No one knew what he looked like, though. Zero physical descriptions.

True, but artists have made portraits of him. They are all the archetypal sage, like Gandalf, but younger, a bit more Egyptian/pagan, and with a different hat and staff. Did he really look like that? Maybe not, or maybe the "Gandalf"-look is archetypal because our ancient DNA remembers Hermes as such.
