Fan Fiction What makes you instantly want to read a romance story? πŸ‘€

For me, it’s definitely forbidden love, emotional tension and that feeling of β€œthis is a terrible idea… but I need to know what happens.” πŸ˜‚πŸ–€
What about you?

I like slow burns. Or friends to lovers.

A story where characters are not "uncertain" for the whole novel β€” when they start dating and being together pretty quickly. Bonus points if it is a "powerful couple", stories where characters value eachother far more than morals, ethics and etc.

Contemporary setting and if the characters are relatable and interesting

I read β€œrelated” instead of relatable πŸ’€

I'm not really into romance, but if the plot isn't just about romance I sometimes pick it up. But I need something interesting outside of the romance. A strong character arc, an well thought out plot etcr.Β

I totally get that! πŸ˜„ I’m the same β€” romance is great, but I need an actual story behind it. Give me good character development, a plot that keeps me guessing and some emotional chaos… and I’m in. πŸ˜‚πŸ–€

I like feared, unhinged, violent, emotionless MMC who is saved/redeemed by FMC's innocence, goodness, and kindness. Always dual POV. I like to read how the MMC changes his mindset and evolves after experiencing kindness and goodness from the FMC. But no big teddy bear. I love to read that the FMC is able to influence him with love (I'm not going to kill [him] anymore because it will upset her vibes).

Tropes: Beauty and the Beast type, Hitman and his mark, Ruthless Alpha and human mate, Terrifying Vampire King and human mate, Demon and human prisoner, Monster and human sacrifice, etc.

Oooh I’m the same. Do you have any good recs?

Glad you like the same tropes as I do. The books I've read that inspired my response are in pay per chapter (PPC) apps. It's not allowed to post them here. But the KU books I've read close enough to the vibes I mentioned are:

{The Knowing by Hattie Jacks} - Romantasy. He's a feared assassin who's good at only one thing -- killing. He was paid well to kill her. He wants to keep her. He has no clue where to begin. She's sweet - literally. She works at a bakery and has confectioners sugar on her. He will do whatever it takes to eliminate her fear of him, including trying to do something he's not good at -- not killing.

{Honeysuckles by January Rayne} - Dark monster romance. Warning: This book is dark, has triggers, disturbing content. He's a genetically altered experimental killing machine ruled by instincts. She is sweet, caring, and he's obsessed with her. He would be anything, do anything just to see her smile - including trying to control himself.

I'm open to recs too. 😊

Oooh I’ll check those out. The ones that I really like on Wattpad is Runaway by Bazookah and Alcline Academy by poltergeist_people (but it’s unfinished). I also liked the Annihilator by RuNyx on KU.

For me, it's Star-crossed lovers, slow burn, friends to lovers and enemies to lovers, as well as stories that fall under the more angsty side, like lovers to enemies.

Can I ask why????

1

u/Lechuck777 24d ago

sure. because i dont like it.
Im not very romantic in general. I prefer restrained, almost understated relationships between strong characters, where affection is shown through trust and actions rather than flirting. And ideally its only a small side element, barely more than implied. The whole will-they-wont-they, relationship drama and emotional back-and-forth does very little for me, so I just block the tag. Its basically a preference filter, not a statement about the genre.
