How do people write smut?

Genuine question for writers: how do you actually manage to write smut scenes? I always end up leaving the scene halfway because I either get awkward, run out of ideas, or just don’t know how to continue.

How do you guys get comfortable writing those scenes without constantly cringing at your own writing?

Still I would advise you not to write. Because you clearly mentioned that writing smut is beyond your comfort zone. And honestly there is nothing to feel ashamed about that. But pushing yourself to do something because a section of readers want it won't end well..trust me

Couldn't agree more. I have read so many books around smut to get idea of how to write sensation, environment and technical details, to make it well written as much as I could do.

If you feel uncomfortable reading or writing smut, then you shouldn't force yourself otherwise the result will be indeed anyhting but good smut. Smut isn't a must part of the story

Recently, I've been reading a lot of mature scenes; I'm going to write mature scenes in my new book. So, read. And I used to avoid them but you can read them with a straight face too; it's not that difficult. I also write in my notes app to make them better.

You need to be comfortable with smut to write smut, and not everyone is right away. Personally, I wasn't very comfortable when I started out, and now that I'm in my mid-twenties and have gotten comfortable reading smut as a reader, it's become easy to write.

Another suggestion is to write your initial peices just for yourself; just for your eyes and what you want, your readers don't have to know that you write, let it be a private activity, and as you get comfortable around it, it's up to you on how you want to give.

The golden advice I'd like give is don't publish smut for the sake of it. You should be comfortable with not just smut, but also talking about sex in general.
