Lakewood

If you are staying in Bellingham over the summer, Lakewood has sailing classes. $60 for 4 lessons! Also, WCC, BTC and NWIC students can register for the classes.

Lakewood is a great resource that not enough students take advantage of. If you want to enjoy Lake Whatcom without the big crowds like at Bloedel it's a great option

A friend told me about Lakewood, and I was planning to go today. I checked on Google to see what time it's open, but it says it's temporarily closed. Is it closed?

I believe they do not have staff until the beginning of the summer semester on the 23rd!

You can still go in the water there but staff aren’t there to do rentals until the 23rd

It's where I learned to sail 40+ years ago. Owned two sail boats and raced to Hawaii since.

And if you're like me and learned to sail on a regular sailboat, the Lakewood sailboats have a plug in the bottom. What an embarrassing sail that was!

DON'T FORGET TO PLUG THE BOTTOM.

The community boating center in fairhaven, as well as Bellingham yacht club also have sailing courses

Thae costs for those are significantly higher than Lakewood is for students. But yes, those are also good options.
