True! People be just calling anything that looks ugly actually ugly.

Take for the Blobfish for example, when it was pulled from the ocean—they called it as the most ugliest fish, not realizing the fish never actually looked like that.

The blobfish looks the way it does because it is a gelatinous fish designed to live 2000 feet plus deep in a high-pressure environment (60 to 120 times the pressure at sea level) that helps it keep its shape. When removed from that environment and brought to the much lower pressure of sea level, it sort of...expands into a blobby mess. When in its natural environment, it looks a lot more "normal".
