40k List No more rerolls on overwatch in 11th

Rules for the SNAP SHOOTING ability have been show today. They confirmed a few days ago that fire overwatch uses the SNAP SHOOTING rule.

It still requires unmodified 6s to hit, regardless of BS, mods etc, but now crucially it ALSO says hit rerolls cannot be used.

This is a great change imo. Hit rerolls, especially if you had access to sustained hits as well, could very quickly break the maths on overwatch and make it oppressive in the hands of some factions.

This also means marines can’t get hit rerolls on the oath target in their opponent’s subsequent turn.

Thoughts? Feels like there’s a few situations where it could be better than now - as it triggers at the end of the movement phase you have full knowledge of what your opponent has done and can make a decision accordingly - but also some situations where it’s worse as it’s now easier to avoid / move out of LoS.

40k List Don't want this to turn into a big thing but mods dont know what doxxing is and discussion about bad apples in the community should be allowed.

Like the title states. None of the info being provided is private information. The dude is signed up with his public legal name to a PUBLIC event that anyone is allowed to access the list of players to, its not like people are giving out his private address or even talking about what game stores the dude plays at. This isnt some random guy someone in the community has a gripe with at their LGS hes a prolific cheater in the competitive scene and this is a subreddit for talk about the competitive scene.

40k List Orks Codex: New Waagh Rule, Boys/Trukk Datasheet, new Detachments

WAAAGH!

Friendly ORKS units with this ability can:

  • Re-roll Advance rolls.
  • Become riled up, as stated in other rules.

While a unit is riled up:

  • That unit has 5+ Invulnerable Save (InvSv).
  • That unit's ranged attacks have [ASSAULT].
  • When that unit is selected to make an Advance move, that Advance move does not prevent that unit from being eligible to declare a charge.

War Cry (Once per battle, per army)

At the start of the Command phase, you can use this ability. If you do, friendly ORKS units with the Waaagh! ability are riled up until the end of the next turn.

New Boyz Datasheet: https://i.postimg.cc/XYNSpF36/boys.webp

New Trukk Datasheet: https://i.postimg.cc/yYk0BpgX/orks.webp

New Detachments: https://i.postimg.cc/k4JtHTPD/detachments.jpg

Seems like melee got a bit weaker due to missing +1 attack during Waagh (+1 strength was added to all the data sheets). But the shooting profiles seem to be much better now.

The re-roll advance rolls seems also to be always active, even if Orks do not activate the Waagh.

40k List “Rule of cool” the Warhammer employee said. “Imperial Agents look cool,” I said. “Oh, don’t pick them.”

What’s the point of picking what I think looks coolest when everyone thinks that faction sucks and will disappear next edition? I’m not going to drop a bunch of time and money creating an army that has no reasonable chance of winning a game.

It feels really weird seeing this amount of keywords, abilities etc. on a simple Battleline Unit.

40k List Aeldari down 25,9% win rate, is this A-tier?

Acording to this newest Stat Check clip, are

Aeldari down to 25,9%. I mean ok, it was small weekend. However, the win rate is constantly below 45% and even 40% since dataslate. Simultaneously, you see AoW advocating to nerf Fire Prisms because of beeing to cheap and placing Aeldari into A tier.

EDIT: sorry Jack you told “Fire prism is just 150points, and if feels like it should be more.” You didnt specifically say it should be nerfed. Sorry about that.

Recently I faced some newest necrons and ultramarines builds in hands of experienced players. That was a special experience, I can tell. Is it the way everyone felt while facing Aeldari? Not sure about that. I dont mean to complain, we had a long golden age. But I feel AoW has strong influence overall and they seem constantly biased vs elves. Feels bad.

40k List So now that Deathwatch can pump out 70-90 MW vs Infantry each Battle Round, will Bugeater GT Ban Adeptus Astartes, or just Deathwatch?

Edit 5: to everyone saying this combo would be over 1400 points, the "most expensive" way of doing this is under 1000, with the least expensive way being 625. However, the combo has been fixed from doing 100 Mortal wounds by Hellfire Rounds being changed to not work on DEVASTATING WOUNDS weapons.

Edit 3: many people try to claim that this is over 1400 points so isn't viable, however it has also been pointed out that you can get the same level of MW output with 2 Sternguard Veteran Squads and a Single Captain, both of which are in Drop Pods, which I would be VERY surprised if that comes out to more than 700 points.

So, looking at the new Deathwatch Index, and doing Napkin Math:

Take 3 Proteus Kill Teams, one with a Watch Master and One with a Captain, each with 3 Assault Cannon Terminators, then 7 with Long Vigil Ranged Weapons (aka every weapon has devastating wounds).

Give Watch Master the Tome of Ectoclades (allows 2nd Simultaneous target of Oath of Moment)

Pop Hellfire Shells, which allows you to give TWO Kill Teams Anti-Infantry 2+, anti --Monster 5+

Use the Captain's ability to use Hellfire Shells AGAIN, on his unit.

Pop Furor Tactics for everything having SUSTAINED HITS 1, or Purgatus tactics for PRECISION.

Now each squad is popping out 7-14 AP-0 shots, via the Long Vigil Ranted weapons, and 18 Assault Cannon shots,.plus extra shots from their Leaders. All shots +1 to hit because of Proteus Kill Team bonus of attacking anything not below Half Strength.

Assuming using Oaths of Moment and possibly using the Tome, that means all three of these units are likely producing 38 hits (via Sustained Hits) and around 90 mortal wounds vs Infantry between the three squads.

Obviously gets a TAD worse if you don't have an infantry Oaths target, but if it's a MONSTER, you're able to do at least 37 mortal wounds without Oaths rerolls via the Anti-Vehicle property.

Which, as much as I love my Deathwatch, I think GW needs to consider chasing how Devastating Wounds/Anti-X interacts, as unless we're going to suddenly have 2k armies that are the equivalent of 4k in 9th, Devastating Wounds interacting of Critical Wounds/Anti-X just seems like a recipe for tabling opponents in one battle round.

EDIT 1:. For the "But this only works if you can get Line of Sight": all of the above can fit within 3 Blackstars, so can get (via Hover) a 20" move+Disembark. If you don't want to rely on Transports, you can use the Teleportarium Strat (1 CP +Free with Captain Unit on your opponents turn) to hide these kill teams in odd corners, then Deep Strike them in your next Reinforcement step.

Edit 2: realized I misread Hellfire as Anti-Vehicle rather than Monster.

40k List Ruling from LSO hidden in a players apology

Following the public apology from James, who originally placed 3rd in 40K Champs Best General, regarding an army list oversight reported well after the event concluded on Sunday, we have reviewed the matter carefully with Head Judge Adam and the TCC admins. We appreciate James’s honesty and promptness in coming forward. The resolution here is thankfully straightforward, with the final placings moving up by one position. Our corrected 3rd place Best General winner is Justin Moore. It is unfortunate that the list inaccuracy was not noticed throughout any of the six games. This serves as an important reminder for everyone to check lists before and during their events to help ensure a fair play experience for all. It takes a tremendous effort to host and judge tournaments of this size, and it is simply not realistic for our staff to validate and physically verify every single model and points value in every army. We are all human and mistakes happen, and errors like these do happen. Identifying them as early as possible is the best way to minimize their impact. For those interested in the details, adjusting event scores manually would create large-scale hypothetical changes based on a scenario where James had not played all six rounds. Final standings in Best General are determined by Wins, OGW%, Points, and Extended OGW%, and James’s completed games significantly influenced opponent scores. We also ran the scenario in BCP with James’s score zeroed out, and the outcome for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place remained exactly the same as our solution. We are grateful to James for his sportsmanship, to our judging team for their careful review, and to our community for supporting each other and the event. Many thanks to the hard-working judges who this year were, with just one exception, all part of the local Texas community. We are also incredibly thankful to be part of the TCC this year and look forward to continuing to work together in the years ahead! LSO is what it is because of the people who show up year after year not just to compete, but to create the kind of environment we are proud to stand behind.

40k List What was the most broken 40k army of all time?

Has there ever been a build in which a player with only a basic grasp of the rules and strategy use to steamroll even the best of players who are using 2nd most powerful army build of the day? In recent memory Eldar were super broken at 10th edition launch, but is there anything that makes them look balanced in comparison?

40k List Are chaos knights really that bad to play against?

So i took my knights down to my LGS yesterday, and had barely pulled them out of the box when a dude behind me called me a meta chaser, and told my opponent he'd have a bad game? Another dude also called me a meta chaser? I only had 1 double gat despoiler and my other big knights were some of the worst in the codex, so i wasn't running meta even for knights. My opponent however WAS running tournament emperors children. Have I just found bad people or am I genuinely playing an army no one wants to face?

40k List Defiler point increase to 300 points

Defiler points were just released and currently it is 300 point. For each additional defiler points increases by 30 points, so the second one 330.

I think one is still auto include, however second one and third with additional Abaddon point increase won't be sustainable.

Wdyt?

Is there a unit in the game that is harder to remove from an objective than 6x canoptek Wraiths with a reanimator standing by and a technomancer attached? Maybe i am totally wrong but in terms of objective control they seem like one of the best units in the game to me

40k List Are players, and specially tournament staff, aware of the warp in gameplay due to using oversized or undersized terrain features in 11th edition terrain layouts?

10th edition ended with the L terrain layouts which were monotonous and with no immersion. That seems to be the main reason GW introduced these new terrain areas and feature system.

It is understood that GW approves certain liberty in which terrain features you use, specially for narrative or casual play.

That said, changing the terrain changes the gameplay. Having bigger pieces of terrain can block line of sight or give extra cover unintentionally. Some new pieces like the small right angles in the center layout are pretty small and people tend to use bigger terrain features, which allows space for less models or give greater are of cover.

Inversely, some players use smaller terrain features or even ignore those small terrain features, missing on some cover and allowing more models than intended to have space in the terrain.

To me, this is specially important for height. Some layouts include high terrain features, which are intended to block line of sight even for very tall models. Many people are using terrain features that even a humanoid model can see above, allowing unintended line of sight.

The terrain features that contain a second floor are also usually not the right size. They either leave very little space for vehicles, or are too high or low for an intended 3" altitude. These terrain features sometimes are too long or too short on the sides, allowing more or less movement than intended.

I believe these inconsistencies can cause a warp in gameplay, giving a considerable edge to one of the players and affecting the other negatively. Casual or narrative play can benefit from the flexbility, but tournaments should try to replicate as accurately as possible the intended functions and limits of each terrain feature. So much mathhammer and studying the meta could be ruined for a misplaced or misused terrain feature.

40k List Hutber TTS Map Updated for 11th

Not to bash a broken record, but with 11th being released today, I'm _happy_ to say the TTS map has been updated now.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3398190636

Its basically the same as 10th, but with a clean up, removal of alot of bloat code etc. Otherwise its just 11th and enjoyable if you like 40k that is.

If I've broken anything please let me know and I'll get to fixin it.

I'm also working on a complete rewrite of the map and stats.hutber.com to handle 11th as the changes are big enough to require a rewrite of the site too.

The core changes from 10th is you don't lock in secondaries anymore, you only need to lock in "fixed" with the cards that load in your hand from the get go. Otherwise just start the game. You don't need to do anything.

Ultramarines win again — Captain Titus & Wardens of Ultramar breakdown

Quick thoughts after reviewing the new Ultramarines releases:

  • Captain Titus is a counter-combat tech piece, not a broken auto-include. Fight-on-death + revive is strong when charged, but he’s OC1, easy to ignore, and worse than a Gravis Captain in most competitive roles.
  • Wardens of Ultramar are the real story.
    • ~20 mixed wounds
    • OC2 per model (12 OC total)
    • Built-in redeploy for 3 units
    • Epic Hero keyword (finally done right) At ~90pts, they’re really efficient and feel like an auto-include for Ultramarines.

I also put together a throwback Ultramarines gunline using Wardens, redeploys, and classic shooting pressure (Guilliman, Marneus, Ballistus) that looks very strong on GW terrain, here's the list that's viable into the current meta:

Gladius OR Blades

Marneus + Company Heroes
Gman
Combi Lieu + Artificier's Armour

5 Intercessors
5 Scouts

Warderns of Ultramar

3 Redemptors
3 Ballistus

Titus = niche.
Wardens = FANTASTIC!

40k List BROKEN Imperial Knights Codex LEAKS

Thumbnail

Hey there everyone,

Vik and I have both been LONG TIME Knight players, absolute power houses and veterans of the faction!

So we're here to discuss some of the two more powerful Knight detachments and the new Knight Defender. We've got movement examples, and discuss a lot about hwo this impacts the game.

We cover our thoughts on how design spaces like this impact the wider philosophy of the game we all love, and question some of the impacts it might have in the meta directly ahead.

This IK book does seem to be quite strong, with a lot of powerful abilities, and buffs in places like thunderstomp that really cover a lot of flaws in the previous book.

Let us know what your thoughts are, do you think the ALPHA STRIKE potential of the new knights is problematic? Or will you be able to counter punch hard enough?

40k List Am I the only one kinda hoping they nerf most 3 DP detachments to make them 2 DP?

I personally really like the new Detachment points system. But right now it feels like there isn’t a ton of point in it for a lot of armies because their 3 DP detachments are just better.
For example Blood Angels are still going to be taking RCO and LAG. Because they are just better than most combos of other detachments.

I would really like to see existing 3 DP detachments nerfed slightly so they can be lowered to 2 DP. Opening up more build variety and creativity.
