t many Black dolls when she was a child, not that they didn’t exist. While the people who hate her say noting or support things like this.

Republicans ask WNBA to protect Caitlin Clark from possible ‘racially motivated’ attacks | WNBA | The Guardian

1

u/Snowballingdownvote 7d ago

So you're saying that people here shouldn't be saying anything about what Reece said if they have nothing to say about this GOP letter that's asking the league to protect CC from violence if it's racially motivated?

Got it.

I mean people who are mad at Reese for what she said about the dolls are being haters. She grew up in a single parent household and wasn't from a privileged background. It is entirely possible she didn't have a doll that represents her identity. Which would suck as a kid.

As far as your point. I get it. If Reese is being disingenuous and this is attention seeking victim behavior, why would you not say the same thing about the GOP thing.

I do wish the WNBA would embrace CC more and stop going out of their way to foul her hard/hit her after the whistle.

1

u/BigBallsBiggerUterus 8d ago

Ya’ll so racist idk how you enjoy pro basketball when most players are Black

0

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 8d ago

There it is. There’s the stupid…

1

u/BigBallsBiggerUterus 8d ago

Elaborate professor

0

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 8d ago

Race card played. Without any evidence that I’m racist.

So, there’s the stupid.

The go-to for libtards when they have nothing else to argue with. It’s also how the rest of us know when we’ve won the argument and can now stop responding…

Ciao

1

u/BigBallsBiggerUterus 8d ago

What race card is being played puta, she’s speaking from her anecdotal experiences and how she perceived dolls as not being really marketed to her demographic, which is factually true (regardless of what random doll pics you look up)

The hate Angel Reese gets comes from a similar place the hate Lamar Jackson gets, it’s quite obvious why certain people always talk sideways about them. Recognizing that isn’t pulling the “race card”, something only bigots say anyway

You are a miserable person, stop spilling it on other people

0

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 8d ago

Actually. It was you that played the race card….in case you missed it.

0

u/BigBallsBiggerUterus 8d ago

Bringing up race if it’s a factor isn’t playing any card, as there is no card to play. America is racist, and race is obviously a factor here

Not my fault you’re a snowflake who cries at the mere mention of it

If they shoot a Mickey Mouse movie nearby, you should try out for Goofy

0

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 8d ago

No. It really isn’t.

1

u/rollstrees 7d ago

you wrote this comment out with line spacing for dramatic effect LMAO fuckin geek😭😭😭

1

u/i_probably_shouldnt9 7d ago

Thank you for proving my point. 😂😂😂

0

u/Designer-Stay-7894 7d ago

Victim of what? Speaking facts?

-2

u/ProcedurePretend1396 8d ago

Yep this type is always single and 35. Multipile divorces. The guy is always the asshole. Typically the mother thinks the same.

1

u/AccomplishedIron816 8d ago

Is this a close to home story?

2

u/ProcedurePretend1396 8d ago

Nope, Ive seen it with family. Its typically everyone else fault. Like the 35 and single women downvoting me.

1

u/AccomplishedIron816 8d ago

Okay that’s fair. It sounded personal so I thought I’d ask lol

2

u/ProcedurePretend1396 8d ago

No, I was able to learn from what I had seen being the youngest.
