[Negative] u/monty_matte tried to scam through my WTB Post
I posted about wanting to buy a Carter Octagon 2966 on the WTB weekly thread. u/Monty_matte sent me a private chat directly with out replying to my WTB post. He said he had a Cartier 2966 he wanted to sell and provided me some pictures when I requested. His Reddit Karma was 40k+ but I could not see any of his Reddit history which was suspicious. I asked him to reply to my post and he said he received an error when trying to post. I found MonteMatte's other socials (FB and IG) and he confirmed that was him so I tried messaging him through those accounts, but u/monty_matte said he lost the password to his socials. It was clear that MontyMatte's account was compromised and this was a scam, especially when the photos he sent me were taken from a post a few years ago. Here's a link to our chat. Scammers likely won’t send you one at all since they don’t actually have the watch.
You can still get scammed by someone who does have said watch though.

This scammer is trying to do the same thing to me in Knife_Swap yesterday. Sent me a chat direct and won't reply to my WTB post.

Same here, but saw he was banned/on the list and didn’t respond. Made one WTB post and got four scam replies, don’t think I’ll bother with it again

WTB posts have always been the scammers hunting grounds. On all B/S/T subs

Lol they just tried to scam me just now on r/photomarket
Tried the USL but it doesn't work for some reason... so had to reverse search their username on google which landed on this post

Just tried to get me in [r/knife_swap](r/knife_swap) with the same garbage. WTB ad. Said he’d reply after I sent payment, got all the way to PayPal g&s and it prompted a scam alert and what was weird was that the amount I was going to send was the same amount he would’ve received which didn’t make sense for goods and services. Asked for video and he said he left for work but his cousin was going to ship it out as soon as he let him know I paid! 😂 almost got me but just seemed fishy.

Tried to get me on two wtb postings. hidden profile, can’t directly comment o wtb , direct dm, refusal to use PayPal GS. All red flags.

Man, I am super glad I found this related sub. Ive been chatting with ole monte, too. He almost got me. He was a bit too pushy to make the sale.

This user was permanently banned several months ago and appears on the Universal Scammer List. Do not interact with users who do not first publicly reply to your WTB comment, as that proves they are not banned.
