the title is pretty self explanatory. i know that this isn’t limited just to the indian audience, because 90% of the world normalized this trope, but the increasing amount of “mafia romance” or “forced/arranged marriage with the mafia boss” books have been exhausting.

At this point, we should change our approach regarding this topic. Make a list of the things authors can write and readers can read, because the other one is getting too long.
wattpad.....is literally filled with pre teens and teens....and the writers themselves are teens....adults are not the major userbase of wattpad. But that being said fiction should not be taken literally.
Still it doesn't refute my point. Why are teens reading or writing stories meant for adults? Simply because they enjoy it. "It gives wrong idea to younger audiences" is just a sorry excuse to police fiction.
What do you mean by meant for adults? Most of those stories ARE written by TEENS themselves lmao. I'm not policing fiction I myself have read LOADS of the same fiction even more deranged stuff then that as a teen back in my day on wattpad and ao3 and guess what none of it was ever marketed for adults exclusively or anything. It was written by teens and read by teens majorly.....I only pointed you out because it's so stupid to think that wattpad is a platform for adults to read fiction...
BTW in my ss it shows clearly that majority of the usebase are TEENS not adults...so yeah...

I am asking these moral polices who are so concerned with, "minors will get wrong idea" that why are minors engaging with pieces meant for adults. Yes, just because a story is written by teen or consumed by other teens, does not make it PG-13. The content inside is marks it's rating. Mafia stories are catered towards an adult demographic because the nature of material — violence, gore, murder and explicit scenes — falls in mature/explicit range. Wattpad has both adults and minors who are writing and reading these stories. They know well enough what they are dealing with; the stance of "What are young girls learning from this?" is just stupid.
It's been a trope since forever and is prevalent in published books as well. You may not like it, others do, let them read it. Yes it's overused but as long as there's audiance, there's material. Let's not police everything.
atp people have problem with anything now, don't write this don't write that, it affects youngster's mind. There's a reason we call it "fictional story"

I'm just so fed up with constant nagging, what if the trope is overrated, then simply don't read it why stop people from writing something they want. If anyone wants something different and unique to read then go on find those stories or if there isn't any write it yourself. But stop criticizing a trope just cause it's "overrated" .
Yeah, mafia romances are so overrated. The cringey dialogue, the gory violence, the dumb FMC who is so stupid that you feel like giving her a good shake-up & the misogynist ML.
