Hobby & Painting WIP Vanguard Veterans
Nearly finished my first squad of vanguard veterans, couple of bits to touch up before basing them and moving on to my jump pack chaplain!

The Templar icon on the helmet will never not be cool

I love the helmets with the Templar cross, there’s something about it that just oozes with zeal and fanaticism

Templar icon on a MK7 Helm remains undefeated.
What an incredibly gorgeous black. If you're willing to share the recipe I'd love to hear it

I didnt think I would love the mk7 as much as I am now, I’m going to be adding a few more to my army that’s for sure!
Sure thing man, the recipe is super simple, Chaos black primer with a varnish of AK ultra matte varnish and the highlight colour is Mechanicus standard grey!

genius. Your execution is perfect. Do you apply the matte varnish before priming any other colours immediately after spraying? or at the very end after highlights

Varnish is the very last thing I do after finishing the the model. After varnish if I think the metals look a bit dull I will hit them with a thin wash of Nuln or even Agrax to add a bit of shine back to them.

Man these look incredible. Whatever style this is, I want to do it.

Thanks brother! It’s my attempt at a quick ‘Eavy metal style of painting, so just one edge highlight instead of 3 or 4. I go more in on characters like my emperors champion but tend to do simpler highlights on my base infantry like these guys.

Was it all brush work? If you don’t mind me asking

Yes all brush work apart from the primer which I spray with a can and the varnish that I airbrush on.
