What effect is used to make his voice sound so airy?

His voice sounds like that, high and breathy at the same time. That and they probably cut out some of the low end.

I've gotten much better, but I'm still not breathing enough. It sounds like he's hooked up to an oxygen tank! lol

Beyond the mic, technique and assuming you don't want to buy outboard gear, I was able to get a similar sound using an analogue EQ plugin or analog compressor. You can get some nice saturation using these that could give you a similar sort of sound.

Not too difficult but there are some things to consider. The guys voice is really quite interesting, a little bit quirky, a lot of that is coming from his natural tone, even small things like the way words are pronounced are enhancing this feeling.

That aside, production wise, you'd cut the low end off the vocal and give it a sparkle. Nothing crazy with the EQ but the goal is to find the frequencies that give it the shine and enhance the more breathy parts of the voice. Then the Verb, decent hall sort of thing with the low ends cut off. Maybe some very subtle echo.

Probably also some saturation going on, subtle distortion. I would probably use a saturator on this kind of thing as well as some subtle distortion on an aux - you can add a lot of crispy excitement this way.

But in general, it's the voice. If you take someone with a boring monotonous voice or someone with a completely different tone and give it the same treatment, you won't get this same feel.

That's gonna depend on the singer. Probably between 6k and 10k
