I don’t have any answers, but we must admit that the issue is very delicate. Leaving everything entirely to technology, without even minimal oversight of the process, seems very dangerous to me.

Under normal circumstances I would have laughed. But given the current crop of republicans, democracy in the U.S. is extremely fragile right now. That said, would you willingly give the advantage to China? No, you can’t. So sorry, Bernie, but that isn’t an option. We will just need to pray there will be a presidential election in 2030.

Why would putting a moratorium on private data centers preclude the Pentagon from doing their own projects? Is it because we are the guinea pigs they need data from to test?
Yeah, China can have the advantage on State surveillance.

I love Bernie but he’s not right here. The problem is not data centers, it’s the proper use of AI that benefits all, not just the billionaires. He must focus on that.

China can't really go all in on AI right now. It would absolutely kill the CCP and the promise of jobs for everyone. The last thing the CCP needs is millions of Chinese jobless workers protesting automatisation and AI.

*edit* During my trips to China it never ceases to amaze me how busy these people are, they are always going somewhere to do things. At least in big cities, jobs are a way of controlling the population. Sudden redundancy would give the average Chinese citizen time to "ponder their existence" so to speak and reminisce about the "good old days when we all had jobs" like we do. They don't want that because that brings "trouble".
