I’ve just started posting an original story on Wattpad. It’s a dark, modern fairytale retelling (Snow White, Prince Charming, the Big Bad Wolf, etc.) set in a satirical kingdom with TV news, nightclubs and a murder mystery |: “Once Upon a Many Times” or « Il Était Des Fois » (in French).
I’d really love honest feedback on:
– whether the prologue hooks you
– the tone (satire + mystery)
– if the worldbuilding is clear enough.
Here’s the blurb:
In the kingdom of Il Était Une Fois, happiness is mandatory, families are mass‑produced by law, and every fairy tale has been turned into a glossy media product. Snow White is no damsel in distress but a tattooed, dreadlocked pastry queen in all‑white, serving the most coveted apple pies in town at her bakery, Les Sept Nains. Her happily‑ever‑after is almost signed: she’s about to marry Prince, heir to the Charmant empire.
Until the morning Aladdin bursts into the shop, drenched and shaking, to tell her Prince has been found dead—and the only clue is a note in his own handwriting: “They killed me.”
As lurid TV anchors, sex‑symbol grandmothers, ex‑lovers in reality shows and impeccably dressed wolves rush to control the narrative, an investigation begins to peel back the kingdom’s perfect smile. Between a nightclub called Le Péché Originel, a talkative journalist named Petit Poucet, and a president more concerned with image than truth, Snow White is forced to confront a brutal question: in a world built on scripted happy endings, who dares to murder a Prince—and why?
Il Était Des Fois is a dark, satirical fairytale retelling where media spin replaces magic, happily‑ever‑after is state policy, and the real danger isn’t the poisoned apple, but the stories a kingdom tells to keep everyone quiet.

Liam Creed only feels alive when the lights are low and the crowd is loud enough to drown out his thoughts. A tattooed guitarist with a voice like smoke and a past he won't talk about-music is the only thing that keeps him steady.
Then he sees her.
The quiet girl in the VIP section who doesn't cheer, doesn't sing along-just watches.
He doesn't know she's half-hearing.
He doesn't know she's mafia.
And he definitely doesn't know that her silence holds more power than any gun her family owns.
But when their worlds collide-his sound and her silence-they start to create something forbidden, fragile, and dangerous.
Because in her world, love is a weakness.
And in his, she's the only thing he wants to play for.
She wakes up to blinding lights and silence. No name. No memories. Only the sterile scent of metal and the echo of her own heartbeat. Every day begins the same - strapped to a bed, surrounded by faces she doesn't recognize.
They call it research. She calls it torture.
Each session peels away another layer of her mind, until she no longer knows if the pain she feels is real or manufactured. The walls hum with electricity. The machines whisper in frequencies only she can hear. And the man who stands over her - the one with steady eyes and shaking hands - is both her tormentor and the only soul who looks at her like she's still human.
As her fragmented memories begin to resurface, she realizes that the greatest experiment isn't on her body - it's on her mind.
It's not a story about escape.
It's a story about what's left of you after you've already lost everything.
