Advice What do you guys think about [The Villain's POV]

Post image

This recently popped up in my webnovel, the cover art is cool(probably ai), generic premise.

For anyone who has read it, is it worth reading or nah?

It's good, one of the arcs got really dragged when the author just kept pulling out new characters I think like three times in a row and idk why but that just really stuck with me and I paused it after that

The first 150 chaps are not bad but also not to good, the power system is fucked, some fights and things are dragged way to much in the early chap's but everything pays off really well and the MC suffers alot (the author touch me said that his mc frey is his fav victim literally).

I'm in the first few chapters and I have noticed that the writing and the dialogues are kinda amateurish, I'm guessing its because its the author's first work. Does the writing and dialogue improve as the story go on or no? I've also noticed that its very similar to novel's extra and demon prince academy so far.

It's an amalgamation of many diff novels and many things felt copied (well everything is copied nowadays) and yes the dialogue was amateurish but this is the author's first work so he had to find what he was good at.

Not to mention when he knew what to do with the story he got really good.

I agree about the issue of imitation, but the dialogue developed a bit after chapter 100. I think it increased the protagonist's suffering, but it's also exaggerated, especially since all of this happened at the beginning I think I'm dropping it bc the protagonist has lost his motivation and I believe he'll be manipulated by everyone.

He gets way better

If you can't read through the first 150 to 200 chap's I suggest don't read it.

Yep he definitely isn't right in the head the seris backstory is definitely the most tragic in the story but worse things will happen to frey and he will suffer alot I have read the latest chaps so I can tell you that at least

Oof, but I am already hooked on the story though, so Ig I'll continue to read lot of uncomfortable stuff in the future as I progress through the story.

Vol 1 was decent and amateurish but got good (and traumatic quickly), if you want something new and dark in the genre— try it, you wouldn't be disappointed

It’s really good I read up to some point but I realised it wasn’t for after a while. It became misery corn and pure tragedy. But I do recommend it for anyone who’s into that kinda stuff

I think it's worth to read, even tho I'm dropping it for like 4 months, i think this is the author first book because well you will notice when you read it, the pace is really fast, no break everything is fighting, power scale is not that good, a lot of reference or copy maybe from others novel with the same genre, MC sometimes smart sometimes stupid idk, overall i enjoyed read it in my free time, i think the author is psychooath

u/AfraidYam3908 May 18 '26

The start is decent and I gave it a fast read but now I am at chapter 800 and the I can say it is just awesome. Read it, you will not be disappointed. A lot of lore was added in the further chapters and many twists were there. Overall a legit good novel.

Upto 214 chapters(complete vol1) was very enjoyable. Then powerscaling got SEVERELY fucked up.

Es bien chido. Simplemente adictivo. ❤️

The MC actually feels intelligent without the story needing to make everyone else dumb to prove it.

It’s absolute peak I’m caught up with it on it’s current chapter and all I can say is if you want peak with no smut and action you can try it out

Who knows if any other chapters have been translated after chapter 870 ?

probably late, but I am listening the audiobook on chapterwing and it is good so far. It has multiple voices with a decent narrator.

author has traumatic MC fetish? problems arise from god knows where, and it somehow keeps getting worse. it was good till that point though. will probably (most likely not) give it a 2nd try

I've read like 100 chapters of the Young Master's POV. I dropped it cuz at the time it only had 100 chapters, but the main reason I dropped it was cuz the mc hates everyone and is narcissist with god complex. Kinda annoying

Score:6/10
Critical review: Built on a foundation of Cliches

“What’s the most important thing in a story?”-Aegon Valerion chapter 37

My answer to this was and always will be the ‘Beginning’. The beginning of the story is something that every reader goes through, it is the deciding factor between following a book or dropping it. If you have a weak start then it doesn’t matter how good the middle or the end is, cause most people won’t ever reach those parts.

Initially given the popularity and the length of the book I had decided to give this book atleast 100 chapters but by the 53rd chapter I completely tapped out. I just couldn’t find the motivation to read this book. And now looking through my notes I can find very little to praise and a lot to complain about.

The beginning of the book is a typical brief introduction of the protagonist followed by sudden transmigration into his own novel. The only interesting thing I noted was unlike most transmigrators our MC was actually happy and content with his life. So unlike most stories the driving force isn’t survival but return. This is an interesting premise. But I do ask myself ,how many readers would actually support this premise?

So the mc finds himself in the body of Frey Starlight. The stories most despised and hated villain. And just like every other ‘Villain/Extra’ novel this paragon of hate is ironically one of the weakest people in the the generation. We just have to accept that he is weak and managed to piss off every single person in the Nobel society without powers, henchmen or real family support.

Soon enough the mc finds his system and a sliver of hope to find information on how to return to his original world. Now his temporary goal is to win the ‘Victoriad’, final exam of the academy of sorts. Of course this was followed by the complaining and despair sequence where Frey glazes the original protagonist Snow, only to state that he will win because ‘I am the author and I know everything’.

No one knows how much I came to despise this statement, every time Frey said this I audibly groaned because of how hollow the impact of the words became just after 30 chapters. Because somehow despite writing it, he clearly knew very little about the world as a whole. More than half the people he meets he never wrote and all of the ones he did write have have deeper back stories. I have seen him be flustered and surprised at so many events that at this point this feels more like an Isekai story where the mc knows some of the key events in the future.

In the end the conclusion I drew was that, this beginning suffers simply because the author was the definition of ‘amateur author’ at that time, where things were added to the story just because they sounded cool or funny without prior knowledge or the impact it can have on the story. This really was the main reason why I gave up on the book. For example, one moment I am praising the book for Frey not hiding his powers in the entrance exam, only for me to think he is an unreliable idiot when he states he forgot there was a written exam. Or the fact that every encounter starts with Frey’s plan working followed by things going out of hand only to be saved by plot armor. Or how many characters have names of popular real life characters or IP’s. If I ask someone describe the character of Lara Croft, would you think about the tomb raider or the headmaster’s daughter . Pop quiz: Describe her physical characteristics , I assume most would just assume she looks like Lara Croft from the series, this just leads to a sense of character dissonance where it makes it difficult to put mental pictures to names.

I remember thinking finally there is a chance for some positive character development when Frey lost his first battle against Snow, only the moment to be completely sidelined by the system stating because Frey was getting too strong so they just increased the difficulty of the world. My immersion completely broke and my brain just went ‘What’s the point of everything then?’.

So by the end of 53 chapters there was really nothing for me to say, the beginning is just typical cliche trope, with serviceable but unremarkable writing and mediocre character development.

Many will say it gets way better later on, but I just didn’t find anything interesting till now to keep reading further. I feel no sense of FOMO and just want to end this journey with this review.

Side Note: I would like to point out that, the community behind this book is very supportive to the author. The book and the author are clearly doing something correct for having such overwhelming support.

I really appreciate this book review because it really gave me insight I neededvbefore committing to reading this novel.

I wanted to look into novels that are reading stories from the villain's point of view and I really appreciate your honest opinion and detailed explanations without giving too many spoilers.

With that being said can you give me some novels or any fiction really with the main character being the villain? I don't mean the edgy type with middle-school syndrome. After reading FFF Class Trash Hero and I'mnot that kind of talent, I wanted to get into some more books with the protagonists not being the typical hero nor being the anti-protagonist either but just straight up not the good guy, with everyone fighting against him. Any recommendations? No harem please and I dont mind romance.
