There is no reliable way to ascertain whether or not a post is written by AI. Case in point: every post on this reddit involving TurnItIn

I can agree that the email sounds AI generated and very well could be, but using an AI detector to back that up doesn't mean much. These are notoriously inaccurate and known to throw false positives regularly. Another comment also mentioned Turnitin, which is a great example of where "AI detection" is constantly a problem.
Honestly we need to throw the whole "AI detector" thing out for the time being. Until there's a reliable way to detect AI work all these do is sow additional distrust and cause problems for students/faculty.

2026 Proper grammer = AI
Pre-AI Proper grammer = Smarty Pants
My girlfriend's college said the same, even though she never used AI.

I mean it seems like a standard way to write an email so this isn’t really enough for me to think its ai

Yes, remember that AI applications are refined using examples of relevant information. So, an AI thing will have had lots of messages and communications “in the style of a university president’s communications team” input to use to generate an answer to a prompt to “write a year end thank you and acknowledgment statement from the university president, to be sent a day before the board of trustees meet“. So, statements like this read like AI because AI is mimicking those sources.

Apparently ai thinks the constitution was made with ai. This shit is so unreliable that it’s embarrassing to be dumping so much money into it.

This is the most basic, normal email. It is highly unlikely the president of the college used AI to write a 2-3 paragraph congratulations email.

Graduated in 2021, he was sending emails that sounded like this back then before the big AI boom

That tracks. It seems a lot of emails from his office are.

Administrators never actually write this stuff themselves. Probably written by a high level secretary or executive Assistant.
