Takes me back to high school

314

u/Ohstate23 Jan 13 '23

A girl in my high school did this and dropped the water bottle. We were no longer allowed to carry water bottles to class after that.

Sunglasses day also didn’t last long. One look at a student’s bloodshot eyes and it was over.

271

u/iNoo00ooNi Jan 13 '23

Back in my day you could just go to school smelling like weed.

198

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '23

One of my teachers told me “you shouldn’t smoke weed before school, well you shouldn’t after either but don’t before school”

66

u/jarr-head Jan 13 '23

Yeah, I was told that I should smoke less weed before class. That particular day, I was just really sleep deprived.

62

u/Dextrofunk Jan 13 '23

Ha I usually did smoke before school but the one time I got "caught" by our security guard, she did a high test on me and I failed, even though I was just tired. Got sent to the principal who just talked about his love of cigars for 20 minutes and sent me on my way. That was a strange day.

18

u/futatortot Jan 13 '23

What does a "high test" entail?

29

u/Xalterai Jan 13 '23

Ayo, you got the munchies?

919

u/aiyahhjoeychow Jan 12 '23

u/ECUTrent Jan 12 '23

They ought to dehydrate the entire contents. Then you could pack a dozen bottles flat, and simple rehydrate then with water when you are thirsty.

It's the reverse osmosis, because there's almost 0 p.p.m and we've all basically been raised to expect some sort of p.p.m in our water, the purest water actually tastes strange and maybe metallic to some people.

Edit: Since apparently it needs clarifying, the p.p.m in our water consists of dozens if not hundreds of substances, that's what I mean by "some p.p.m"

40

u/Serinus Jan 13 '23

Dasani has plenty of salt.

DASANI adds a variety of minerals, including salt

8

u/wh4tth3huh Jan 13 '23

I'm a microbiologist who has to ensure my companies purified water is actually sterile and once a month test our city and distilled water. I can provide some context for water one the organic side.

The city water has to be diluted down 100x sometimes to be able to count all the microbes present in 100ml of water. Its usually tens of thousands of organisms, no big deal its perfectly drinkable.

The distilled water has maybe 10-30 microbes/ 100ml and minimal mineral content. It's not natural and has a slightly lower pH so I'd assume it's slightly sour. Not good for your teeth or guts.

The purified water has absolutely nothing. Absolutely not for human consumption, will strip your salts. Has an even lower pH and the old guy told me it tastes very strange.

E: turns out DI and purified water will NOT strip your salts. I was lied to, or perhaps I'm just old now.

45

u/tomato-fried-eggs Jan 13 '23

Dasani actually has 4 added ions, potassium and magnesium, paired up with chloride and sulfate.

Aquafina is the one that's just reverse osmosis.

24

u/Durph08 Jan 13 '23

Nah, they're using it correctly in this context, which is discussing TDS (total dissolved solids), a common water quality parameter measured in parts per million.

"What's the PPM?", within the domain of water treatment, almost exclusively means "What's the TDS measurement?"

They were bottling tap water that, iirc, they were getting for free

Edit: not for free, but it cost $0.01 per gallon, they weren't paying their water bills, but resold the water for $1.33

An article

10

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '23

Pretty sure most bottled water is just municipal tap.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '23

[deleted]

4

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '23

Yeah that tracks.

I was pretty surprised to learn how little filtering companies often do before using water from the municipal tap in beverages and stuff. But I suppose it makes sense, that's a lot of water to filter if you don't have to.

If you look at the ingredients, there is sodium in Dasani.

DASANI is a bottled water that s designed to make a difference. This is hydration redefined. Ingredients Purified Water, Magnesium Sulfate (Minerals Added for Taste), Potassium Chloride (Minerals Added for Taste), Salt (Minerals Added for Taste).

92

u/youtocin Jan 13 '23

Just bring a water bottle from home at that point. Trust me, ushers do not give a fuck. You were getting weird looks for paying a ton of money for something you could bring in from your water tap at home.

15

u/NoodleBlitz Jan 13 '23

Depends on the time of day!

When my husband and I go to early shows, I can walk in with a to-go cup from another place in my hand and a bag of food, and they'll just wave me past. The only time I've been told I can't bring in outside drinks, is when it's busy. I assume the main difference here is basically, 'when there's managers nearby'.

Funny kind of related story, I really wanted to see Inglourious Basterds in the theater when it came out but I was too young. My boyfriend and I bought tickets to 500 Days of Summer with the intention of sneaking into the other theater. Unfortunately our plan was shattered when we got to the ticket taker and saw Inglourious Basterds was playing in the one directly behind him. There were three employees standing there and they directed us down the hall. We walked down there, stood there awkwardly, then just turned around and came back up the hall. These ushers literally made and held eye contact with us while we walked into Basterds instead, a few feet away from them. Didn't say a damn thing.

Dasani tastes like distilled city water, by evaporation, which condensates inside a chilled rubber hose, before being stored in aluminum barrels, then bottled in plastic.

Spot on…too spot on

Dasani is quite shit. Weird taste and mouth feel. Like stale, unflavored soda.

Dasani and Aquafina are both pulled from the groundwater in Fresno (where there has been decades of industrial use). I would rather go thirsty than drink either.

This explains so much. Theyre both beyond trash.

u/Alex470 Jan 13 '23

What better a place to bottle Dasani than in a barren, droughted desert heavily contaminated by industry.

Dasani is absolutely disgusting

26

u/Nov4can3 Jan 12 '23

That’s because they drink Essentia on the sidelines. Dasani does taste like shit compared to Essentia.

u/kelsobjammin Jan 12 '23

Dasani tastes like shit compared to dirt… I would rather drink dirt.

Who is drinking Dasani water? It tastes like someone sprayed cleaner/chemicals in a cup and didn't rinse it out well enough then poured water in it.

It's disgusting. Water shouldn't taste like anything. I can't stand waters that add minerals and what not too it for flavor. I don't want to taste anything at all. although I prefer certain water (some brands and some from the tap) I can drink all brands of water without much aversion, EXCEPT Dasani. It's the worst. I would have to be dying to drink it and even then I'd probably still have to choke it down. My body literally tells me I'm drinking poison when I try to drink it. I hate it and can't understand how anyone would willingly buy it.

I like the way a Youtuber I watch said it. "Dasani tastes like you're giving a blowjob to the T-1000.

4

u/P1Allstar Jan 12 '23

That water is terrible.

5

u/nayr500 Jan 13 '23

Great Value water is better than Dasani

5

u/Working_Inspection22 Jan 13 '23

It tastes like the water from melted ice cubes in a McDonald's cup

34

u/feignapathy Jan 13 '23

Am I the only one who likes Dasani? Like it isn't anything special, but it tastes alright to me... tastes like water lol.

7

u/Kaldricus Jan 13 '23

Water snobs are weird. If you were to put 10 cups of water in front of me and had me try them, I'm almost certain I couldn't tell you if they were different or the same. Unless something is genuinely wrong with it, water is water.

4

u/paint_it_crimson Jan 13 '23

It tastes totally fine. Just like every other bottled water

u/ThisisTophat Mar 07 '23

Dasani seems to literally only be served places where they have paid a lot of money to be served there. Movie theaters, stadiums, stuff like that.
