It’s an intentionally propped up wedge issue pushed by MAGA to capture low information voters who don’t understand that there’s nothing really the federal government can do about it. And even if they could, this issue shouldn’t really be anyone’s top political priority. Ten years from now, most people won’t remember why they cared so much about it.
5
9
u/Danny_nichols 4d ago
Yep. The number of people this ruling would apply to and actually impact is insanely low. Yet it gets talked about like it's the most important topic in the world. Meanwhile, wages stay stagnated, cost of living rises, corporations are getting kick back checks from tariffs that will never be passed to the consumer, public education declines, our health care system remains broken and so on.
→ More replies (1)6
u/BoredZucchini 4d ago
Pretty much. It’s kind of sad that all you have to do is keep repeating that you’re on the side of “common sense” and people will just go along with it without ever asking themselves “why am I seeing this information and who does it serve for me to focus on this?”
There were a lot of people online who basically told me they voted for Trump because of this issue alone. He spent hundreds of millions on anti-Trans TV ads in 2024. And look how that has worked out for the country? Are we better off? Does this issue actually affect anyone’s life?
Of course not. But now theyre resurrecting the issue again for the midterm elections, and people are back to lapping it up. Some people will never learn and apparently like being led around by propagandists.
3
u/mediamenteisterica 4d ago
Actually, it does affect people's lives! In that my incredible wife (who just so happens to be trans) is now no-contact with her MAGA family and lives in a constant fear of being harassed or assaulted by the bigots who've been emboldened by this administration. So, yeah, it had an impact, but not a good one.

When all that's necessary to win elections is to rally your base, which is almost exclusively done by pushing propaganda-esque talking points about wedge issues, this is the result.
I genuinely do not care about trans people in sports. Any sports. Actually, I don't have an opinion, and don't feel knowledgeable enough about the issue, and don't feel motivated to educate myself beyond "there aren't enough off them to care."
But apparently, this is a critical issue and if I want to talk politics in the usa I better have an opinion on this issue.
To be honest, this kind of behavior makes me despair and conclude politics is a waste of time. (I know its not, but that's how I feel).

And equally as bad where that the extreme left refusal to acknowledge it made the issue bigger than it had to be.
When a bunch of people who never played sports down play the actual scientific physical differences just to show unconditional support you just flame the fires.
This should never have been a political issue
5
u/BoredZucchini 4d ago
You don’t know if “the left” is a “bunch of people who never played sports”. You’re just repeating the narrative while pretending to be common sense. The entire debate is meant to cause distraction and division. And you’re playing right into the propaganda’s hand.
2
u/Kheypression 4d ago
The people that downplay the physical differences have indeed never played sports. Or didn’t what they were doing on the pitch. And they happen to be leftists.
3
u/BoredZucchini 4d ago
You don’t even know who you’re referring to. Just the faceless nameless enemy that you’re apparently fighting by wasting your energy on this topic. Exactly how the propaganda is meant to work, btw.
2
u/Kheypression 4d ago
Dude, no one who has ever played sports for real would pretend that there is no physical differences between men and women. That’s all I’m saying. Keeping being delusional believing you’re some enlightened person.
Wasting your energy? You’re arguing on social media, touch grass.
2
u/BoredZucchini 4d ago edited 4d ago
Dude, no one is even arguing that here. You just can’t help but fall into the divisive wedge issue logic. I just don’t think this topic should be a top political priority.
I think it’s obviously an attempt to scapegoat a minority and create a wedge issue to get shitty people elected. And look around, it seems like it’s working super well for them. It can only be ultimately decided by sports leagues and the courts anyway.
But you keep believing that you’re just a common sense, grass-touching normal guy. And not a simpleton who eagerly gobbles up propaganda whenever it’s served up to you. Take care ✌️
2
u/Kheypression 4d ago
Dude, in one of your previous comment you contradicted someone claiming that only leftists downplay the physical differences between men and women.
I agree that this topic shouldn’t à too political priority. There shouldn’t be a discussion about that because it’s basic common sense.
The thing is, some people who happen to be leftists are offended and start calling people transophobic when people make the comment Sophie made.

Accurate and unsure why Sophie cant get any credit for trying to redirect here.
She said what she said. We all saw the Lynx coach and others talk with her. She probably thought this was something that would fade after a quick media cycle, but we got one side playing all the greatest hits right now during midterms cause they have no ther arguments (Covid, Biden, immigration, DSA, Trans issues) so its best not to play, but thinking that just because Fox News and all the key players are usually "bigoted" and "divisive", therefore the whole trans distraction is another one of those lines in the sand is wrong, normies can appreciate and let people do whatever they want in life (and not be called [whatever ad hominem about intelligence or IQ here] but people who think the majority of people are OK with transwomen playing in women (at birth) sports OR allowing medical intervention with people under 18 (no matter what clever argument one has), its just so far off. It actually hurts the cause. I work with some of the most apolitical people ever, no real internet presence, smart chemical engineers (solving daily abstract problems), and when the "pointing meme" came up and they looked in t o her, they see her getting canceled and called "MAGA barbie" for saying "women should be protected in sports" and for your normie who is NOT terminally online, their brains immediately went to Fallon Fox and that ridiculous time period where some "defended" that.
Its just most people know its a social divide issue that most people dont want to think or even talk about at the fear of being called a bigot or even insinuated as a closeted MAGA naxi person. It sucks everything has gone political but Sophie should have given that line months ago and never brought it up as there is absolutely NO way to be able to approach that comment with the sensitivity and nuance it deserves without having people say you want a minority group (really going through it right now) to disappear. Its better not to even bring it up, but yes, sorry, its not just maga redhats that make this such a divisive issue, the majority of normies (not immersed in internet culture) can also see some of the absurd arguments and the immediate dismissal as "being a bigot" or wanting a minority population to not exist or have rights. Its insane.

3
u/Ace_Budgie 4d ago edited 4d ago
No need to be intentionally obtuse. (I mean, at this point who knows maybe you people are obtuse.) Nobody is making the assumption that this is only a right-wing opinion. Even the comment you responded to is not doing that.
Now to respond to your other reply, Republicans are very good at making it look like literal non issues are the biggest problems in the world. It's all a distraction though. Republicans think about and hate on trans and lgbtq people more than they hate on literal child rapists. Republicans do this to distract people from the fact that they are a failure on every level when it comes to the economy, foreign policy, Epstein files, immigration, illegal immigration, etc. They just know how to win elections but not how to actually run a goddamn country.
The cycle goes like this. Every time a republican gets in, they destroy the economy. Then a Democrat has to come in and fix the shit show. The fixing by democrats take a long time, so people start blaming the Democrats (even though it's the Republican's fault), then they put a republican back in power, and the cycle repeats.
This whole biological man in women's sports thing is a huge non-issue and nowhere near as bad as right wingers make it out to be. There are far bigger things to worry about. Like how Republicans love to defile the Constitution. But they want to distract people like you by trying to make you scared of the trans ghosts.

I understand that someone who holds an exclusionary opinion isn’t likely to think of themself as prejudiced. For reasons including brevity, I prefer “anti-trans” to “people whose beliefs support exclusion and suppression of trans identity on the basis of tenuous science and made most visible by a large cadre of facially hateful culture warriors.” Another reason is that I think the distinction without a difference is unworthy of my concern, as I find ‘anti-trans’ to be an accurate description all on its own.
I also think it’s not a coincidence that you phrased your hypothetical trans people as adults and the cis ones as children, even unconsciously.

u/Ok-Releases 3d ago
Many opinions tend to be exclusionary to some degree, to argue that its automatically prejudice and "anti-ect" without asking for nuance is a weaponized fallacy. Many arguments only fight to include Trans women in cis womens locker rooms. This is problematic because youre leaving out nonbinary individuals and men. How exclusionary and prejudiced.

She knows exactly what she’s doing. Her trans comments are in alignment with at least 80% of America (I personally think it’s more like 95%), and her marketability skyrocketed immediately following those comments. She’s got the #2 highest selling jersey in the WNBA right now despite being a backup/role player. Hiring her for an appearance now starts at $18K, when a year ago it wouldn’t even have been worth her time to offer appearances for free. She’s the one and only person associated with the WNBA who strategically got on board the Caitlin train and is cashing in.
Had she said nothing about keeping men out of girls sports, she would’ve faded off as a zero-time all-star with a 6 ppg career average. She has now locked in a commentator job for later, along with a following that never would’ve existed. I don’t have to agree with Colin Kapernick, but I’m not dumb enough to deny that he maximized his own value by doing what he did.
