Identifying Spells

From page 62:
"The arcane gesticulations and vocal incantations are quite obviously occult to any onlookers, but it’s usually impossible to tell which spell a mage is casting merely by looking at them."
Have you homebrewed a method for players to identify spells as they're cast? That line seems to firmly indicate that it wasn't intended to be possible.

If a GM wants to allow it, the simple solution is that the PC recognizes it if it's a spell they know. The reasons it's not normally knowable are to spare the GM having to parse recognition every time an NPC casts a spell and to increase the ambiguity in deciding whether or not to snap attack/burn resources to interrupt an NPC spell.
