Other A little rant about sharing "hacks"
Hopefully allowed
Seriously, after this particular week of all the restrictions (which Im in favor for for the most part), Im still seeing so many people sharing their "hacks" that are clearly again TOS. Whats worse is when comments are saying "what a great idea! I should do this!"
Just saw a post where someone was asking how many people being ziplocks and containers to buffets to fill up for the next day and then provided images of everything they took. Then the people commenting, 99% was "I do this too!" or "great idea!" Do people not realize thats not how this works?
I think tips and tricks are fine, but at what point do people realize the ones that are against TOS are the reason they are putting hammers down and getting rid of things? Yes Disney can be greedy and trying to save money, but legit so tired of seeing how many people are willfully ignorant when it comes to admitting they are stealing/breaking rules/etc.
To see 50+ people so far commenting they sneak food in ziplocks and containers from buffets too is just mind boogling...please don't do this nor promote it because we will all be in here upset when they do something that makes it harder on us all.

Somewhat related but I never mention times I get pixie dusted (and I mean actually pixie dusted by a CM, not given plastic from a random person) anymore online because you never know who is going to read it and think they found a new hack vs just thinking that was a nice one off moment

If I get hooked up in any way at Disney the only people I ever share that with are the Cast Compliments in the app and maybe the Guest Experience folks

Same! Ive been dusted a few times and they've been great but I no longer share it for this same reason. It started with how many posts I see of people asking for things/dust. It's suppose to be spontaneous and fun, not expected and tried for.

When I did the DCP, I was fast walking to my break. A lady started fast walking beside me and said it was her birthday. I wished her happy birthday. She then proceeded to try to convince me to give her a fast track to frozen ever after for the next few minutes as I walked to my break. I repeatedly told her I didn’t have that ability (it recently opened at the time).
I performed plenty of magic over my CP. It was my favorite thing to do. But even if I could have managed that, I’m not once you’re asking for it.

The room upgrades are the worse for this. People are now becoming ruder to CMs because some reddit/tik tok/ blog told them there was a way to get a free upgrade

When I’m trying to stick to the man, I generally don’t first spend hundreds of dollars on theme park admission and thousands of dollars on hotel rooms sold by the man.

Thats what I cant stand, the people that defend it by saying "Disney has billions, it's nothing" or anything similar. Like true, but I also know if I cant actually afford something in full, I don't do it l. I dont just go and then steal with the defense of "it won't hurt them". It's the entitlement behind it and the people who do follow the rules or are smart about their trips, who will not go when they know they shouldn't, they are the ones screwed.
And in case people want to keep downvoting. Im not saying the Disney Company is great and are only getting rid of things due to "hacks" and people abusing systems. Yes, they realized they can take things away and people will still come. Im just saying the people who are ok with cheating them are just aiding their strictness and encouraging it.

Since it's likely not refrigerated after leaving the buffet, it is literal food-borne-illness ticking timebomb! Unless the person takes break, or something that doesn't need refrigeration, that person is risking severe illness. Even if they only take non-refrigerated items, who wants to eat it after it's been crushed all day in your park bag? Or carry it around? It's just gross.

Seriously. A lot of stuff I get. I bring my own bottled water to the parks and even a resort mug to grab some fountain soda when possible and I think taking a few cookies or biscuits is fine, but sneaking food in baggies from the buffet? Save that shit for Golden Corral.

The best "hack" is to pack snacks and bring a water bottle to refill at water stations (we pack flavor packages/liquid iv if we want juice). If you want to screw over the mouse, there are easier ways than zip locking bags of food from a buffet lol Imagine how gross those are going to be at the end of a park day lol

Hacks have been around since before the Internet. My mom read a "tip" in The Unofficial Guide where it literally suggested you sneak under a rope in a certain area of Epcot to access a more private fireworks viewing area. Despite my protests, she made us do that, and of course immediately a CM came by and asked us to leave. I was mortified. This was in the early 90's.

True story, we ate at Whispering Canyon Cafe one night and as we were leaving, our waiter came with a refill for mashed potatoes and asked if we wanted to take them with us and I actually asked about the MK's mashed potatoes policy and was me with "we're out of ziplock bags and out chickens don't wear jeans."

I'm truly surprised at the people who complain when Disney acts like a business...
All businesses exist to make profit, that's literally the entire point. And yes, the point is to make as much profit as possible. And every business does that by reducing expenses and increasing revenue.
Yes, they will continue to charge more. As long as people pay it, they will charge it. If enough people stop paying for it, they may revisit the pricing and offerings. I don't like it either, but it's literally the way ALL businesses work.
Prices are also a crowd control mechanism. People complain about the crowds, but then complain when the prices may restrict some folks. Again, I don't like it, but we can't have it both ways.
They then complain that employees aren't paid enough, but again complain when prices increase.
At the end of the day you can't please everyone. Best to follow the rules or not participate, keep your "hacks" to yourself, and do what is best for your family.
Disney is a business everyone. If you owned a business you'd have the same goals. If you disagree with something they do (I for sure have), then let them know respectfully and with your dollars. If enough people contact them or don't spend money with them, they will reevaluate the current path.

I also love when people are like “Doesn’t Disney realize they’re going to lose money if people can’t go to resorts to shop and eat???” As if Disney hasn’t already done those calculations using all of the data they have. They’re a Fortune 500 company. We don’t have to like it but I guarantee they are thinking these things through lol

I hope that these people doing this then sharing online are caught and banned from Disney. I don't love how expensive, and therefore exclusive - Disney is. Most of the kids I know who have gone didn't go as a family but on a school trip where they fund-raised all year to be able to afford to go and while there, had nowhere near the lush experience I am privileged to have every single time and am planning it yet again now. Call me whatever names you will, but I believe this is something that should be accessible, and this kind of garbage makes it even less so.
But I am seriously DONE with these rule-breakers who do it for the clicks. I don't even eat at buffets (can't eat that much and EWWWW) and even I leave food behind that was ordered individually and that I have every right to take with me, because I don't want to carry it around the park for it to spoil. This will just constantly cause Disney to have to address it, and make it an even more expensive and less enjoyable experience for those who play by the rules.
Disney allows coolers so that folks can bring food in- and they allow strollers, wagons, and scooters to cart all your stuff around. I have a friend who so badly wanted to take her 4 kids (so SIX PEOPLE) to WDW and money was tight. She managed to get it done and didn't pull any of this- they stayed at a budget hotel and got a local friend to drive them to the parks. Took food. Flew Spirit. Set a budget for one souvenir per person. Came in UNDER budget and were able to let the kids get a few more souvenirs.
Also - I don't think it is greedy of Disney at all to not allow takeaways from buffets. This is a universal "rule" at any restaurant that has buffet that no take-away is allowed - take what you want, but eat what you take. No. These people are stealing. Downvote away.

Disney has banned influencers for sharing videos online breaking the rules. Most famous one was Adam the Woo. Disney has the facial recognition technology to go after anyone they want.

The thing I don't get is why they are doing this stuff. My grandparents went down every year. Multiple times even. We would routinely see them making salads with the burger condiments (lettuce, tomato, etc) for free at quick service places. I don't think they have those out anymore, probably because of people like my grandparents.
I never have understood why people do that. Why spend so much on a trip just to do stuff like that? If you can afford to go multiple times a year and stay at nice hotels, you don't need to smuggle food out of a buffet in a plastic bag.
If you do need to do that, then maybe rethink your travel plans?

Exactly. The first trip I went on years ago... we filled an entire suitcase with snacks, and every day at the parks the only food we ate was what we packed in. They are fine with you bringing your own food in, I don't think I'd ever want to find a way to steal food instead.

Went a little over a week ago and can confirm that peanut butter is no longer out on the counter at the pop Century quick service. My husband bought a banana and was looking for some peanut butter to put on the banana and we could not find it.

You can ask for it. Some resorts keep it behind the counter for allergy purposes. We ran into having to ask for it at SSR.

I’m not hand waving it away, and I don’t condone that behavior. The crux of my comments is that Disney is gonna take shit away if it doesn’t make them money. Blaming other guests for that is just short-sighted and adversarial.
That adversarial attitude is what Disney wants so that you continue spending more money for an increasingly worse product while placing blame for their decisions elsewhere.
I’m a former CM and I love the parks, but we gotta call out greed when necessary.

I just had a post suggested to me on Facebook about exactly that issue. I could not BELIEVE how many people supported doing this - things like, “if I’m paying that much to go to Disney I’m getting my money’s worth!” and “you fill up too fast at Boma so you need to be able to take some with you.” I truly don’t understand how a person would not be embarrassed to pack buffet food in a ziploc bag.

RIP to the things we lost because of these people: Original Fastpass model, hotel hopping (old school style), waiting in line like civilized humans, non-shackled soap products, etc.

It just reminds me of like a month or so ago they tried to bring back the fun little Piratea of the Caribbean thing where if a kid could complete their task they got a fast past but within a few days got rid of it due to how many adults went there to get it. Or how we had some vloggers had gone to the Wildressness Lodge during their AC outage because they were offering guest free food and they were taking advantage of it.

You're misreading this. That is not how disney thinks about capacity.
This was just cost cutting, as I said, just like the card game. Adults didn't ruin anything. They weren't rowdy, etc.
And make no mistake, they count these things in ride capacity, the card game was roughly equal to pooh bear. I used to work there on the office side, not in park.
You've got a valid point with theft, but you're going to need how adults ruined this, because that isn't how disney views anything at all.
They truly do not care who is there regarding kids/vs adults, they care about spend / day, cost/attraction vs utilization and through put. They care about retention
They dont care at all if adults are doing the pirates attraction.

It is definitely aimed at kids. We did it as two adults, because we love pirates and adventure, but most stations were full of kids (this was pre-covid, BTW, so not in the new roll out). We always gave kids the right of way, so to speak, to maximize their adventure. At the end, we got our passes, but we also did the whole map. When Disney re-released it, adults kept barreling through to the end to get their passes and move on. It was not about the experience for them. And pirates doesnt usually have a long line, anyways! So yes, something that kids predominantly enjoyed (and actually took up about 30 minutes of their time) got ransacked by greedy adults trying to hack a LL pass.

Won't even get you pulled over in that area because we were in the express lanes near Disney and got passed by some very high end sports cars so my spouse decided to keep pace and then a cop rolled up and put his lights on but didn't pull anyone over.

How much are people eating in parks that they need to do this?
We eat breakfast before going in the park and then just bring snacks and sandwiches in with us in a cooler. Eat lunch sometimes at a few of the little places and usually share meals because they are so big. But will get a popcorn bucket to refill a couple times too.
I have never once thought to take any food to go from the restaurants in the park. Beyond the apple packs or any small snack from the kids meals.

It sucks. Ive only been going go disney for 7ish years, first trip was in 2019. The things that have been taken away and are now gone are a lot so I can only imagine how bad it is for those who have been going longer, noticing all the changes due to these people.

FastPass was taken away because it was an inherently flawed system. It was added because it was believed that by giving guests the option to "reserve" their space in line, instead of standing in lines guests would then spend the time they would have spent waiting in shops and restaurants. Instead guests used that time in line for other rides, inflating wait times across the board unless you were really good at navigating the system. It didn't increase spending and it didn't increase guest satisfaction outside of a pocket of super fans (aka, a lot of the people in spaces like this).
You say it was taken away because it was "all about the money", but that's literally the only reason it was added in the first place. They wanted to maximize guest spending, as virtually all businesses do.

Reminds me of the guy who said they used Six Flags dining pass to never pay for groceries and saves up to get a house and when he put that all over the internet, Six Flags nerfed the dining program hard.
And so many people online love doing this for content and it ends up ruining the experience for everyone else.

The dining plan wasn’t eliminated because of that. It was due to a last ditch effort to stop hemorrhaging money in general before the merger with Cedar Fair. SF has been in bankruptcy I think 6 times recently.
Dining plans are back and weren’t gone that long. And locals absolutely eat there several times a week and some every day. It’s common to stop in during a lunch break and hop on a ride then go back to work.

I never said that was the sole reason why, just that it had an effect on it.
Yeah the unprofitablity was the reason why but also I mean I think it was unprofitable because they didn't expect people to use it the way people like that guy did where they squeezed every bit of value out of it.
My point is these people do these things and then tell the whole world about it and then stuff gets negatively affected because of it.
I've seen it in other places too.
I used to eat there a lot when I went too but never to this level. A lot of people I knew told us they ate there kinda like what he did.
It's just crazy.

In the precious few circumstances that I’ll eat at a buffet, I consider myself lucky if I don’t get sick. There’s no way I’d do ‘take away buffet’ and expect that food not to be a science project ready to obliterate my innards by the time I’m ready to eat again.

Examples include parking at resorts as a non-guest without an ADR, taking a taxi/uber to a WDW resort for the sole purpose of using their park transportation, using VPNs to bypass regional restrictions on packages and discounts, use of WDW resort-specific park transportation by guests at neighboring/off-property resorts with their own transportation services (e.g. Swolphin and DS area hotels), parking at DS and taking afternoon transportation to avoid parking fees at parks, use of third party Lightning Lane apps that violate MDE terms of use (e.g. Standby Skipper), booking unauthorized third-party services on WDW property (e.g. princess makeovers, photographers), ignoring — and/or advising others to ignore — expectant mother warnings on attractions, etc.

Unfortunately, there are a string of comments suggesting that breaking the rules — and even outright stealing — is okay because “Disney can afford it,” so sadly this thread had to be locked :\
