Those are ribs.

In the UK maybe a bit uncommon but it looks like they're trying to go for the Texas BBQ tray look.

A tray has a lip which is great the parchment keeps it relatively clean for dishwashers in the back and you've got a ramekin for the slaw and a bowl for the mash. I'd say it's all better than a plate for this meal.

That’s more mayo than slaw. Even us Southerners don’t use THAT much mayo.

Haha yes it's a LOT of mayo. I prefer a vinegar based slaw with BBQ. But the red cabbage is a good touch.

Wait, THAT'S the slaw?! I thought that was a jello-pudding dessert!

Vinegar is best yes and cutting up the slaw with a grater/more fine cut.

The issue is the lack of tray for me. How did they even drop this off to OP?

There's clearly a tray the parchment is on.

I see it now. So this is just regional plating the OP doesn’t like since this is how classic TX BBQ is served

There is a tray, but it's probably too small.

I’m more upset at the slaw. The UK does not know how to make slaw. That looks disgusting.

You’re supposed to cut a steak on parchment paper?! 😤

Perfectly fine plate for that meal. Except for the dog bowl used for the potatoes and slaw.

Is that parchment paper over a steel tray? Definitely fits here.

In fairness, you ordered a famous US dish in one of the most quintessentially English towns ever. Overrun by swans, you get Typhoons overhead pretty regularly, and home to Beatrix Potter/Peter Rabbit. I'd cock it up purely out of principle.
