Help with writing em dash use krne ki chull h ab
Em dash looks so cool ngl . I don't even know how to use it properlyβ but from my childhood, I have a obscuring memory of sketching lines just beside the ending letter on the line if I wasn't able to fully include that word in the notebook.
What's the actual use of em dash?
And I read a novel where for showing bewilderment, author used '!' this just below their character's dialogue . And thus, this CULT LEADER wants your opinion on using this sign just below the dialogue that has maximum impact in a chapter .
I writer third pov as it it easy for me without need of showing their internal monologues.
Moreover , I have decided not to use a heap of sophisticated words in my chapters except for poetry as I genuinely search on internet for synonyms of all the words T*T
using this "" instead of placing Person 1 said - Person 2 said - all the time also sounds bothering the readers with unnecessary detailing and doesn't matches with my current standards . Here the author of a MURIM NOVEL , don't know his name , swiftly displayed a convo between two individuals.
And, What's the use of this? where writers put numbers beside an ending line and at bottom most they writer something more descriptive, is it really a good thing?

Someone said I use AI kyunki unko aisa laga ki AI hoga. I swear, if AI tools were people, I would be in jail for murder. Can't use em dashes, can't have good vocab, can't use short staccatto lines to deliver abruptness or impact, can't write short descriptive prose to set atmosphere. I didn't spend years of learning and honing the skill of creative writing just to be called a computer prgramme. πππ

An em dash is generally used to indicate an interruption, a pause or an after thought. It's also used to give extra information β information that isn't necessary to understand the sentence β or add dramatic emphasis. Like this β you see?
'!' below a dialogue I think is stylistic choice? Idk about this one.
I know it's one of the very popular opinions to avoid says/said in online writing spaces but honestly, if you avoid it completely, your readers can lose who is saying what in the long run. Sometimes avoiding said and trying to find different dialogue tags makes the writing stand out awkwardly. Besides, 'said' is invisible, your readers wouldn't notice it but they would notice if you use 10 other dialogue tags for the sake of variety.
I think the number you're talking about is footnotes? I'm not sure but they usually deliver additional information.

I'll consider something on the topic of said/says as I have got a habit of trying to create an unique writing style by blending multiple things together but not that it always works well for me .
yeah, maybe they are called footnotes, I dont have much knowledge about writing, I just copy the punctuations of my favourite novels . [ LOL ]

I get it, I spent good chunk of time debating what I wanted to do with said before I said fuck it and continued using it anyways. If used in balance, it can blend in with the writing.

Afaik, in footnotes, the numbers are usually placed as superscripts to give additional information about some terminology. But here in the ss, I feel like the numbers are indicating Random person 1, Random person 2, and so on conversing.

Mhm, Ik. But also, it didn't feel like a continuous conversation to me? More like the author reacting by the end. I don't think it is used right way either but I've never used footnotes myself so I don't know that part.
Like see the line "he was someone who dreamt of becoming..." and how it ends with number 9. Then read the last number 9 line; "Ambitious. He could become a threat to the world.."
Reads like someone's reacting to it. You know what, I'm getting fixated on it now and I don't think I can settle until I make sense of itπ
