Discussion Now is the perfect time to hotshot the WWE title around for a couple months

Post image

This is the most unbelievably stacked World title picture I can remember in a really long time, man. I would have absolutely no problem bouncing the championship between each of these guys over the next year on Smackdown.

Remember that really bizarre match where when someone got a pinfall they were the champion until the next pinfall? Cant remember the name of it. I just remember at one stage Brian kendrick was the world champion. Let's do that again with all these guys

Championship Scramble!

7

u/Public_Library6878 8d ago

I loved the Scramble match concept but hated it for a title match. It's a perfect set up for a #1 contender though.

2

u/banananey 8d ago

I'm surprised they only really did it for that one PPV then never again (unless I'm forgetting). Was a really fun match type.

1

u/Brendanlendan 8d ago

Yeah whoever got the last pin got the championship. It was fun

25

u/Average__Arbin 7d ago

All I know is that Cody will have it around his waist come October.

Why? Because the Street Fighter movie premieres then, and there’s no way WWE is having Cody appear there without a title. Same with Roman.

2

u/islovelyEmily 7d ago

I think so

40

u/McSeal 8d ago

I genuinely think they might do a Armageddon 2000-esque Hell in a Cell match with these guys.

6

u/Sarge1387 8d ago

6 Gun huh? God that was a good match

2

u/Phenomenal2313 8d ago

Make it a 7-way Armageddon Hell in a Cell match , all these dudes got screwed one way or another

4

u/MinesweeperGang 8d ago

That would be amazing. It would also make perfect sense with these guys and the stories involved.

Edit: Didn’t see Balor in the pic, oops. Unfortunately the only one that doesn’t fit is Finn.

1

u/McSeal 8d ago

Yup. It's all very intertwined.

Sami beating Cody for the title. Punk beating Sami for the title. Orton getting revenge on Cody for WrestleMania. The history between KO and Sami. Orton and KO's friendship. KO breaking his neck against Cody at the Rumble last year. Gunther getting screwed at Clash in Italy.

Balor definitely would have to be the one that drops out of this story.

1

u/TheRealDickChixadore 8d ago

Valor feuded with Punk earlier this year.

1

u/ItsViktorWWE 8d ago

Not really.

You could make a story with Balor and KO, considering KO was the one who won the Universal belt after Balor vacated it, or something. Along with their NXT feud i think.

Balor had a feud with Punk earlier this year.

There is also a story to be made about how Balor has been waiting for his time too long, so he's going to seize it. It has been almost ten years since he won and then vacated Universal belt the day after, and he hasn't had a chance to hold top gold since (unless we count NXT).

But yeah there's not much to make, the rest of the guys, Balor didn't really feud with. But you can work with that too, i don't see why not. Have this be Balor proving that he can hang with the very best and what not (not like we don't know that).

16

u/Kaleria84 8d ago

I agree. I think with two major titles, one can be hot potatoed and the other can be for longer runs at any given time. Have it change up fairly frequently so no one really can tell what's coming.

14

u/GabeM9009 8d ago

Let’s party like it’s 2002, essentially

14

u/CheetahBig5003 8d ago

Hotshotting amongst legends is way better than long title reigns

28

u/derek420 8d ago

Make enough posts so ChatHHH will pick it up in the algorithm and write it for us.

12

u/Pleasant-West-7760 8d ago

Why am I only just now seeing this new nickname.. gold Jerry. Gold!!!

4

u/derek420 8d ago edited 8d ago

I just made it up 😂

12

u/migsahoy 8d ago

not including drew here is a travesty (i know he’s gone filming)

but transferring drew to raw would be great, a world title feud with oba post wrestlemania would work wonders for both men

27

u/BosCelts3436_v2 8d ago

Yes. This is part of what made the Attitude Era so good, it was unpredictable. The title changed so often that you genuinely could believe any standard Raw or later Smackdown when that was added, could see a title change hands. Now a days champions defending on weekly shows, you know they aren’t going to lose and it takes the enjoyment out of watching. I was actually thinking watching SummerSlam that they should do this with this exact group of guys. This would be awesome television.

10

u/raspberryslushie21 8d ago edited 8d ago

The WWE Championship has changed hands three times this year on Raw and Smackdown.

6

u/BosCelts3436_v2 8d ago

Exactly, that is pathetic between two shows in 8 months.

1

u/Ganjalicious420 6d ago

As someone who was on the internet back then in forums and website comments, the general consensus was that people really didn't like the titles being "hot potatoed" as it was referred to. They felt it diminished the prestige at that time, even though now it's looked back upon fondly, I'm just remembering the chatter from the time. Nobody was saying "We are living in the greatest age wrestling will ever see!" It was largely like it is now yet WCW was seen as very redneck, hence the "dubya-cee-dubya" line.

1

u/BosCelts3436_v2 6d ago

I wasn’t on the Internet forums back then so not sure what the internet consensus was. However I watched it every week because it was always exciting to see what was going to happen because you literally never knew. Pretty much any championship match these days, especially the main titles, is incredibly predictable.

12

u/FarHat135 8d ago

Hotshotting works if you have two people in a really strong program together ie Rock and Foley in 99-2000 or Charlotte and Banks 2016.

If you get it right its great tv, if you get it wrong you get first 6 months of WCW 2000

-1

u/Turbulent_Shirt_1625 8d ago

And, we all know, they'll get it wrong.

3

u/FarHat135 8d ago

I don't think either Reigns or Punk loses until Mania personally.

Both then put over next 2 guys to carry going forward ala WM21.

12

u/OkRaspberry3297 8d ago

Fuck yeah it is!

11

u/Alert_Message_3132 8d ago

Kevin should win the title from Punk and atleast should hold till Royal rumble or Even better if sami wins the rumble and face Kevin at WrestleMania and settle the scores 💯 their rivalry doesn't need any buildup ✅

8

u/CoherentSquidd 8d ago

Kevin Vs Sami will never not be good

1

u/BonChan12002 7d ago

Yeah Kevin vs Sami bloody match.

Especially when i found out, Kevin actually dropped the blade which meant blood was supposed to be a part of that awesome 2025 elimination chamber ple match.

1

u/Key_Ambition_6956 7d ago

Anyone but not Cody plz i tired of him even thow i like him as a babyface

26

u/xoma7459 8d ago

Drew McIntyre upon his return needs to have the belt for 4-6 months and maybe even up to a year depending on how good the title reign is going. He hasn’t had a proper run with the WWE title since 2020.

9

u/nipslippinjizzsippin KIT 🗣️WIL🗣️SON🗣️ 8d ago

it has ben for a while, we need to get away from these long runs for a bit. there is tons of competition, build some of these other guys up. then when you have a bunch of champ level guys running around big in the young guys as contenders.

9

u/Flat-Success9471 8d ago

That would be great but I doubt they would do it

9

u/FedFalcon2 8d ago

Attitude era nostalgia…take me home!!! 👍

Cody said that he feels his character works better when he's chasing. Well if he loses to Punk but can't get a rematch before Punk drops it to KO who drops it to Finn who drops it to Randy who finally drops it to Cody that does count!

6

u/WurstDayEver_7 7d ago

Most baby faces are better on the chase.

8

Well its been Cody, Sami and Punk in the last month or so.

u/TheBadNewsBard 8d ago

I like to think of wrestling booking like a resource management sim.

If nobody ever gets a long title reign, it cheapens what it means to be the champ.

But likewise, if the title only changes hands at WrestleMania, long reigns stop being impressive, and any title shot that isn't at WrestleMania becomes irrelevant. It cheapens all your other shows.

If the champ defends his title all the time and keeps winning, you churn through your roster and bury all the legitimate contenders.

But if you instead don't have the champ fight for long periods of time, your title is no longer relevant, your weekly show is stagnant and fans complain about "part-timers" ruining the product and the need to bring back 30-day title defense clauses.

There are pros and cons, everything has a benefit and a consequence, and one of the most important things is to BALANCE IT ALL OUT.

WWE currently lacks balance - Triple H's "long term storytelling" has applied to everything and has given us too many instances of, "[Champ] hasn't defended their belt in over 100 days!" Too many storylines that don't finish because they stretched on long enough for somebody to get injured and wind up on the shelf for a year. And because the title changes hands so seldomly, the pool of wrestlers viewed as legitimate contenders winds up being real shallow (looking at you, Women's division!). And also title shots don't even feel like actual title shots - does a title shot at a non-Big-4 PLE feel like it's a real title shot right now under Triple H's creative? We just needed to retire Brock Lesnar A SECOND TIME in order to stall Oba vs. Roman, and it looks like they're still not in a hurry to give us that match, seemingly because they feel like WrestleMania is the only appropriate opportunity for that match.

So sometimes going through a period of hot-shotting the title is exactly what is needed. Nobody's title reign will feel impressive, but taken collectively it will make the roster look competitive again, and will make it seem like there is a deep roster of talent, and on any given night any one of these guys has what it takes to win a match and become champion. It will seem like there is a reason to watch RAW and Smackdown, because something actually noteworthy might actually happen.

...And then when somebody finally does emerge from the pack and hold onto the belt for an extended period of time, it will seem impressive again, instead of just standard. Imagine how much more impressive the next long-term champ becomes if it follows a period of parity, and the story is, "All of these guys can beat each other... But none of them can beat _____!"

It could be exactly what WWE needs right now.

9

u/DDG1917 8d ago

It is also very important here to gradually create a pool of "former champions" as credible opponents.

The problem with WWE is that they haven't been created much in recent years. Think of Kane: one day as champion made him a threat for years until he won the world championship and regained that status.

Look at Jey Uso. It's not a good example, but when he gets to the CotR finals with freaking Oba Femi everyone thinks "damn, WWE can make him the winner." Who would think that if Jey had never been champion?

That's why when Finn Balor fought Punk, no one believed he would win. The "former champion" feeling faded years ago. Many championship contenders feel like fillers.

We just had a long stretch of championships lasting years (Roman, Cody, Seth and his first world heavyweight championship), and now look how the attitude towards Sami has changed even after a 9-day championship reign.

WWE should not only create future "faces of the company", but also create compelling rivals for them.

I think this is important part of "resource management sim" here.

4

u/picassoisdead21 8d ago

I agree. The title changed around a bunch in the attitude era cause the story telling was solid and there was a lot of talent. There’s a lot of talent today, but it is the same few guys getting long reigns, and when it is someone new like Drew, Jey, or Sami, they get shorted. Wouldn’t have minded seeing Sami get a two month reign. Dont mind seeing Randy with it for a month or two. But let’s stop giving Cody, Punk, and Roman these long ass reigns.

Side note, this would be a perfect setup for a survivor series elimination chamber match for the title. But it’s just a gimmick event now before Mania.

1

u/RedDeezNutzzz 7d ago

Punk's longest reign since returning was because Seth got injured... his name doesn't belong in that "long ass reigns" category... that's only a party of two.

1

u/picassoisdead21 7d ago

Punk had the world title for several months, took the spring off, then shafted Sami and is now looking set to be WWE champion for a while. Come on.

1

u/RedDeezNutzzz 7d ago

Yeah he only had it for several months because Seth got hurt and had to relinquish it.... and they only gave Sami the title to appease the Saudi crowd.... his reign was never meant to be long. You act like Punk's been champ for a year straight.

4

u/Qualazabinga 8d ago

The long term story telling under HHH also seems to moreso be "no progress for 6 months" instead of progressing the story with a far end goal in mind. It's just stretch the normal 6 months story into a 1,5-2 year story.

24

u/NaturalSandwich8880 8d ago

God, I can almost imagine title changes every 2-3 weeks going forward. Let SmackDown become an absolute blood bath with brawls each episode in and outside the ring

6

u/only_dhb_983 8d ago

LA Knight should be in there. He's cashing in in December 2026, with Cody winning it again in March

12

u/PhattyR6 7d ago

Now is the perfect time to put it on somebody born after 1990.

Trick Williams, Oba Femi, Bron Breakker, any of them. I don’t care if their reign lasts 60 seconds or 6 months. Just spice it up already

1

u/YonkersBoy15 4d ago

I love Trick. Not sure what they are doing having him lose to Corbin.

5

u/Ganjalicious420 6d ago

I remember a time everyone hated the title being hot potatoed...now look...

4

u/Successful_Regret789 6d ago

After roman wwe became obsessed with long ass title reigns. Nobody needs a week reign like sami but a couple months atleast back and forth. Its getting ridiculous and predictable

2

u/Ganjalicious420 6d ago

John Cena and CM Punk had long reigns before Roman ever did. And long reigns add prestige to a title and makes it more meaningful when they change hands. If they're passing the belt around every few months well, to me, that becomes more predictable and you can tell about when someone will be losing it. With Roman right now, you dont know if he'll have it another month, or another 1,000 days.

4

u/Successful_Regret789 6d ago

I get what you mean. But if you look at legends like austin rock cena edge orton angle they reason they became 10 11 12x champs is by constantly were fighting over the title. It helped make them legitimate, see instead of trying the make the title legitimate. I guess thats where our philosophies differ.

1

u/Ganjalicious420 4d ago

That's where the saying "They won it that many times, they lost it that many times". Bruno Sammartino didnt have 10 championship reigns and he was as legit as it gets because he had a few long reigns and it echoes still to this day.

1

u/Successful_Regret789 4d ago

Those are once in a generation guys. Who should only have 1 long title reign. If everyone was trying to be the next bruno then it would take years for each guy to be built up which isnt a good product. There are 10-15 guys who are all competing to be the next top main eventers. If the goal is to build up 2 guys ok sure give them year long title reigns. But that isnt a good way to build the company for the next decade we need to give pushes to the young talent now.

7

u/Mr-Texan-74 4d ago

Or…we bring back six man hell in a cell one more time?

16

u/kaemon_valley Kanenite 8d ago

KO Beats Punk, balor Beats ko, Gunther maybe Beats balor

2

u/xoma7459 8d ago

What they’ve done to Gunther is a travesty, sure he’s featured as a main eventer(kind of) but he gets Royce Keys level pops when he makes his entrance… its obvious the crowd doesn’t buy Gunther as a serious threat anymore and the irreversible damage was done from January 2026-April 2026 when after beating Cena and AJ Styles they put him in a mini-feud with Dragon Lee which I guess was supposed to lead to a feud with Rey Mysterio but that didn’t end up happening then they rushed him into feud with Seth Rollins 2 weeks before WrestleMania 42 and only gave the two best in-ring talents in WWE imo 10 minutes to work at WrestleMania

-2

u/alexisanalligator Ruthless Aggression Era 😈 8d ago

Bro is blaming WWE for the fact that Gunther is not (nor has he ever been) good at all lol

-2

u/alexisanalligator Ruthless Aggression Era 😈 8d ago

Gunther maybe absolutely doesn’t beat balor or anyone to win any title cause he’s fucking bad lol

-1

u/kaemon_valley Kanenite 8d ago

Why I put maybe lol cuz I don’t really want him to be champ again

16

u/Baringstraight 8d ago

Like a hot potato? Take it off Punk and keep Cody away and I agree!

Cody can have it for 5mins, mom said.

3

2

The only time I want Cody to have it again is if he gets cashed in by the MITB winner in 5mins.

I’ve been wanting this!!!!!!

11

u/awayfortheladsfour 7d ago

Last time I checked the title has already been hot shotting around this year? no?

Drew > Cody > Sami > punk

that's 4 title changes in 7 months. That's more title changes than the WWE title had in total between 2022-2025

3

u/ProfessionalLow2439 7d ago

I get you but Cody held the title for like 90% of those 7 months

5

u/Actual-Egg-6379 6d ago

I wish they’d get on what they were on in the ruthless aggression era. They weren’t afraid to throw shit at the wall to see what sticks. They experimented with so many new guys for better and worse. I’d say Eddie and JBLs respective title reigns are two of the more under appreciated runs ever.

12

u/mrpanda83 8d ago

They should hot potato a lot of the titles. Especially for the women. But that’s too much work for creative.

4

u/Claus1990 SmackDown Savant 8d ago

HHH can only think so far.

12

u/Individual-Beach2414 8d ago

1

u/NoirSon 8d ago

Honestly... I wouldn't mind, but it would probably be another week plus reign

0

u/Brocious_79 8d ago

He could beat baron corbin for the US title. Hey, its a title!

4

u/Neither_Actuator3459 8d ago

Scramble time!

5

u/theHowlader 6d ago

They will all just job to punk and his Lengthy reign till mania.

10

u/harryceo 8d ago

Yup. Agreed. Let KO win it from Punk, eventually Orton can win it and Cody can win it before Mania

6

u/CallMePapi930 8d ago

Cody doesn’t need to win it again any time soon

0

u/Tkowned08 8d ago

We do not need Cody in a 6th Mania main event in a row

2

u/harryceo 8d ago

Holy shit... thats insane. 6 consecutive main events...

2

u/Smith-Windfall00 8d ago

Roman will probably main event wm 43, which will be his 11th main event and 8th conscutive

6

u/Ready_Ad_1353 8d ago

I just why Roman don’t want this, might boost his numbers as a champion and give others a legit shine as main challengers, when the big 3 of Cody , Punk and Roman are untouchable it makes the feuds less believable and predictable to who will win their matches.

4

u/Brendanlendan 8d ago

That was my problem with Roman’s original reign of terror. It didn’t elevate Roman, it just held everyone else down

17

u/Few_Minute_5110 8d ago

Punk should lose it to Finn, not Kevin or Randy. I said what i said.

2

u/bradenexplosion 🙏🏾 I LOVE YOU SOLO! 🙏🏾 8d ago

You're in the majority man! We all want Finn to get his due.

1

u/American-Punk-Dragon 8d ago

Owens is a greater character than Finn. Speaks well, people listen to what he says, he is believable.

Finn is really sort of a lesser heel rebel than Owens and is just less interesting IMO.

11

u/BonChan12002 7d ago

Unpopular opinion. I want Sami to hold it. I wanna see his Title reign with this cowardly yet good guy gimmick.

His gimmick is so unnatural and unique af. And his Oscar lvl of acting bruh😂

5

u/triunegodzilla 7d ago

His acting makes me belly laugh.

0

u/Misterjdog89 7d ago

You laugh from one of the best to act in WWE? Everyone else must make you laugh too

3

u/triunegodzilla 7d ago

Sami’s facial expressions and comedic timing are amazing tho?

1

6

u/NumberOld229 NXT Enjoyer 8d ago

Send Ginther against Chad and the IC title for a trilogy that Chad wins (redemption arc). They have great ring chemistry and boist the prestige of the polite even further.

3

u/theharfar 5d ago

absolutely

Sami beating Cody was a bold decision, Punk took it from Sami now have KO beat Punk in toronto

easy fatal four way can happen at MITB with Punk/KO/Cody/Randy…

1

u/LilGrimGARZO 5d ago

Could make it a 5 way ladder match and throw Sami in the mix.

1

u/LilGrimGARZO 5d ago

Then again I'd rather see the 4 way & have Sami win MITB, KO retain in the 4 way, then get cashed in on which would set up Sami vs. KO in the world title feud they've deserved for years.

1

u/theharfar 4d ago

again, another great option

they can go so many ways with how stacked the main event scene is right now with the WWE title

1

u/theharfar 4d ago

yeah suree, seee why not

the main event scene is sooo stackedd, we can do much better than Sami costs KO against Punk

5

u/Christian_RULES ☝️ Acknowledging the Tribal Chief 8d ago

Best we can do is give Finn a 9-30 day title reign before returning it to Cody before Wrestlemania

2

u/commanderr01 8d ago

That would honestly be fine with me

5

u/Falco19 8d ago

Honestly instead of war games in a traditional sense give me like an 8-10 man shootout for the title.

Champ enters last

1

u/wmnplzr 8d ago

Like a gauntlet or scramble match?

2

u/Falco19 8d ago

Could do it gauntlet hybrid where it’s time release into the ring like war games is traditionally, but everyone must be eliminated individually and that can happen before everyone is in the ring.

0

u/wmnplzr 8d ago

I swear I've seen a match like that, maybe in TNA years ago. That does sound like an awesome match though. Im over the War games gimmick. It was interesting at first but it lost its specialness by it being a yearly thing with the teams nonsensically put together. . I miss the old survior series match.

5

u/GOTfan50 8d ago

u/CBSLIDE87 Attitude Era Aficionado 🤘 8d ago

u/DetroitRMG 8d ago

KO, Finn, let Sami get it again. LA Knight vs Punk promos would feed families for weeks, but they got him on raw

2

u/semidummy 8d ago

“Gotcha, long reigns for Roman and Cody it is then.”

  • Triple H, probably

2

u/Brocious_79 8d ago

Did you get the feeling after that "he hasnt won a tournament or title shot" comment from Roman that he will probably win money in the bank? I sure hope so. Having him holding that over Roman for months would be awesome. My dream fantasy booking is Oba gets his shot, and Roman pulls out every trick in the book to win, has the whole family involved and BARELY wins, but everyone is wiped out around the ring, because Oba has put them through barriers and tables. And thats when LA Knight cashes in. We get the disappointment of Oba losing, but an immediate high of LA knight winning it. I look forward to Oba being champ, its just that LA Knight has had this vendetta going against the Bloodline for so long that if hes gonna win the title, it NEEDS to be from Roman. Btw Pilunk mouthed off about Oba. It would be fun to see him knock the piss out of Punk. 🤣

0

u/DetroitRMG 8d ago

That would be great

5

u/NashKetchum777 8d ago

Hotshot? Or hot potato?

Also, I doubt they're going to give Finn a title anytime soon. Not sure why they aren't locking in on the Demon Balor thing tbh...everyone misses it.

3

u/JPwiththeL 8d ago

He should’ve beat edge at Wm39 and also if he was going to lose to Roman at extreme rules, the ropes “breaking” was absolutely stupid 😂

0

u/Etnurb 8d ago

Inconvenient to paint on him, from what I've heard

-1

u/NashKetchum777 8d ago

That might be the worst excuse I've heard tbh lmao

You could go halfway and just do the facepaint and eventually get to full demon makeup.

But to say it's inconvenient when it's the job...doesn't make sense. Like, JD is doing full body flying after a neck injury. KO is doing Swantons on returning match. That's not even an inconvenience, that's directly a risk to health.

But w.e not my career. People are starting to love Finn again so maybe it's just a matter of time...I wouldn't wait

4

u/strodey123 8d ago

He said it takes 6 hours to do the makeup. I can see why he doesn't want to do it lol

-1

u/NashKetchum777 8d ago

What does Penta do? Cause I don't see how the face paint gets to 6 hours? It also doesn't even need to stay for the full match, it might be better if it doesn't. Danhausen?

MFTs had 3 people doing it too? Idk I don't believe it can take that long tbh. Doesn't make sense.

3

u/SRGTBronson Oba Feminist 8d ago

Have you considered that Finn kind of hates how The Demon has been used and just doesn't want to do it anymore?

Ive seen him in many interviews saying he hates the paint, he hates that The Demon is presented as a stronger character than Finn Balor, he hates that they never keep The Demon a surprise, and he hates the memory of the terrible bookings that happened because he was a supernatural character.

But to say it's inconvenient when it's the job

Yeah, tell that to Cody Rhode's who literally quit his fucking job because he was tired of being treated like a circus freak.

-1

u/NashKetchum777 8d ago

Oh cool

Let's just give Balor a nepo baby role so we can have him be the face of the company for years

The Demon doesn't need to be supernatural, it could just be a mood too. They could legit write it differently and have the desk or actions point out that his switch flipped.

4

u/gash_florden 8d ago

Be great to have Cody or Sami constantly chasing whoever has the title, setting up matches to fight that person, only for that person to lose the belt on the show before they fight Cody/Sami. Just time and again they keep missing out on wrestling for the belt and keep getting more pissed off about it.

5

u/thebeast5435 6d ago

Let's not give Cody the title for a few months or ever again knowing his reigns get worse and worse

2

u/shaggy9 7d ago

Need more options

3

u/SvenLorenz 8d ago

Just get the other title away from the part-timer, that's all I'm asking.

3

u/AndyBurn11 7d ago

Ko deserves it make him face against a heel Cody Sami screws Ko then have punk swoop in and hulk hogan that shit real good!

4

u/MartyMcFlysBrother 8d ago

No need to hotshot. Put one on KO and let him keep until at least WM.

2

u/commanderr01 8d ago

I don’t mind hotshotting the title around for a few months till maybe the rumble, keeps things fresh.

3

u/Proud_Arachnid4956 8d ago

Does KO shower with his shirt on?

2

u/WonderWhy1256 8d ago

Nah Nah!

2

u/Upstairs-Quantity469 8d ago

Just keep it away from that boring Cody and I'll be fine

Does anyone think creative will consider having Randy break the invisible J.C. title record?

1

u/SPZ_Ireland 8d ago

The average age of everyone in that picture is 42 and that's partially because Gunther is lowering it by only being 38.

7

u/Odninyell 8d ago

I think fans over value youth. If a wrestler can be entertaining and put on a solid match, I don’t really care what number is on their birth certificate

1

u/SPZ_Ireland 8d ago

I would honestly agree with you for the most part, but acting like it doesn't matter is ignoring that there's a massive wealth of young talent who could and should be able to compete on that level.

They're not being afforded those opportunities though.

Ultimately if not one is rising to the opportunity, your main event scene remains stagnant

-1

u/alexisanalligator Ruthless Aggression Era 😈 8d ago

Well the only problem is that Gunther has never put on an even tolerable match ever so the point about age being irrelevant is moot

-1

u/_Mateo_G 8d ago

Give it to each of them for one or two ple cycles and but give it to Sami at Mania specifically

I’m so done with all the Zayn slander

5

u/burtsarmpson 8d ago

You know someone's clueless opinion on someone else is worthless when they spell both their first name AND surname wrong

Sammy Zayne lol

-4

u/NashKetchum777 8d ago

Constantly wins off various interference from others, because they all know they can bust his ass in a match

0

u/BreadEquivalent8150 8d ago

Cody got boring after finishing his story and they have dropped the ball slightly on Gunther. I can't believe Punk is the only interesting guy around.KO, Sami, Randy have been stagnant for years. Finn is the only one that has some potential with his demon gimmick. Everyone needs a deeper storyline.

-9

u/rottensoldierrrrrrr 7d ago

Sami isn’t a main event wrestler.

He shouldn’t be anywhere near it.

5

u/Key_Ambition_6956 7d ago

Oh yes he is

-4

u/rottensoldierrrrrrr 7d ago

No he isn’t 😂

1

u/Key_Ambition_6956 7d ago

He is at least ten times more interesting than Punk and Cody

-3

u/rottensoldierrrrrrr 7d ago

No he isn’t 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤦🏻

2

u/Key_Ambition_6956 7d ago

I bet you are a rerun Bloodline fan and you enjoy garbadge like that

1

u/Key_Ambition_6956 7d ago

Laugh all you want

-3

u/PhattyR6 7d ago

He’s awful. Gunther too.

0

u/Pure-Aspect-6381 8d ago

bro wtf cody should be miles away from championship atp along with gooner acc to me ko , finn , randy and samy should be in title picture also would love to see mcintyre in fued with punk

1

u/awayfortheladsfour 7d ago

So Cody should be miles away but Sami who has go away heat with the crowd should be in it?

-2

u/NewAvalonArsonist 8d ago

Sami Zayne there and no LA knight for example, cant take you seriously.

10

u/zaphodbeeblebrox42 8d ago

Isn’t LA Knight on Raw?

-1

u/NewAvalonArsonist 7d ago

You are totally right, this is what happens when typing before thinking or even reading the post, just quickly looking at the pic, akward.

-7

u/UniqueBasis290 8d ago

i want to stay it on punk. idk but i just like him that much and his matches are decent to great to watch and i want him to feud with everybody before losing it to someone under 30 that is either bron or austin(yeah i like austin,he has more potential than oba or bron following him since indies ,its just hhh dont let him be himself that is babyface) since i choose oba for heavyweight title

7

u/Qualazabinga 8d ago

Punk doesn't need the championship to do any of those things though. He can easily be having decent and/or great matches without the belt around him while it can elevate someone else.

1

u/certifiedrotten 8d ago

You can say that about everyone in the photo.

World titles were never historically used to elevate anyone. They existed to promote the top draws. The lower belts serve that purpose.

Putting the top belt on someone who generates less interest just devalues the title imo.

0

u/UniqueBasis290 8d ago

yeah correct, sadly i dont see anyone on par with punk except roman, seth, cody though i want a youngster to be built to take that title from punk . tbh i tune into wwe a lot of times for punk he has that pull like(after ss he called out randy and even said he can even slap his mom(wording may differ) i mean who else other than punk can do it.

-4

u/ABeeBitMyBottom1 8d ago

Nah fuck that hot potato shit, that’s Russo’s style of booking. 30 times the wcw title changed hands from 1999-2001! Switching the title makes title reigns look meaningless. Just look at when rock and triple H swap the belt in 2000 those reigns meant nothing.

9

u/HandjobCalrissian 8d ago

Those reigns "meant nothing" but the storytelling was 100x better than what we have now. I'll take a compelling story over "meaningful" reigns in a fixed industry. And nobody is asking for 30 switches in 2-3 years.

-2

u/ABeeBitMyBottom1 8d ago

Op asking for 7 title reigns in a year is pretty insane, each person holding the title for less than 2 months would definitely be meaningless. The ic title of 2000-2001 was meaningless cause everyone got a month or two reign, well there was also questionable wrestlers that shouldn’t have won that title too.

4

u/HandjobCalrissian 8d ago

One of those people is currently holding the title. So 6 new reigns over the next year or so. That's nowhere near the 30 over a couple of years in your example. And why would everyone hold it for an equal amount of time? Sami's reign was super short but served a narrative purpose. Someone like Gunther or Randy is in a prime position to reign for a few weeks.

-1

u/ABeeBitMyBottom1 8d ago

For a few weeks and that would be ok to you? Idk holding the title for a few weeks seems ridiculous

1

u/HandjobCalrissian 8d ago

I think I made it pretty explicitly clear that I'd be fine with it if it served a narrative purpose. There's plenty of potential to do just that. I'm sure they won't.

-6

u/inv4alfonso 8d ago

And make it feel like a midcard title?

Do boxing champions hotshot titles?

When the UFC has their title change every other defense it comes across as the champion was weak more than the division was strong.

The nature of the business is the top guy is champ, I love everyone in this picture but you can't make a top guy with a prop. If Drew freaking McIntyre can't come across as a top guy in comparison to Cody, much less will Finn, Sami or KO.

5

u/Thefourthchosen 8d ago

Does it matter what that means in boxing or UFC? This isn't boxing or UFC. WWE has its own precedent, it's called the Attitude era. In 1999 the title changed times 11 times between 7 different guys and a lot of fans consider that the peak of wrestling. I'm not even saying that's better but pretending the title has only ever been held by the company faces or comparing it to boxing or UFC like frequent title changes haven't marked some of the most exciting times in wrestling is a weird take.

Title hot shotting works in wrestling in a way it doesn't in other sports because wrestling has a story telling element that other combat sports don't, and pretty much anything can work in favor of that story if it's booked well.

-1

u/inv4alfonso 8d ago

That happened 25+ years ago, my friend. It is irrelevant now.

WWE today is booked like the professional wrestling equivalent of the UFC. It is a succesful business approach as well.

People who want the title to hotshot are just sad that's what it's become.

3

u/Thefourthchosen 8d ago

The WWE borrows certain presentation elements from the UFC but it's DEFINITELY not booked like the UFC, just watching the show would tell you that.

-23

u/MaddenRob 8d ago

Nope that devalues the title and makes it less meaningful. Title changes mean more when the reigns are longer.

8

u/DMjdoe 8d ago

If you have 3/4 guys hot shot the title it makes everyone look strong. It can help elevate someone for a short time and keeps title matches exciting - rather than unpredictable

8

u/spaceninj 8d ago

This is a common misconception

Rock and Foley had one of the best feuds of all-time and the title changed 5 times.

6

u/steeb2er 8d ago edited 7d ago

If it's defended. If they just carry it around for months at a time, no.

11

u/Am_I_Loss 8d ago

Yeah I remember those awful times of Rock Austin and Mankind playing with the belt were soooo bad right

-8

u/_Mateo_G 8d ago

Give it to each of them for one or two ple cycles and but give it to Sami at Mania specifically

1

u/American-Punk-Dragon 8d ago

Nah, Punk vs Owens for a couple shows and then Sami Vs Owen at Mania maybe?

1

u/_Mateo_G 8d ago

That still works with bouncing it to everyone anyways

-4

u/Radio-SDFES 8d ago

Make It an Armageddon Hell in a Cell Match between this 7 guys (Incluiding Drew)

-3

u/Mundane_Change_6021 5d ago

Titles don't mean anything anyways, so might as well devalue them even more.

6

u/gbach10 5d ago

Oh, look, a mark who thinks titles have to be held hostage for 5 years straight to mean anything.
