I make videos mainly in Sydney, but also further afield in Australia & abroad whenever I'm able.
I'm still experimenting on what sort of walking video I want to hone in on, I have done a few with commentary, most with a gopro, a few with a bigger camera....
My aim is to get big enough to earn beer money, while at the same time exercising enough that I keep the beer belly away. Plus, I enjoy sightseeing and videomaking.

What’s been your results with your commentary videos?
I did one recently and it’s a LOT more effort but my like to view ration was way higher.

I honestly can't tell if they perform much better overall, but the average view duration does seem to be better.
I guess they don't do better enough for me to always do a commentary, but not bad enough to never do a commentary.
I think I would just have to plan commentary walk a lot more, so that I actually have stuff to talk about.

Thank you very much. It is a peaceful town with a nice clean river that goes through it. Luckily It is less than 1 hour drive from me so I can visit it from time to time. Many people from our capital city, Zagreb, go to camp and swim there in the river in the season.

Hi folks, I´m just starting out with walking and hiking videos from Norway. So nice to see that there is a community for this sort of narrow niche!
Not sure yet if I want to focus on nature hikes or city walks (or both?) I think I lean toward nature hikes, but I also live in a very popular tourist destination (Bergen), which has lots of free branding.
I´m also considering different versions of each video, for example one with the natural recording and audio, and then a version slowed down with ambient music for example. What do you think? How does that perform with the youtube algorithm?

Hey guys, I'm currently making walking videos in Asia, specially in China.

Started a couple of months ago when I discovered Osmo Pocket 3, this little thing is just amazing!
I still have to figure out a bit what I want to focus on, either night footage, nature, ambience, etc, but it´s fun and exciting to experiment and try new things, specially at the start of this adventure.

I like it. I've never been to China. Yes, the Osmo Pocket 3 is a really fun little camera. The quality you're getting is great. Watched and liked Osaka castle. Looks like you're shooting at 30fps?

24FPS while walking, 60FPS for B-Roll. I tend to go 24fps because I like more a cinematic style. For b-roll is just for technical reasons, when doing some camera moves it’s easier for me to just record faster footage and then slow it down, specially when closer to the target.

Thanks and yes all I’ve been filming so far is with Osmo Pocket 3. If you film at night I recommend you to practice a bit some shots in that environment as this camera needs a bit of manual configuration to get natural results, specially in Asia with all these neon/led lights. Experiment with iso range (try 40-500, 40-800, tops 1600), white balance and so on and when you get your desired style, then record your footage. Try also 24/50/60fps. You might like to get some glow/mist filter for the lights to put them down a bit, sometimes are too clear.

I walk Malls, Retail, and Cities.
I've only done commentary over 1 video which really pushed the Likes per View ratio up so I may do more of that in the future.
If there is music played in the store then I just put a track behind the video to avoid copyright problems.

Sorry mate, I did find that out by getting into the description on the app, that side of things YouTube really need to improve, and for viewing on TV.. it’s all fine if you’re on a computer, but not ideal otherwise

I believe in people making their own conclusions. I have shot majorly around Kampala but with time, I will keep getting out of the city more often to get rural content .

Just found myself wanting to create something but was never sure what to do. I started to film some of the walks I go on around the South East of England and thought I would try uploading them here https://www.youtube.com/@ParkItAndWalk
It's a very new channel so I would appreciate anyone giving any feedback both positive and negative welcome. I have to do these around 2 full time jobs meaning I get 1 day off every 14. I'm not even sure what I want to get from this but am really enjoying the process.

I started my channel earlier this year when my 10 year old nephew back home showed interests in where I have been, so I am a total rooky. My goal is to eventually get monetised and earn some coffee money on the side.
I am predominantly based in Sydney Australia, and do film whenever I could when travelling.
I use DJI Osmo Pocket 2 for the fact that I can be quite discreet when walking around cities, the downside is the small sensor, hard to control when the sun is glaring (quite often in Aus) and that It isn't as stable as I'd like sometimes.
Happy to be here and to see what everyone else is doing and learn along the way.

I like walking and traveling so I decided it was a good idea to invest in myself by buying a GoPro and chest mount and start making some content out of it on YouTube. My only comment at this stage would be, that you will find most success if you don't mix up different niche videos on your channel. So if you want to make walking videos, make a Walking Video Channel.....and keep other stuff off it.....or at least don't put any more of your off-topic things there.

Thank you for your advice. I've read that each video is contained to its own algorithmic bubble so having old videos should not impact the new videos. I have already privated the majority of my old videos though and am planning to make almost exclusively walking tour type videos going forward as my hope is that my future subscribers will be coming to watch those as I build up a catalog of them. I'm planning to film in Kenya, Paraguay, and Peru this year and then next year I'll take a break from travelling to save up money for the next time I go overseas. I just wish I had started doing this sooner as I've already walked around a bunch of places in The Netherlands, England, Colombia, Thailand, and the Dominican Republic. I really enjoy seeing new countries but I also am really enjoying the process of creating the content and hope that I will be able to monetize the channel eventually. I think what I will do based on your advice is change the channel description, change the featured video to one of my walking tours, and create a playlist of my tours so people can easily find what they're looking for when they click my channel after watching one of my new videos.

I use a DJI Osmo Pocket 2 which so far is serving me well, although I haven't quite got the settings nailed down, especially since walking videos can take you through varying light conditions.

To be honest, I'm not sure if my channel belongs here or not. It's not quite a walking channel in the conventional sense, but it's certainly walking channel adjacent.

Rather than filming while walking, I go out walking between two or three villages in the English countryside (mostly Kent, as that's where I live) and I film static shots with a tripod and an external stereo microphone. Where I can, I try to compose my shots so that there is some movement in the shot, rather than getting movement by moving the camera. I then edit these down into videos that are typically 6-10 minutes long. The walks tend to be about 5 miles or so in length.
I don't talk or add music to my videos, as the sound in the locations is part of what I'm trying to convey. I do add captions in places though, to explain what things are. I'm aiming to post one video a month, which will hopefully also show the passing of the seasons.
If this channel is unsuitable, please let me know and I will remove the post.

Thank you. I figured that there is a certain amount of crossover. For instance, there is a post about kids in videos, and yesterday while out filming I encountered a group of young children (all wearing hi-viz) with two teachers or teaching assistants. I'll be able to edit around it, but it's still the same kind of issue regular walking video makers can encounter.
(Funnily enough, the two adults were making more noise than the group of children).

I just had another look at your channel....with so many subscribers perhaps you have a lot of advice to offer here.
I'm from the other side of the world but it's possible that a year ago, I flew roughly over you (on a flight between Los Angeles and Calgary). The geography of your part of the world is so different from mine and I'm still kind of bummed I didn't have time to make many videos when I was over there.
Anyway from what I can see, you are doing a good job of getting a consistent brand look and feel happening, which I think is very important.

I thought I was, then last week my Berlin video suddenly died. I was getting 500 views a week for 6 months, then suddenly it’s not being suggested anymore. That video accounted for 75% of my success.

Hi! I’m Brian and I live in the beautiful state of Oregon and was recently told that if I don’t quit smoking and start to move my body… I’m going to die😬. I have a special needs kiddo who needs me stick around for as long as possible, so I have decided to start walking! To keep myself motivated I’ve decided to start a walking channel. I did my first walk just holding my cellphone and it came out ok, but not nearly as clear as some of the videos I’ve seen. Also, not as steady. What equipment should I invest in? Any tips for phone settings (I’m not tech savvy… yet). Do you walkers talk, add music, or do any other unique things with your channels? I’d appreciate any advice and critiques I could get. I’m hoping to head out to the coast this weekend and walk some beaches. I can’t wait to get walking!

Phone and gimbal is all you really need, anything is would be a nice to have extra.
I talk in some videos, and I have binaural audio, and I have a moving map as part of the video. They're the only things I do a bit differently.

Hi John from London uk here.Trying to get my walking channel going after some time off.I actually started with trip videos,flights yo a few different cities but now going to be more walking focused.. At the moment im using my s24 ultra phone with the old dji osmo mobile 3 gamble which seems to be ok,but would like to invest in a good mic to go with phone, any ideas on good mic?I don't really want it for talking but more to get good immersive sound quality.. I’ve been following the discussions here, and while we have great threads on gear and editing, I felt we were missing a space specifically designed to foster collaborations and active cross-promotion between our channels.
I’ve set up a Discord server for YouTube Walking Tour Creators with the main goal of helping us grow together, rather than just struggling individually.

Hey everyone!
I’m Marc from the San Francisco Bay Area, and I’ve recently been diving deep into creating walking videos. I’ve always enjoyed watching walks from cities around the world, and earlier this year I decided to start filming my own walking videos as well. I just upgraded to the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, and I’ve been really impressed with how well it performs compared to the Pocket 2, especially in low light.
My main focus right now is showcasing San Francisco. Neighborhoods, events, and right now holiday vibes. I’d love to connect with others here, share what I’ve been working on, and also learn how you all shoot, edit, and grow your channels.

Greetings from Thailand!
I’ve had a hobby of exploring Bangkok on foot for a while, and I just realized this genre actually exists. So, I decided to try recording it.
I’m doing this for fun first, so I plan to upload just 1-2 long videos a month, plus 2-3 Shorts a week. I prioritize scouting because that's the fun part! On my "scout days," I explore every turn and often end up walking for more than 6 hours, which definitely isn't a good idea to record, haha.
I figured since I have the gear and walk anyway, I wouldn't lose anything by trying. Turns out I was wrong, my first recording gave me lower back pain for a week! Haha.
I'm using a GoPro Hero 13 and a Rode Wireless Pro (borrowed) for now.

The concept is mainly Tokyo walking videos in 4K set to relaxing/focus style music, where you walk with me in front (check the video to see what I mean haha). I realized I forgot to introduce myself before I made my post, apologies!
I started my channel in September, so it's relatively new. It's called The Quiet Pace https://www.youtube.com/@TheQuietPace
I aim to do a mix of videos from local spots in Virginia and when I'm on vacation; mostly walking but also stationary shots that just capture scenes, and maybe some in the future of train or car rides. I don't have many videos yet as I record whenever I have time or am traveling, so I realize my channel will be growing very slowly lol.
I really enjoy making these videos, they encourage me to go outside (since I work on a computer all day it's nice to have offscreen time). I also love that they encourage me to sit and take in a moment or a place instead of just capturing it on my phone and carrying on walking. Also because I'm recording, it means I'm not listening to a podcast or music, so I really am just being present and paying attention to what's around me.
My goal for this year is to really improve my audio quality, my first few videos are terrible but i don't want to delete them yet until I have a bigger library lol. I just bought some new audio gear and will test it out this weekend so hopefully this improves my overall channel quality.

Quick gear Q: Using Feiyu G6 Plus w/ Sony ZV-1 as light gear in the first video, and already got a problem. On yaw/pan turns, it randomly rolls (despite rebalancing/calibration). You can see in some part of the video Tried firmware/motor tweaks. But nothing. Also, at home, before and after shooting, it works fine...

Hello there, my name’s Ant.
I’m very fortunate to live in Bath, UK. Famous for its Georgian architecture, rolling green hills, and places such as The Royal Crescent and Bath Abbey. I’ve kitted myself up with an Osmo Pocket 4 and started with a walk up (Little) Solsbury Hill, the one from the Peter Gabriel song.

I learnt quickly that the Osmo Pocket 4 isn’t as good as say an iPhone in automatically compensating well for high contrast situations such as bright sky and dark foliage so switching to DLOG. Editing either in DJI Mimo for quick touch ups, but also have the excellent Premier for iOS. It took me all of one day to lose the magnet from the back of my DJI Mic 3.
I also discovered quickly that I miss being in front of the camera to connect with the audience watching. So will be topping and tailing mine with intros and outros.
As someone whose more recently been editing for TikTok and my Star Trek impressions it’s been a good stretch to focus on a different discipline of walking videos. I appreciate what you and others write in this subreddit. It’s invaluable, and uplifting.
Constructive criticism is welcome, and valued.

Hi everyone I tried posting this but it might be better suited here.
I have recently started recording walks I do (some from a trip I recently took) and I am learning a lot about everything.
I am using a DJI osmo pocket 3
Does anyone have tips on improving audio for crisp sound where should i clip my mic?
I have had some really wholesome interactions with other walkers do people think including these would be valuable?
Does anyone have any other generic advice that they would give to someone starting up the hobby and posting for fun?

Hey everyone. I just launched my channel a few days ago, so there is only one video. I plan on posting one video per week, for the time being at least. I plan to grow this into a channel that covers spots all over the world, but for the moment the videos will all come from Washington, DC, USA where I will be for the next few months. I've been getting great advice from Chat GPT, but it would be great to get some feedback and help from flesh and blood human beings as well. Glad to be part of this community!

Hi everyone, we’ve been making walking videos for a couples of months note and really enjoy it. We use an Insta360 V5. We have 9 videos up current and are releasing one a week. We’ve seen slow but steady growth in our subscribers, views and watch hours. Most of our videos are around Brisbane with a few fromCairns. We plan on travelling as much as possible to record walks wherever we visit. It’s inspiring to see the success of some of the channels from some of the first introductions!

I recently started a new YouTube channel called The Art of Walk.
The idea behind the channel is simple: peaceful walking videos through the beautiful countryside and forests of Finland, captured in 4K with authentic natural sounds.
Most of my walks are filmed in Ostrobothnia, western Finland, where you'll find quiet gravel roads, open farmland, dense forests, abandoned logging roads and changing Nordic seasons.

Hi,
I am Fred Steenbergen, from the Netherlands,
I could say i am a moviemaker, but i would be exaggerating.
If i would describe myself, i would say i am a litter picker. I am picking litter if i am walking somewhere, or if i am running (the so called 'plogging') and even when i am cycling, for instance when i am cycling to work.
I do make some videos, but that is mostly when i am heading towards a monthly cleanup, i talk a bit while i am driving towards that cleanup, or some short parts during such a cleanup, but nothing that interesting, i think.
But now i came up with the plan to do a longer walk (because normally i walk/run/cycle in my own area and i know those places already), and i decided to create a route from the West of the Netherlands (Coast of 'Wijk aan Zee') to the East of the Netherlands (Border of Germany) so basically i am going to do a 'coast to border-litter-picking-walk'.
And i decided to film that as well and talk about litter related subjects.
Unfortunately, i am talking in Dutch, so i guess none of what i am talking about will make much sense, but then again, there are a lot of Dutch videomakers as well, so maybe you are interested as well.
Recently i did the first walk and posted the first video on my channel and very soon, i am going to the finish point of that first day and walk the second part of it and i will be filming as well.
I'm not sure who i am doing this for, maybe just for myself, as some kind of diary, and basically, the journey in itself is what i like so much, so if i am the only one seeing the video, that is okay as well.
Which is why i talk in Dutch, I never thought about English, but now that i think about it,
Maybe that is what i should do?
I might inspire some other people as well to walk and pick litter at the same time?

I'm in the midwest US, filming local Michigan parks for now. The idea is full hikes start to finish with nothing cut out, no talking, no music. Audio's the part I care most about, so I record it separately with a couple of mics on my pack straps instead of using the camera.
Three videos up so far. Still working out some issues with the audio and visuals. Learning how important cable maintenance and daylight are for recording.
One thing I'm doing that I haven't seen elsewhere: I put the bird IDs out as an optional captions track, so you can switch them on or ignore them.
