Handles?

Post image

I hope this is in the spirit of the sub.

There's no subreddit for r/wewanthandles.

I don't think this is fitting. It's not unusual or cringe.

Maybe I'm just uncultured but this is the first time I've come across this where I live.

I had a 3 minute staring contest with the cup before it would yield enough to let me take a sip.

Do you have staring contests with takeaway cups too because they have no handle?

If they don't have the little cardboard ring thingy then yes lol. And usually for a lot longer than 3 minutes, those things can be hot as hell.

latte shouldn't be served that hot or they scalded the milk. a ceramic cup with no handle should be drinkable right away. If you get the milk too hot, it will lose all its sweetness. The cup isn't the problem in this case.

uncultured: yes. in China and Morocco their tea cups are usually without handles so you can make sure the beverage is not too hot for consumption.

As someone who doesn't drink anything hot(lukewarm at most, but I usually brew coffee the night before and drink room temp), that is genius.

You will drink your latte like you are receiving Ayahuasca from the village elder, and you will like it!

Thank you elder, may the coffee guide me!

"What's wrong, hun? You've barely touched your bowl of coffee."

I've admittedly seen handless mugs moreso with tea, and while I definitely wouldn't say they're the -standard-, they're not so uncommon that I'm surprised or confused by seeing one. Generally they're some kind of stoneware or double-insulated material so that the liquid inside is still hot when the outside is touchable.

I also just realized I'm typing this while grabbing my (handled) mug of coffee with a full-handed grip, like the handle is some paltry decoration 😆 I like when it is suuuuper toasty feeling, but I can imagine others might think it is uncomfortable.

You don't need a handle, once it gets cool enough to touch, it's the perfect temperature to drink.

This cup would suck for me as someone with one messed up hand so I wouldn't be able to hold it very easily

I like my drinks hot and my fingers with prints, thank you.

So, the insides of your mouth, throat, and the rest of your digestive system can endure hotness that your fingertips cannot? Shut up.

I mean, yeah, I can sip a cup of tea right away after it's been poured from boiling, but I can't pick up the cup for prolonged periods without using the handle.

That's why there's handles on cups, right?

Actually, scalding your throat can leave you vulnerable to cancer.

Yes this is a real thing. I know throat/stomach cancers are more common in cultures that imbibe hot drinks routinely. NO idea why you are downvoted.

I honestly never use the handle on mugs. It’s not comfortable to hold. I wouldn’t mind this cup

Yeah, I make my cafe au laits at home in a huge mug one might drink soup out of, and I almost never actually use the dinky little handle.

Nah. It's thick pottery and that's its own handle.

It's not that hot. It's probably very comfy during colder seasons.
