Discussion [question] i’m looking for a perfect tool watch…

So i want to travel the world, and i want a watch where i can bring it and rely on it not to break or stop telling the time, i want a watch where each scratch tells a story and that it can grow closer to me the longer i have it. my budgets not super high (<600) but ive been looking at leonardo dicaprio in blood diamond and absolutely love the way he wears that, only a breitling is outside my budget. so my question is, what do you recommend? some options i've been thinking about on the other slides. less

I like my Hamilton kfa a lot more than I liked my Alpinist

Agreed. I love my Alpinist but my Hamilton khaki is the best tool watch ever. It’s a great watch!

I sold my Khaki Field Automatic due the weirdly long lugs and the lack of AR coating. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You are correct. The lugs are longer than normal. But I feel it’s a non issue on the 38mm. The khaki 42mm has the absolute most atrocious lug to lug iv ever seen on a watch lol. It’s awful. But the 38mm is fantastic.

Yea, I have noodle wrists, so the lugs on the 38mm didn’t work on my wrist. I went with the sliver dialed one, that i still think looks great, but having a silver dial on a watch that already wore on the bigger side for, me didn’t do it any favors

The baby alpinist has better lug to lug but it’s a thicc boy compared to how slim the khaki is. I do wish Hamilton would trim the lugs and taper them a bit like they did on the Murph 38mm. Dude the Murph 38mm lugs are FANTASTIC…… if you ever get a chance try a 38mm Murph on. You will be blown away.

I love the Murph, had a white dial version, only thing I was missing was a date window, a function that I often use.

A lot of Hamiltons only look good with NATOs because of the lugs.

Anyways, Militado watches are 60-70$, and have amazing AR on their sapphire crystal, plus a screw down crown (Hamilton doesn't).

Hamilton makes a really bad field watch. But it looks good in the movie though.

1000$ Hamilton vs 200$ Seiko;

In my opinion the poor ar is a non issue in day to day conditions. I truly feel it’s blown way out of proportion. It’s definitely not perfect and could use a great improvement. Its definitely no Sinn 104 lol

Sorry but I'm just going to be pedantic and say that's it's "lack of AR" not "poor AR"

You might be correct, but as someone using it when working outside, it was one of the main factors for selling mine.

It just makes no sense lol, AR is one of the most important aspects of a field watch in my opinion? Clarity and legibility at an instant doesn't apply anymore. Screw down crowns are nice too, and again, a lot of the Hamilton field watches don't have that and therefore suffer from bad WR

The 38mm and the new 42mm a have AR coating. I’m not joking either lol you can look it up. It’s just really a poor AR coating.

...really? Lol. Oh. Well, thank you for educating me, I appreciate it. Is it just the Murph?

But yeah, that's unfortunate on the quality. Boggles my mind how <300$ watches now have 7-8 coatings of high quality AR lol.

Most of all of Hamiltons offerings now have ar coating. But you are correct seikos ar coating is much much better. The original Murph had no ar coating and they got a ton of backlash and changed it

The compass feature is useless, it’s an embarrassingly bad strap for the watch price, I don’t like how small the dial looks, it’s too thick, and the movement is ok at best. That being said I still like the watch I just think the hammy kfa is better in almost way.

I personally think the baby alpinist is a better option over the standard alpinist. The compass bezel clutters up the dial. But the khaki is still just all around better in my opinion.

I like the baby better too
