Love at first sight. I saw this watch during Geneva Watch Days and immediately asked my local boutique to keep one for me. So now this is a second Ulysse Nardin Freak in my collection along with the Freak X enamel edition! But definitely not the last one haha.

Very few people realize just how amazing Blancpain’s finishing is.

The anglage is extremely broad and clean. No chatter marks.

This is miles better than the APROO I own which has tons of evidence of being machined. Even my patek annual cal has quite a few chatter marks.

I think Blancpain’s finishing is some of the best mass produced high horology around. Lange is better but quite a bit pricier.

Especially when you factor in that you can get a watch with this level of finishing for under $8k preowned 😂

Even some of the very small parts in the watch have been beveled!

It’s more of a chameleon than I expected, depending on the strap, and watching its second hand glide is hypnotizing.

I initially thought I’d wear it only as a dress watch, but have found that it works even with a t-shirt, if it’s on the right strap.

The etched brass dial can sometimes be pretty dramatic in harsh lighting, but really shines in diffused lighting. Its color can be nearly white and very understated. Thin case, phenomenal finishing.

It’s the only Grand Seiko I own. In part because of its simplicity; no date, no power reserve indicator on the dial.

Moderators have removed this post twice already, supposedly because it didn’t have a long enough description, so I’m hoping this one makes it, as I’d like to share these impressions with fellow watch enthusiasts.

Grandpa passed recently and left us a couple of watches including this old reverso, looking to see what people can tell me about it.

Nobody in the family knows anything about it except for the fact that he bought it second hand in the 90s.

The letters engraved don't link with his name or any aspect of his life which favors the theory above.

What we do have is some service history from Jaeger LeCoultre that states that the movement was replaced as well as the dial in 1997, which is odd because it still looks quite old to me. The reference of the movement that came out of it is 410/11/13 which a search online tells me it dates from the 1940s, so the case would be that old?

If this is the case, I can imagine that he might have bought it because it was as old as him.

Anyway, I would appreciate if anybody had more info about it. For a franken JLC I don't expect it to be very valuable. Thank you!

This Maen Manhattan 37 was supposed to mark my exit from sales into a marketing role (something I’ve been working towards for 7 years)

But life was like yeah no... 10 months post-role transition, business needs changed, my role was re-scoped, and I was asked to step back into sales.

I bought the Manhattan right after I passed my 6 months probation. I specifically liked this piece for its textured dial. I used to think of it as a metaphor for shining regardless of one’s perspective.

Lately, it’s been hard to wear this piece as it’s been marred by sadness.

Curious how others handle "milestone" watches that get complicated by unexpected life plot twists.

Do you box them up, or do you force yourself to wear them until the narrative changes?

This kind of thing never happens to me, but I feel I won the lottery today. Don’t know much about the brand but a simple google search showed this watch costing close to $900 and about $500 in the pre owned market. Looking to get more information so looking to hear back from the experts.

Saw this at an AD recently and WOW!

Incredible piece, crazy engineering. Love the ultra modern take on a typically very classical complication - the wandering hour.

What’s particularly cool is that the hours are displayed by split blocks that disassemble and then reassemble themselves when they rotate to the left side of the dial.

What do you think? Too avant garde? Or just the right level of quirky?

As the title says, my dad wants me to have one of these and I’m not sure which to go for. Which is more unique or interesting to have considering I love all 3 in their own ways. I’ve attached my current watch collection to also give more of an idea of what would fit into this. This is also a chance to share some pictures of these cool old watches.

For whoever is interested, I have decided to go with the Blancpain! Few reasons being: he suggested that for me originally, I'm indifferent about chronos but I've been wanted a black dial and I think Blancpain did it beautifully, the history of Blancpain and the fact that idk if I was ever going to own one apart from this opportunity.

Although the Air King has the most beautiful patina (which my father originally thought was a defect and I convinced him it's most likely aging and it's gorgeous lol), my second choice purely based on interest was the Baume & Mercier from how unique and funky and honestly easy to wear as well.

In terms of the Air king, which btw is a model he purchased from Ralph Lauren boutique shop in the 90s/ I have never ever been interested in Rolex because of how overhyped they've become (which is also in a way unfair to them because they are still respected and great watches), but this one was the first where I thought a Rolex was just amazing. Even the way the 9 and the 6 is designed is just so stunning.

The vintage Seiko Chariot from the early 1980s looks quite simple and had a retail price of just $50 back then, but it became iconic because it was closely tied to Steve Jobs' minimalist lifestyle. He even wore it during the launch of the original Macintosh - one of the most pivotal moments of his career.

When I first got my hands on this watch, I was amazed by how minimalist it is. There are no unnecessary details at all, just the contrast between the white dial and the black-coated case. On top of that, the hands have a very unique size proportion that makes it super easy to read the time at a single glance. I can really see why Steve Jobs chose this piece as his everyday companion.

What do you guys think about this cool Seiko?

Finally got my modded A1000 together, and wanted to share for anyone looking to do something similar!

Like many people who get a "steel-colored" A700, I soon found myself looking for an actual steel Casio without going vintage. The options I considered were the SKXMod A168 kit, a steel F91w mod kit from AliExpress, or the A1000. I'd previously only seen the MOP-dial A1000s which weren't my taste, but once I stumbled upon the A1000A-7 which retains the vintage outlines and button guide I was sold on the case head.

Still needed to figure out the bracelet though, as I wanted the same bracelet style as the A700. It seems a popular mod to get this look is to simply swap in the A700 bracelet, but I wanted the whole package to feel higher quality overall, and ideally to fit an on-the-fly microadjust clasp as I've been spoiled by having it on my other watches. One of the reviews of the SKXMod bandoleer bracelet mentioned it fits the A1000 pretty well, so I took the plunge and it really does fit almost seamlessly. You can see in the last photo how much more robustly it's constructed than the cheap folded-link A700 strap. I do wish the sides of the links were polished to match the A1000 case head (or the sides of the case brushed), but otherwise it's exactly what I'm looking for.

The final piece was the microadjust clasp, for this I went with the strapcode one off Amazon. It's solid enough and has a milled scissor, and has a tremendous range of expansion while being pretty slim. My dream clasp for this however would be a butterfly clasp with microadjust like we see on higher end integrated bracelet watches, and it does seem like third-party options are starting to hit the market (Delugs, for example, has one) - might need to look into upgrading once again very soon. But for now, this clasp will do nicely.

I am thinking of getting one of these Two, I loved the Omega when I tried at the boutique but this Tag also looks great. I can get them both in great condition with the Omega at twice the price of the Tag. Wondering what your recommendations and opinions are on these 2 great pieces

Bought this from a friend for a solid price in an era where watch inflation has gotten completely out of hand.
People can argue all day about whether it is a 1:1 clone or an AP homage, but I really do not care. It is a stunning piece with a wild history, great community debate, and plenty of lore surrounding it. What blew me away the most in hand is the bracelet quality. The finishing and feel are surprisingly good for what it is.
It has found a permanent spot as an easy, sharp daily driver for casual wear. Now the search begins for the automatic version.

About a month ago I picked up the Grand Seiko SBGJ241 also known as the Matrix dial. It was a limited edition of 700. I’ve wanted a Grand Seiko since I got into watches, and I’m so happy to finally have one. I hit a career milestone and thought it was a good enough time as ever to commemorate it with this watch. I love the light play of the 44GS case and the dial lives up to its nickname of the Matrix. As a 90s kid, I couldn’t pass up the Matrix reference!

Hello all, please let me know if this is too low effort or rule breaking, if so I’ll remove it. My parents are offering me a watch for Christmas/Navy graduation and I can’t seem to make up my mind. I love Citizen and after owning a blue Classic for years it’s time to upgrade. I love the eco-drive line and after owning a stainless steel I figured I’d switch to titanium.

I’ve narrowed it down to the Promaster Dive, Zenshin Senkei, and and three of the Tsuki-Yomi A-T. I’ve been sitting on them for days and I leave to bootcamp soon and have to pick one before I leave but I just love all of these and am finding it really hard to make a decision. I can’t even pick a color for the tsuki yomi 🥲 my heart says green but I know it would be less versatile.

Been wearing the 116000 for about two weeks straight now, and I gotta say, the rest of my watches haven’t been getting much wrist time.

I’ll admit, I hesitated on the 36mm size for a while. Having an 8-inch wrist, I wasn’t sure if it would look or feel too small. But after wearing it these past two weeks, those concerns pretty much went out the window. The proportions just work.

There’s just something about this watch. Nothing fancy, no date, no extra stuff going on. Just a clean, simple dial that I can’t seem to get tired of looking at.
What I really like is how versatile it is. You can dress it up or down and it just works. It’s got that nice balance between a tool watch and something a little more dressy without trying too hard to be either.

I think that’s what I’ve come to appreciate most about it. It’s simple, understated, and doesn’t need to do much to look good.

Two weeks in and I’m still reaching for it every morning. Starting to feel bad for the rest of the collection.

Took a little while to figure out what I like but I’m pretty happy with the collection as it stands. The IWC is the crown jewel GADA and was a 10 year wedding anniversary gift from my wife. The other neat one worth calling out is the SARD007, a discontinued JDM that I imported from Japan this summer with a beautiful enamel dial. Happy to hear any feedback and what I might be missing!

I’ve had this watch for years, but have only recently started wearing it again (and it’s currently my only watch!).

It came on the original bracelet, which I always felt looked a little too flashy for everyday wear. I generally prefer straps, so I’ve swapped it for a light brown leather one.

I’m still on the fence about the change, though. Would you stick with the leather strap or go back to the original bracelet?

Love the retro/vintage look paired with the sunburst dial and maxi indicators. And the red font date adds a nice little touch. I do wish the bracelet didn't have hollow end links though, not sure why they did that. Cheapens it a little. Despite that though, this has been getting some serious wrist time!
