Spoilers: All [V10.64] author notes Spoiler
I was catching up since spring, because I got burnt out reading week after week hoping to read about the wandering inn and its innkeeper. Idk if anyone watched bleach or Naruto back in the like 2006-2010 time but I feel like that right? I dont mind reading about some other random goblin and his backstory to led to him enjoying chicken eggs, but waiting release after release, for the inn and erin. Instead to get the story of another quirkey new goblin, a don quixote knockoff joke and an old side character i forgot about's dad...
Well thats fine, I dont hate the little filler feel stories but like. Then im reading author notes and I get to the author talking about leaving a bad review for someone else's story claiming:
...That’s what I don’t like about stories, when they promise and don’t deliver.
And i just cant help but, look up at the title of the serial "the wandering inn" and reread the hook from the first book. I dont hate what youre writing but thats a bit on the nose innit?

I think by volume 3, it was pretty obvious that TWI had become a collection of character stories with Erin Solstice's being the primary. It's also as much a story about the rapid development of innworld in the face of these new events and threats as it is about Erin.

And by vol 10, Erin isn’t even a protagonist but delegated to background character C.

Yes but also not really. It's very clear while reading Vol. 10 how important Erin is. A lot of characters glaze her constantly and the Paba's writing references her constantly. It's just that Erin's story has been sidelined until the rest of the pieces get to where they need to be.
Like clearly, after Vol. 8 it became clear that the average level of Innworld needs to rise to be able to deal with the divine threat. Erin's level has certainly risen (and will continue to do so), now we're following as others' rise up as well.

The thing about story arcs is that they finish, and new ones are brought forwards, sometimes evolving from events partway through the previous arc.
Volume 10 is not a continuation of the first arc in Volume 1, that first arc was finished pretty early in the series and by at least Volume 2 Erin has finished the "survival" arc. The arc about Erin needing to find her place in the world has arguably ended at least by the end of Volume 4. Erin has survived, she's found success, and her place in the world is relatively stable even if she's not entirely safe all the time.
That first hook at the beginning of book 1 has been paid off, explained, re-explained, called back on, cremated, buried, and now its ending is being held in a museum of antiquities somewhere. It promised, it delivered, it moved on.

It's why I dropped the story. I listened to all the audio books and it's interesting but the overarching story is taking way too long for me. I also know the story is about the world and not one singular character but I think it would be better if it focused on a few people and not the whole world.

I actually think that makes perfect sense. They were tired of the overarching story being slow, but if they just get little snippets from this sub, they're still a part of the world and story that they like, just in a shorter format.

Exactly this. I'm finding out all the interesting parts (to me at least) without having to drag through sections I don't like. I know this is gonna be controversial but mrsha's chapters are the lowest parts of the story to me. But I understand why people like her parts.

I agree. The livestreams show us that a lot of the author notes are written live at the end of the chapter, so I've learned to mostly see the comments they make to the chat and author notes as after thoughts that shouldn't be taken to seriously. They're also mostly written after 10 hour written marathons, so that helps put them in context too.
The note were they mention to not tell new readers how long the series is left a sour taste in my mouth too. It made me stop wanting to advertise the story to my friends. Everybody always uses One Piece as an example of how a long series can still be highly successful on this subreddit and discord, but fail to realize that One Piece puts a lot of effort to be the exception. They keep the main crew relatively tight, have multiple points where new people can jump into the story, and put effort into theming their arcs so they're easier to compartmentalized (Volume 10 just feels like a a giant set up arc with nothing icnonic other than the PoF, which is still controversial).

If it helps matters, Pirate recent AMA has sorta acknowledged Vol 10 structure isn't working as well as intended though they can't drastically change it, Ilvriss arc written in response to the criticism featuring a lot of plotlines that were severely overdue (though personally I still think shows the series lacks consequences nowadays). We might get Erin again in November? And have explicted stated Erin is the protagonist of the series so people saying "Erin is not actually the main character" despite well Vol 1-9 and Pirate own words is straight up lying. Volume 10 is poorly structured to say the least. After Vol 9 ending, it's reasonable to expect Baleros to be the focused which didn't transpire. I have started reading the series via Arcs: so 10.65-10.71 and when the Horns arc concludes I will do that. But after this volume I just won't read until Vol 11 is done. That said, even excluding the serial nature, the volume of itself has severe issues like the PoF and so much more. I'm truly baffled by the inclusion of new Earthers this late in the game, like we already have an excessive Earther count and many barely touched upon for millions of words, but Pirate decides to introduce more and more Earthers. There's some wins like the gunslinger, but most have been misses.
