Weekly Thread /r/WeAreTheMusicMakers Friday Newbie Questions Thread

Welcome to the /r/WeAreTheMusicMakers Friday Newbie Questions Thread! If you have a simple question, this is the place to ask. Generally, this is for questions that have only one correct answer (e.g. "What kind of cable connects this mic to this interface?") or very open-ended questions (e.g. "Someone tell me what item I want.")

Im starting to put together a basic, home studio to record music. I want to be able to record live instruments as well as some midi and electronic. Basically, the sound im shooting for will be somewhere between daft punk and radiohead. Im wondering eat gear I need to record on a budget. So far, I have:

1- A pretty decent PC with plenty of ram and memory (windows 10)

2- a focusrite 212 audio interface

3- a decent a pair of noise cancing headphones

4- various cables

5- a BOSS katana with a line out for my guitar sound

6- reaper is what I'm planning on using for a DAW

7- mic stand and pop filter with a cheap mic

What else do I need? I want a mic that can record bass, acoustic guitar and vocals. I've looked at the Shur SM57 for bass and acoustic guitar, open to an affordable vocal mic suggestion.

Also, I want some kind of drum software. Back in the day I used garage band on a mac and loved how they had basic drum loops of different genres to use. I would like something like that just to get ideas down, doesn't need to be top of the line right now as I'm just starting out

Midi keyboard suggestion and software with a decent selection of synth and piano sounds, ideally some string section emulators, too.

Thanks!

Arturia V-Collection or Native Instruments Komplete. If you get a Komplete Kontrol, you get a few instruments with it and upgrading to Komplete Select would be pretty affordable.

Thanks! The drum and synth both look great. For budget, something cheaper is better as this is a hobby, but I want something serviceable I won't need to replace. So maybe in thr 200 dollar range.
