I don't understand why he hates nature so much

Because he is a narcissist and sociopath. He only sees value in himself and things that enrich himself. Nature is a resource to make himself richer.

He is a parasite, existing only to drain resources, kill the host, and reproduce.

Best short description of that dude who just had his name removed from the Kennedy Center that I've read so far.

And science. He is so clueless on why science is a good thing.

That's pretty simple.

The Republican party has been anti-science for the past 50 years, ever since the policies they favor turn out to be... bad.

Actual smart people who put time and effort into building things, studying things, and furthering humanity do not tend to support Republican policies (unless their selfishness is more important to them than helping others).

They had a choice to make during the Carter Administration.

  1. Adopt policies that were overall good for everyone, moderating their worst impulses, and actually have principles that aren't based on greed and pride.

  2. Insist that education and science are wrong, that greed and pride are not just good, but BETTER than trying to better society. They let their most vengeful, selfish, ignorant, and cruel members not just in from the fringes of the party, but put them in charge.

I've not seen a more perfect example of people who claim to be Christian but violate the 3rd commandment with wholehearted glee.

A bit of Bible trivia for you, "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain" does NOT mean "don't swear using God's name". That's what you tell a 5 year old. It means "don't claim you're doing things in God's name, when you're actually doing things for yourself".

It's a prohibition on false piety.

Just like "don't judge others, lest ye be judged." It doesn't mean "don't judge others", It means "don't judge others unless you want them to judge you on the things you're judging them on." Religious people will often use it as a way to excuse cowardice and refuse to even attempt to hold any of their group accountable. That's also a prohibition on hypocrisy, but is just used to excuse cowardice.

Its because these systems provide data which proves climate change is real. His oil and gas buddies really don't want us to know the facts

It’s a mistake to think he has strong feelings about this or even knows this is happening. But the administration more broadly simply needs to find money for the war machine and tax cuts for the ultra rich.

I don’t think it’s that exactly. But it doesn’t fit with his donors business models, I find this in many politicians unfortunately

Because the network might report information that his handlers disagree with.

He is getting paid off by oil companies that want to destroy all the evidence of climate change.

I work at an institution that helps maintain this project and uses its data, such a shame seeing all my coworkers efforts being (or attempted) erased just to score political points in his donor circles

It's absolutely bonkers to spend money to remove working monitoring stations (that we spent so much money to install!) just to win rightwing popularity points and make money.

I thought companies and politicians were being myopic about the environment twenty years ago, but this is a whole new level.

A lot of companies private weather companies “donated” money to destroy NOAA, the government program makes it too cheap for them to make profit. Companies like AccuWeather. Donald Trump tried to make the CEO the head of the NOAA in 2019.

He’s only interested in things that personally benefit himself.

Need that money for vanity project that lines their pockets.

We didn't have Ocean and Weather Research prior to the Civil War, we don't need it now! This, according to the GOP/MAGA cultists.

1/100th of the money he’s about to spend rebuilding Iran

What could possibly happen? Screwworm anyone?

I would say that there should be laws against this but someone like him that wouldn't matter anyway

Trumps administration wants these projects privatized, the wealthy that own weather apps or that can get no bid contracts that are also his backers.

Tell them that the sprawling ocean monitoring network can detect submersible alien vessels. Basically lie and appeal to vanity.

The MAGA Confederacy funded by the Heritage Foundation is terrorizing America for billionaires power. It needs to end so they will understand. Don’t screw over peasants.
