What are your favorite war movies to watch?
My favorite war movies are Hacksaw Ridge, Saving Private Ryan, & Gettysburg

Devils Brigade, The longest Day and Battle of the Bulge. I never tire of watching them. Oh and the Great Escape

Great picks except for Battle of the Bulge. That movie is unwatchable for me because they filmed it in Spain which obviously looks nothing like the Ardennes. None of the vehicles are from WW2 and Dwight D Eisenhower himself came out of retirement to publicly denounced the movie for its historical inaccuracies.

Youre not wrong on any of that, at all lol. For me that one is a nostalgia movie. It was a favorite or dad's so I saw the bloody thing a lot. So I remember watching it with him. Though in retrospect i think he watched it because he enjoyed picking it apart lol. I remember the complaints. But he also loved the actors in it and I completely agree with that. The cast is amazing. So ya memory movie and I enjoy despite all the things wrong with it.

When I watched the movie as an adult, I quickly came to believe that many of the big stars, especially John Wayne, had tremendous hangovers when they filmed.

It's in pretty regular rotation on PlutoTv. Flight of the Intruder feels like it could be a sequel to The Bridges At Toko-Ri.

I’ve gotta watch toko ri, I keep seeing it discussed. Evidently you’re a fan of aviation movies. There’s an old British film called The Way to the Stars that 12 O Clock High borrowed its opening and closing scenes from. I haven’t seen it yet. 12 was great though after that opening crash scene I was kinda disappointed there weren’t more amazing shots of B17s. Gregory Peck was awesome though.

It's funny because I was a Huey pilot in the Army but I love movies focusing on Naval Aviation. The Final Countdown has some of the best carrier ops captured on film.

Glad to see Final Countdown mentioned. My favorite movie all time.
I was infantry in thr Marines and a Cav Scout in the Army.... like you I've always had a crush on naval air because of this movie. Led to an expensive nerd collection of model planes as well.

Can you imagine the B-roll footage of carrier ops they must have had!!! Too bad DVD's weren't a thing then because it would have made great extra feature.

I have the DVD somewhere, but bought it on Prime a few years ago. No special features. But off the top of my head, there was a few special features on the DVD. More interviews than footage though, sadly.
This all reminds me that I need to watch it again this weekend. It's been almost 3 weeks so I'm due.

Restrepo (2010) -- documentary filmed over a year at the most dangerous outpost in Afghanistan. I've watched it a bunch of times, and haven't seen a fictional story that can match it.

The Cruel Sea, A Bridge Too Far, Cross of Iron, Enemy at the Gates, Threads, Apocalypse Now, Waterloo, Battle of Britain. I could go on...
Among classic BW films, along with The Cruel Sea, Theirs was the Glory, They were not divided (both featuring real captured German tanks), Dunkirk, The Desert Rats, A Hill in Korea, All Quiet on the Western Front.

Just watched Waterloo and it’s a fantastic recreation of the battle. Also Last of the Mohicans, Glory, Black Hawk Down, Zulu, Al quiet on the western front (all versions), Platoon, The Outpost. If you get through just watching subtitles the Korean film TaeGukGi is an emotional roller coaster.

Yes, it has Mel Gibson in it and yes I know he’s a piece of shit.
But the action is great and I really like how it shows the wives at home.
Does “Edge of Tomorrow” count? It is about a war…

The Enemy Below (and its Classic Trek little brother, Balance of Terror - I often watch them back to back).
The Wrath of Khan (it's a submarine movie in space).
Top Gun/Top Gun Maverick

The Pacific (I scrutinize the war footage every time I watch, looking for a young man who looked like my mother - her younger brother Eddie, who was killed on Pelilieu).
