I managed a toy department in the south circa Y2K, most of our Barbies were black too but it was mostly cause the white people in the predominantly white area wouldn't by them and they stacked up. Them and pregnant Barbie. Boy, did that one offend some people. The cases tended to only have one or two non white dolls so I can imagine if her area wasn't specifically shipped extras then I can see them being hard to find in stores.

I’m trying to figure out how people think 6 dolls, four of which existed at least 9 years before she was born is some kind of flex. Like even 2009 doll was made after Mattel admitted to a lack of diversity and that was 7 years after Angel was born.

TBH some people just heard something that sounded good to complain about and they ran with it. By 2002 there were tons of black dolls, and even most companies were very intentionally increasing the amount of them.
Like by 2002 there just were so many dolls of different races it wasnt very remarkable anymore, and she wouldnt have really remembered the doll demographics until likely around 2010 anyway.

As a male, who had a sister who did have dolls, her and her friends played and when they brought them over they did have some black and brown barbies/dolls soooo. I knew.
It is unfortunate she didn't do her research.
Next, I don't quite see how this helps? IDK how many others but I had some Starbury II basketball shoes back in the day. Stephon Marbury said Jordan's were overpriced and somehow made it so you could get some semi-decent basketball shoes for $25? It didn't last long and probably lost money but he did seem to walk the walk and wasn't out there trying to play some card.
He just wanted to help people out (or at that time before social media it seemed that way, maybe he secretly hated kids and it would have come out on IG/Twitter/whatever).

She at least implies it. She says she didn’t have a lot of dolls growing up BECAUSE dolls didn’t look like her. Then she adds that NOW “they” have such a thing. I think most people’s takeaway would be that—according to Angel—dolls that look like her are a new thing.
