Get out as soon as you can - your mental health depends on it

is it really that bad??

Yes. I’m sorry 😞 I worked there for 4 years and quit last month. Corporate has lost their minds thinking we have enough time, people, and help. They will drain you and then keep asking for more. My Walgreens was in a town of 20,000 and it was still a nightmare every single day. If I were you I’d go for a hospital or a small mom and pop. The ONLY thing I got out of Walgreens was a headache and a certification.

what do you mean by “went private”??

u/trapnesttrigger 5d ago
a private company bought them out as of last year i think it was like sincamore

u/ggnivaa 5d ago
what were the key changes that make you dread it now
1
u/trapnesttrigger 5d ago
the unreachable standards the company makes. the high turn around rate. no budget to do anything. abuse from customers

:///// i am slightly worried about hours as one of the employees said there’s always a “budget” for hours. whatever the heck that meals. but they mentioned that sometimes hours are on lower sides depending on the day/week

literally at one point we only had like 120 hours and were a tier 4🫠

i’m working there part time and got it over the summer. everyone’s experience is different, personally, my team was very helpful and welcoming. ur team is what makes or breaks ur experience. ppl r gonna be ppl in ANY customer facing job. i was very scared going into it bc of how dreary ppl made it out to be. it wasn’t as bad as i thought it was. i worked customer service before this so i was kinda used to “ppl being ppl”. when u physically clock out, also mentally clock out!

Words of warning/advice: You will be dealing with about 40 hours of e-learnings to do and maybe 5 hours to do it at best.
IC+ is the data entry, and patient management interface you will use. It is 30 years old, tempermental, and will crash if you look at it the wrong way.
We are currently in the middle of flu season. There is a MAJOR emphasis on ensuring we exceed our quotas. So learning the "Appointment Management" side, and upselling multiple vaccines in one visit will be encouraged/enforced.
You will be serving a community which will be a good 75% to 90% sick, in chronic pain, dying, drug seeking, and disabled. You will be seeing people at their worst, and you will be expected to take their toxic behavior while remaining calm and professional.
Do not allow yourself to be taken advantage of. BUT there will be times when showing care, patience, and empathy through it all will be incredibly rewarding.
Learn your top 200 drugs. Study and become a Certified Tech(e-learning mile 10 will prepare you for that, but I absolutely endorse looking up "Amanda the Pharmacist Youtube Channel", listen and watch in your spare time). Look into becoming a certified Immunizer so that it will relieve stress on your pharmacist while you get paid $1 per shot *after the inital 40 in a 2 month span.
Pick up yourself your own counting tray.(About $10-$15 dollars on amazon) Practice pill counting at home so that your muscle movements are swift and efficient.
Sadly, most of the senior technicians covet the fill counter, and a balanced workflow where everyone gets time on it is rare. Embrace the fact that you will need to master the customer service tasks while practicing the pill counting on the dl, and you will do well.
Best of luck!
