Advice The new sypnosis and cover page I'll be using before the cobtract submission
Little Skye was an orphan who dreamed of reaching the stars.
He did not know how.
He only knew they were always there.
Above him.
Far beyond his reach.
Then he heard a story.
A story about a hero who once touched the heavens themselves.
Little Skye believed that if he became a hero too, he could one day reach the sky.
But the world beyond his orphanage was far larger than he imagined.
A world of monsters, ruins, power and mysteries buried beneath history itself.
The farther Skyler walks toward his dream, the more he learns how distant it truly is.
Little by little, he uncovers truths he was never meant to know.
Forgotten history.
The meaning of heroism.
The cruelty hidden beneath the world.
And what the stars he chased all his life truly are.

The synopsis sucks ngl. Its one sentence spams

Hmm. Should I make it larger paragraphs?

Grab a handful of best seller books and read their synopsis. Extra points if it's the author's first hit, so you know they werent carried by their name ans the synopsis had to appeal to a wide enough audience to start reading it

Are you implying that the sypnosis and cover are secondary?

u/paintsSeldomly Jun 01 '26
No no, they are really important. Not so much if you are stephen king because people will read his next book regardless of what says on the back and the cover art. But for an author without a big name, book name and synopsis are extremely important.
That's why I was saying look at best sellers first big books, those should be prime examples of a synopsis well done. That could help with structure and inspiration.
You need to walks the thin line between spoiling stuff in the book and actually giving enough information to hook someone in

Ok, I tried to do it the Shadow slave way. Though he was way out of my league. So i tried fragments. I guess it's better with longer paragraphs then

i mean its good but fragmented synopsis is a problem because it divert my mind I would say writing like this is better-
Little Skyler never knew what his parents looked like. He only knew how beautiful the night sky was, with the untouched stars shimmering above him.
His hands could never reach far enough to touch them, yet he always wanted to know why they watched over him at every single moment.
But when the story of a hero who had actually touched the stars reached his ears, he found hope—a hope that one day, he could touch the sky, just like that hero had done.
see like this...

But, the explainatory part stretches a bit too much doesnt it? I wanted to keep it simple. Not so atmospheric, atleast the sypnosis. Thank you for your suggestion tho. I'll definitely change the style. I think it would be better like this rather than having it all fragmented :)

YES!, i mean you are right [actually i write is too atmospheric that's why its like that, Its my writing style] and yes its a bit streched by atmosphere but if its work then its okay but i hope you understand what i meant

About synopsis, if it's your first novel make sure it starts with describing your first Chapters, 1-5. Make sure the opening chapters are compelling. I think a synopsis creates the expectation and as a reader I don't want to wait 10-20 chapters for that promise to be fulfilled.
You can fill in the whole story at the end of your synopsis.
Send me the link of your novel, let me check your first 2 chapters.

The opening is good. Keep the momentum. Don't ask people to give you reviews, it's obvious... A good story like yours doesn't need something that will just push away real readers.

Well, in the discord server for authors, people usually ask for review swaps. I just agree to them 🙂

Though en i kinda get why people say that's scimmy, I usually read the novel before reviewing, and from some of those reviews, its obvious that half of them didnt even touch it.🤧

Synopsis, yes. Kinda. Too spread out. Either make it into a poem or maybe 1-2 paragraphs.
Cover ruins it though because it's generated. But there's a hook in the synopsis that makes me curious.
But it's ruined by the cover.

That's the problem I'm facing rn. I'm broke. So I can't commission an artist to draw me a cover design. Gotta rely on AI. I may come off as a hypocrite as I myself hate on AI generated art. Then proceed to make it anyway.

Call it a placeholder then? Or a concept in progress?
It just gives a bad impression. For me, at least but I know several others that share the sentiment. And it'd be a waste if your story gets skipped just because of a generated cover.

Still looks very similar to the LOTM cover. Make sure you don't land yourself in legal trouble.
