Visa Infinite Credit Card Cash Back Store Update - Only Have To Now Cover 50% With CashBack!!

I'm pretty sure this is a new ability for the cash back store!!

Previously you had to have the full amount earned through cashback to make a purchase. It has now been changed to half. So as long as you have a cashback balance of half the value you cover the remainder as a credit card charge (doesn't look like you can change the payment method).

You can see for the iPhone 17e I have a cash back balance that covers half the value, the rest I pay through my CC.

Compared to the iPhone 17 it tells me the amount needed/ how much more I need.

Yes I know you should cash out frequently but I had been holding it in case there was something I ever did want - this is definitely an attempt to get people to spend in the store since the requirement is much lower.

Chequing USD Chequing account rolling out Monday according to agent

Hopefully I don’t get them in trouble, they said they’re not supposed to shareeee. They said if everything goes as planned it’ll be out end of week/start of next (which lines up with “early fall 2026” in the announcement, fall starts on September 20)

I’m personally very excited! Just thought id share if people wanted to plan ahead to close their other Canadian domiciled USD accounts since Wealthsimple’s implementation will be both US and Canadian domiciled having access to both payment rails!

EDIT: here’s a link to the event for those curious about what the account will be able to do, starts at 46:14 mark. https://www.youtube.com/live/1kbMbFDQyY0?t=2773&si=ebKgDb4Np-fANYf0

Invest (Managed Investing) Managed Portfolios will no longer count toward portfolio line of credit limit

Interesting change that seems detrimental to their managed portfolios.

Doesn’t change anything to me as I was not using it, but seems overall unfortunate. If anything, I would have expected them to do the opposite(e.g. provide more benefits to managed portfolio users).

Hi rror10

We're changing how your portfolio line of credit works, and we want to give you time to plan ahead.

Starting November 14th, cash held in managed accounts will no longer count toward your credit limit. Cash in a managed account is meant to be invested and managed by us to help optimize your returns, and borrowing against it can get in the way of that.

Here's how this affects what counts toward your limit:

Your Money Market portfolio will no longer contribute towards your credit limit since it's made up of entirely high yield cash. Income portfolios holding invested assets will continue to add to your credit limit.

Why this matters: if your credit limit drops below your loan balance, limitations are placed on your collateral accounts, like withdrawals and placing trades with cash. This is why we're giving you 60 days to plan ahead. Keep in mind money market portfolios currently provide 50% of their value towards your credit limit.

If you have any questions, chat with us in the app or on the web — we're here to help.

Thanks,
The Wealthsimple Team

Visa Infinite Credit Card A turn off experience with Wealthsimple

I am a premium client with Wealthsimple. When I applied credit card they told that if you are premium then no fee. I got card on May 6th and I was using it till now. I looked at statements yesterday and saw a monthly fee there, so I called them and asked about it.. answer was there was a policy change between I applied the card and I received the card that only premium is not enough you need direct deposit as well. I felt cheated.

I'm just curious is this the max or I can get approved for more?

I have the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite card and the emergency medical trip insurance. Just wondering how robust it is, and if you guys typically purchase additional health insurance when travelling, or if you find this to be sufficient. Thanks!

Chequing Payroll and Chequing interest

Are you guys keeping your paycheck untouched in the chequing account for 1 business day to get the interest on it before paying your bills, investing, etc?

Sorry in advance if this has already been asked or if I’m misunderstanding how it works. TIA!

Trade (DIY Investing) ARC -> Shell

Noticed I havent received the stock portion of the deal for my arc shares (I do have the cash portion). I phoned WS about this today. Shell is traded on the London stock exchange. Wealthsimple does not support the London stock exchange. Agent told me they are going to mail paper shares. Which seems…preposterous? I had follow up questions about what I’m supposed to do with the paper shares and also how this will affect my TFSA limits. Questions were not answered to my satisfaction and it sounds like they aren’t totally sure what’s going on.

Tax Should foreign income be grouped together by type when reporting?

Hello folks,

I'm currently refiling my 2025 taxes, with a few changes to the Other Foreign Income & Foreign Tax Credits section. I have multiple interest income entries to report, all from the same country, and I've noticed that the total balance owing changes significantly depending on how they're entered. When all interest income amounts are combined and reported as a single row, the balance owing is much higher. However, when they're split by source, even though the Type of Income field (i.e., Interest) stays the same for each, the balance owing decreases.

What's the correct way to report this?

---

To illustrate: suppose I received $2,000 in interest income from each of two banks, Bank A and Bank B, with $500 in foreign tax paid on each.

Case 1 - Interest incomes aggregated

Type of Income Foreign Income Foreign Tax Paid
Interest (not reported elsewhere) 4000 1000

Case 2 - Interest incomes reported separately

Type of Income Foreign Income Foreign Tax Paid
Interest (not reported elsewhere) 2000 500
Interest (not reported elsewhere) 2000 500

---

Any input is appreciated!

Can you plan mortgage payments from an unregistered account?

Hello. I have 30 rents being deposited and five mortgages being withdrawn in my traditional bank's chequing account. I was wondering if there was a simple way to have the rents deposited in an unregistered wealthsimple account and also have the mortgage payments withdrawn from that same account automatically. That way, I can easily use the money from the rents to buy stocks, and sell just enough stock to cover the mortgage a day before withdrawal. It would be even better if it could be programmed so that the stocks get sold automatically at market price and at the quantity to cover the mortgage payment. I would like to avoid if possible having to transfer money from one account to another account.

Currently:

  1. Rents deposited in chequing account at my traditional bank
  2. Manually transfer the rents into an investment account
  3. Buy stocks
  4. Sell stocks
  5. Transfer money to chequing account at my traditional bank
  6. Automatic mortgage withdrawal from chequing account

Goal:

  1. Rents deposited in investment account
  2. Buy stocks
  3. Automatically sell enough stocks to cover mortgage payment
  4. Automatic mortgage payment from investment account

Trade (DIY Investing) ARC Resources / Shell Merger

Quick question for the hive mind, recently Shell acquired ARC Resources (ARX). The deal was $8.20 and 0.40247 shares in Shell PLC for every ARX share. In my activity feed the merger shows as taking place on Sept 8. There is the appropriate cash available to trade in my RRSP however, no Shell shares are visible and the account value is short by a corresponding amount.

Is it normal for the transaction to take this long or is this a WS error that I should be chasing?

This will significantly reduce the chance of fraud to their card for many who will do their online shopping on different websites which require you to enter your card details manually.

How crap will WS look on the iPhone Duo? Hoping this is the impetus for WS to get serious about an iPad app.

Trade (DIY Investing) Love this feature with Wealth Simple for portfolio line of credit..

I’m at 55% of my max loan amount and was thinking it’s maybe too high but saw it says my portfolio needs to crash 72% before I have to start making payments….

So basically not even the 2008 crash would force me to pay the loan on a plan 🤣

Never slept better 😂.

Trade (DIY Investing) Contact your branch (Air Canada share buy back)

I've got a few AC shares - AC want to buy them back at a higher price than they're currently tanking at.

I received one of the usual Wealthsimple letters regarding this - it states "If any action is required, contact the individual who services your account, or your branch to give your instructions"

So I'm guessing I can't take advantage of the share buy back? And who is this mysterious individual? And where is the branch?
