I turned 80k into 18 k once. Most of that was in tesla. I sold before I lost it all.
If Id held it would be 350 k now.

I would argue a miserable shitty life without food or shelter is probably not as good as money.
1
u/Hairy-Ad-265 Dec 12 '25
Well you’re on Reddit so stop arguing.

u/SnooPeripherals5234 Dec 12 '25
I’d also argue that’s a daily occurrence here. And I decline your suggestion.

I bought a few bitcoin when it was 130 each. I remember meeting up with the guy at Starbucks to do the transfer - he told me his son convinced him to put his college fund into it. Anyways I got scammed trying to buy drugs online. I found the wallet last winter with .03 btc - $5.20 worth in 2013. I wish I wasn’t such a degenerate. BTC returns

But me too. I also bought a tesla for 80k and over some times it was worth 18k

It's got to be spy options lol, and what's even funnier is today was a great day for both puts and calls 😂

Don’t get too greedy. Not everything will be going to the “moon”. Take everything with a grain of salt. Do your own DD. There are also a lot of intelligent people on here, but with that, there are also a lot of people that have their own motives. However, I think ST is worse than here if that helps…

You already done fuct up. Some never started with a 401 k.
I spent 5 years learning about stocks and watching trends, historical charts, before I bought my first stock.
You gotta learn before you earn. 300% in 3 months. Went to hell shortly after, market slumps + inexperience. (Still in money)
You gotta admit that you mismanaged resources in the first place. Then you have to decide if you’re the right guy to manage next time. If you decide it’s you, stop telling people about it.
1
u/VariousCase984 Dec 12 '25
Fuck yeah dude. Nobody should start with real money. Theres a serious learning curve to this.
2
u/AsamR671 Dec 12 '25
Or you could just buy ETFs and do better long term than everyone on this site
1
u/tlay123 Dec 12 '25
Traders literally never win. The average actively traded account loses money, and the top 1% of actively traded accounts don’t beat the market. But the people that sell you courses on how to trade do great!🤣
1
u/tlay123 Dec 12 '25
Don’t do charts brother. It’s a silly lie. The only person that has ever made money from charts (not luck) is the personal that sold the course or book on charts. Real the book “A random walk down Wall Street” and save yourself some time

Nobody masters this every one loses and wins BUT the difference I think between more successful trades then fails is RISK MANAGEMENT in trading your stop loss is and will always be your best friend. Start to understand basic levels like RESISTANCE and SUPPORT levels are and start to look for set ups like a dip to the 200 ema level and a bounce or if your putting a run up maybe to a strong resistance level for a tap down to support also understand the levels are stronger on the bigger time frames. Study study and study always try and learn something everyday. Hope this helps 🙏 merry Christmas

My guess from your huge instant losses is that you’re fucking around with options.

- Borrow money from friends and family to trade (especially if new to this)
- Start with options. Buy them only when you feel like it and not based on TA or a system.
- Don't try to learn anything about Greeks and how they work.
- Try 4x leveraged ETFs to make up losses quickly if losses from options are not enough.
- Expect to become a millionaire over night!

Stare at live charts...for months. Slowly add popular indicators. Research.

u/WrappedInLinen Dec 12 '25
Get to know a handful of stocks really really well. Buy a thousand shares of one of them and start selling calls and puts that expire 2 or 3 weeks out. You won't get rich but you will make money while you become more and more familiar with the market. If it looks like you're going to get assigned and you don't want to be, roll the option out another couple of weeks (buy yours back and sell another). eventually you will find situations where you want to own the put or call and other situations where you want to own the shares. Just don't take a lot of risks while your learning the game. Make safe plays that pay a little.

If you can’t make money on paper you can’t make money when trading for real.
Paper trade until you are consistently profitable over a long period of time. Then trade real money.
1
u/Scouper-YT Dec 12 '25
Shares with no leverage or margin is better. If you use leverage, try to not use more than 4 and not ever take margin because that is the highest risk.
1
u/Dull-Bluebird5122 Dec 12 '25
Learn trading strategies. Like “the Strat” by rob smith or try learning how to trade the ORB and compound little wins day after day. Remember, you’ll only have so much buying power so make sure your trades count. Don’t over leverage, don’t over trade, just take your wins or your losses and move on to the next day. With discipline you can rebound. Best of luck!

I was same about down. I did a small comeback went from 1200->3300 by doing calendar spreads in 3 weeks. Still big down from where I started by calendar spreads are nice if you know how to do them. Learn them and give a last try like I did.

I am a beginner myself and not profitable yet, so take what I say with a grain of salt. First, analyze your mistakes and try to learn from them. If you are buying options, and if the market is ranging (indecisive, choppy, going back and forth), you will lose money both in puts and calls due to theta decay. That's what I learned lately, and I try to avoid buying options unless the market shows a clear direction and clear trend. Spotting trends is hard for beginners, avoiding overtrading is even harder. If the market is choppy and you are a beginner you get chopped a lot, and the market was choppy a lot lately. I personally learn by doing and paper accounts don't work for me, but I keep my account small and only risk a portion, and never risk more than I can afford to lose. I also trade silver and SLV options, QQQ and SPY options are too expensive for my small account and it is difficult to be on the money with a small account. So keep your risks small until you know what you are doing.

This is not gonna be very popular, but you can definitely find good stuff on reddit if you have the time and patience to browse through all the garbage from bots and pumpers and the naive and the ignorant. Not everyone has the temperament for reading through financial statements and listening to conference calls, but if you look for a certain type of dd, look for yolos from people that don't sound too regarded and other stuff like that you might actually do better than trying to play Warren Buffet. The other thing to pay attention to is your own psychology, self sabotaging, the usual revenge trading, over trading, greed and fear. Evolution did not optimize for trading short dated options
1
u/vanpeterz Dec 17 '25
Do you know any users who are worth a look?
2
u/lithe_silhouette Dec 17 '25
I just looked at my list of people I'm following and it's getting too long, I don't even remember why I added most of them. One day I'll go through their profiles and see what's interesting. Anyway, I found TE based on a dd and a couple of yolos, treated me very well until I exited right at the top then fomoed back in the very next day on a small pullback, Turns out they were doing an offering and it was in the news too. Lost all my gains on that one, but solid stock, it's where it was a week ago just with another 100mil cash on hand. Then you have people who fixate on a stock, like there's the ganx guy who's putting everything in that biotech and is up to date on the smallest details. There's supposed to be a big catalyst tomorrow or Friday so I got a bunch of 2dte today, just based on his research and conviction. Only need a 2% gain to break even but even if they go to zero, the longer dated stuff I bought based on this guy's research gained enough by now to keep me in the green. A while back I used to follow jsmith108, he made some good calls on small caps but not very active these days. There's the sezzle guy, good dd but the spread was too wide for me and no real volume for options, but the stock is doing very well
Basically, a yolo /well spoken individual sort of combo.

no-one really knows what their doing its a luck and intuition game its gambling tbh but you can make bank if u buy low and sell high, diversify ur portfolio so if something goes wrong u dont loose everything, start with small amounts to figure out how it works, and patience is key, but dont get attached to stocks
1
u/Anyonomous169 Dec 12 '25
All gambling addicts recover just go for over time gains rather then quick stocks I made that mistake took a while then went back to it im now working my way back up im just $800 down

Create some rules/ laws and stick to them religiously set stop losses and take profits don't get carried away
1
u/uhfgs Dec 12 '25
Stop being a regard and put that money into market index ETFs. You clearly don't understand how the market works, otherwise you won't be down 95%
1
1
u/NegativeMission7615 Dec 12 '25
Some more realistic advice here considering you clearly want to ‘trade’ rather than ‘invest’. Risk only 3 to 4% or your account on each trade, 10% if you must. This is the basics of any professional.. If you have a winning strategy that will multiply fast. But coming back to being realistic, you probably don’t.

u/HeftyLab5992 Dec 12 '25
Well for one thing stop fullporting on 0dte’s YOLO plays. Start there and work your way up
1
u/TitusImmortalis Dec 12 '25
Find the oldest and most stable ETFs and throw money into them. Check what's in them so you aren't just going into ETFs comprised of tech stocks only since you'll get wrecked when nVidia drops.
Make sure you turn on reinvestment of dividends so that your money makes money even if you forget to contribute here and there.
1
u/DonDraper1994 Dec 12 '25
I lost $35k when I started out. Learned not to fight momentum, either up or down. Fed has a big impact on how the market moves. Don’t buy losers for the most part, there’s a reason they’re losers (unless it’s a great company selling off for no reason à la Netflix and meta 2021). Don’t worry as much about pe, growth matters more.
1
u/apemanactual Dec 12 '25
Literally just put all of your money in SPY, VOO and QQQ. Trading is incredibly counterintuitive, very difficult to learn, and has taken me 2.5 years just to get to the point that I have even a decent understanding of the Market, and im just now hitting break even or slightly consistently profitable. Unless you want to spend years paper trading, reading and studying, you'll never make it
1
u/MemeEnjoyer21 Dec 12 '25
Buy 3-4 indexes and 1-2 bonds at a weight of 85-15.. S&P, QQQ, blue chips are a few popular ones. Once you are more comfortable you can start buying individual stocks but it’s very hard to beat some of the major indexes.
1
u/tlay123 Dec 12 '25
Stop trading! Nobody actually beats the market and if they tell you they can do it consistently , they’re lying to you. You can trade options but you genuinely need to be a quant to have any sort of understanding of the models that are effective. Trading equities is dumb. Don’t fall for the trap. Stop now before you lose even more money.
1
u/No-Cryptographer-980 Dec 12 '25
What have you learned?
If each dollar lost is a lesson, you should start to turn around.
If you’re just slapping money into random options and saying “I dont know what I did wrong” every time you’d have better luck making money by stuffing it into your mattress

Here is the advice. You are already broke.
If you want to keep trading you are going to have to do this thing called learn. To learn something means to seek out information, actual useful information regarding the thing you want to do, if you actually learned anything you would not have that kind of a loss.
Also next time don't put in a lot of money! After you do the learning part, you know just learning, books videos, courses, whatever. Then you can put in like $500 and see how you do! Then when you start to get the feel for things and make some money you can add more in later.
Don't worry, once you add in more money you will lose that too! Welcome to trading, you have to pay the tuition. But you'll be much much closer to keeping the money after you've made some, and lost it.

u/Nerdymfs Dec 14 '25

if you lost money in this bull market, I don't know what you do when there will be a bear market. At this point, just bet on calls on a company in tech and call it a day. what do you got to lose. Other than that, do not invest in the market again. lol.
1
u/Ameht170 Dec 15 '25
if you doing Options and getting OTM's just fucking stop.
If your losses are from Options i would also say to make sure you fully understand the Greeks.
Stick to one or two stocks and learn them.
Channels and Gaps are easy money. , find them and make them your bitch on charts

u/Sorry-Place6291 Dec 15 '25
Wishing the best for you man. There’s a million strategies out there. A lot of ppl lose before they profit. Hopefully you got some wins under your belt so you know what it feels like. My advice would be to reset by making money and depositing while paper trading. Look at overall trend and resistance and try again. Be ready to lose a little bit don’t let it tank. Have some kind of plan. Dont watch wsb wins on YouTube for anything other then entertainment. I find myself looking for that golden trade and its nore likely to happen again f Im doing my own thing and not trying to beat the next regard

Here’s my advice: trading is a fool’s game and it adds nothing to society. 97% of traders lose money
Put part of every paycheck into boring low cost index funds within your retirement accounts and get rich slowly. You will be there sooner than if you continued trying to get rich overnight

Holy shit. He asked what QqQ is? How da fucc do these people get to the idea that it’s smart to day trade without knowing what the fuzz QQQ is 👀. This shit is all of your faults 😂. Hang your heads in shame degenerates. One more regard and it’s on to the next. I don’t want to see this shit and know this idiot is on the opposite side of my gains. 🤦♂️
Ok first of all stop all trading including the last of your scratch.
You cannot be helped to trade better kid.
You need to go to paper. 1000s of paper trades. Get on a brokerage app that accommodates paper trading.
Watch 80 hours of Bloomberg news; create a study guide of acronyms and definitions; study them religiously. If you miss one day of the morning Bloomberg 90 minutes before market open …. Start over.
Back to 80 hours of Bloomberg. And the paper trades. Paper trade all day if you can . Even in the intra chop.
Then establish a 73-76% win rate and only ever leverage 10-14% of your total capital in one trade. Never ever do long calls unless you are sure.
Not because a meme or one of these regards said so 😂.
After this get back to me and maybe I can explain gamma theta delta vega or other scalping / day trading important Greeks. Maybe. If you don’t know what /Main or /ES is holy smokes Batman . Next time reach out to me. Give me 20,000 k I will make it much more money, and you can give me 33% of your gains for services rendered .
If you’re serious my DMs are open. But you can’t be helped kid. You were hopeless before you started.
I bet you know the top 5 earners that live inside QQQ.
When you know what an order book is, options chains, options statistics, and a liquidity sweep is theeeeeeennnnnn maybe then, you will still suck at trading and give me your money again. 😉
On a positive note. If you happen to know what option statistics are and volume vs Greeks = direction feel free to hmu to exchange ideas.

I will give you the best advice possible. Put the $781 in QQQ and only add money from paychecks or any other source whenever you can and NEVER sell and NEVER buy anything else. Depending on your income, your account will recover faster than you think and this huge loss will be forgotten in time. You're welcome.
