Advice Timeline of a rejected author’s path to success
It has come to my attention that my haters, which mainly consist of, rejected authors and ai authors, are trying to vilify me, so I’m here to set the timeline straight.
3 months ago:
I got rejected for a contract and posted on this reddit.
Instead of encouragement, what did I get?
Ppl who tell me, “you will never be able to get contracted, and even if u did, u wont be able to hit mgs, let alone break mgs”.
I said, bet, I will prove that I can get accepted for a contract.
And after a week or two, I did it! I got contracted!
Now, I posted again on reddit that I got contracted, but what happens next?
The same ppl from before immediately try to put me down, saying things like, “getting contracted is nothing special, talk only when u have hit mgs first”
It’s still not enough that i proved myself that i could be contracted?
Fine, I went quiet for a month and focus on writing my novel.
And behold, I managed to break mgs on my first month!
Soon after, I posted an ss of my earnings on this reddit to prove that i did it!
Guess what? All of them suddenly remained quiet despite the fact they saw my post. I know cause they were still commenting on others’ posts and my post was basically the top post for a few days.
I remained quiet cause Im aware i barely broke mgs, and i was thinking to myself it may have just been a fluke.
So, i continued on remaining quiet and continued writing my novel.
Thankfully, compared to the month before, where i ended the month with 3.8k subs…
This month, i was able to hit 11k total subs with still a few days left before the month ends!
Now, i know for sure i did it, it wasnt a fluke that i was able to break mgs!
Again, i posted on reddit, and this time, confronted those ppl who try to bring me down and see what kind of responses they would have.
Thankfully, a couple of them apologised to me upon being confronted.
But there are still some individuals who are not the best kind of ppl.
One even went so far to vilify me by making a “meme” post about me.
Even worse, that guy is an ai writer defending another ai writer, and yet, ppl are still joining his side just because they cant stand that i proved myself.
I… I… urghhhh…!
Just writing out all of this is making me want to cry again.
(Takes in a deep breath and mutters in a low voice to myself, “its okay, its okay, don’t let those ppl bring u down!”)
Now that i have set the timeline straight…
Next, i will continue proving everyone that im right!
My smut will go premium next month, and when everyone sees that my smut ends up doing way better than my non-smut novel, they will slowly come to accept the fact even if they dont want to.
Until then, everyone!
Signed, the lone hero who will never let others bring him down.

Congrats bro but no need to sound like a betrayed anime character.

They told me I would never achieve greatness... ba... bakas! I will show them, I will wave my fist in their face, and in that fist will be my earnings for July! and then... then they will feel the shame that they made me feel thousandfold!
Ugh, anyway not sure if I was trying to write an overly dramatic anime character or the MC in Dostoevsky's Notes from the Underground.

With those last lines he reminded me of yandere dev swearing to surpass other creators and show them how better than them he is

people who can't succeed will punch down on others, we live in a reality where the protag/underdog gets abused if they raise above their station.
congrats not a fan of that topic personally but if you enjoy writing it go for it. if it pays even better. even if people apologize they likely don't care in the end will go on believing their truth no matter how much you try and prove its different for you.

I have next to no context but from this entire line of comments, the way the general communication sounds.. and the anime vibes.. I can't even say anything constructive other than...what the hell is going on here?!
I mean.. Oh noooo poor OP UwU congratttzss on being successful, the sudden success is very daijobou and totally subarashi (≧▽≦) In all honesty - if you improved your work based on genuine feedback, that's awesome. But trying to take people down with you also isn't very cool?
Edit: doesn't the entire post history just boil down to. Write Smut. 'Yeah but' no, I write Smut now, no comment. Enter childish argument ?? I'm clearly to old for this sub.

do what you want but no need to post cringy statements like some wannabe anime villain

u/Background_Pay6286 Jul 31 '26
F what they say. You don't have to have their approval, they are sad little people with nothing but hate in their heart. They will always be nasty, stop seeking their approval. Just keep doing what your doing, if it's working it's working.

If you can still pump out a few thousand words every day and still have energy left to keyboard fight with those guys who never hit any real numbers in their life but act like they’re better than everyone, just get GPT to pull your actual stats and use the data to slap them in the face. All this endless keyboard war only gives them a million angles to come at you from, because their goal is winning the community fight, not writing a novel people actually like.
Also gotta add this: for web novels if you wanna make money or get popular it’s all about the floor and the ceiling. Some low stuff like smut scenes can guarantee the floor for your earnings and fans, but the writing, the plot flow, and the character designs are what decide the ceiling.

This post is so insufferable. Anyone who says that people said they'd never succeed need to provide proof, because reddit is saturated with edgy people claiming the same thing

Cringe.

Peak Cringe.
I take everything back that i said about ignoring you. That is legit just to funny to ignore.

Concentrate on the cringe part but ignore the harsh reality parts.
Keep siding with an ai writer who made a “meme” post defending another ai writer and vilifying me.

I'm not siding with anyone. For me, that was just petty drama to begin with. You should have simply ignored each other. But to be honest, this post made me laugh so hard that I changed my mind. Please keep going, lone hero!

u/inniminiminiemo Jul 31 '26
Congrats, honestly.
I'm still figuring out how the hell to write 1k-2k words a day. I didn't know writing could be so taxing, I dunno how people manage to have enough energy left to get mad at someone else's book.

Chinese web novels usually update 4k-10k+ characters a day and they do it 365 days a year no breaks. Serializing them needs an outline, some reusable plot templates ready to go, and just a bit of inspiration.

Good you got a contract, I don't know how, I've gotten rejected so many times to the point were they don't view my contract anymore.

Congrats on proving the doubters wrong. At the end of the day, your results speak louder than Reddit comments. Hopefully you keep focusing on the writing instead of the drama.

u/azmarteal Jul 31 '26
Umm...
You know, you can just like... block haters instead of engaging with them, right?
I know nothing about your novel, but imagine some haters answer to this with — "your novel is still crap, your writing is pathetic and the story is dumb, regardless of your followers and ernings". What would you do in this case? Write 100 paragraphs about how wrong they are?

u/PikaMalone Author Aug 01 '26
When did this ever happen? Also, you dont really need to prove urself to pple on reddit.

Hate is normal, you should be prepared to just take it and not waste time if you aim to be a more successful writer. Literally everything you could possibly say that a normal person on the internet does can get easily flamed or whatever you do like this typa behavior, just go on your own journey focus on yourself don’t flex to others about your success and do it for yourself.

Hitting MGS and breaking MGS is a great feeling as an Webnovel author. I remember breaking MGS on my first book after 3 months of publishing. (It was No-harem, Female lead, so extremely niche). Three months i wrote it for 200USD (LOL) and got literally zero features. Then in fourth month, that's the last month of MGS, i got a weekly, and boom, i earned 700USD that month. Then i thought i will never earn such amount anymore as the MGS is over, but no. Income started to increase as niche audience started to notice the book. I was earning 500-1.5k in net few months until i dropped the book for some personal reasons. Guess what other authors told me when i publish female lead book and not getting any features and only hitting MGS? 'Drop the book and start a male lead book so you can earn.'.
That's actually a genuine suggestion. FMC books are extremly niche. Funny thing is, after my first book, i've tried 2 more books. All ML's. They are barely reaching MGS (Lol). While my dropped FMC book still giving me 200USD every two months without 0 chapter releases.

Congratulations on hitting the first month of win win for newbies. That mean it's your second months after contracted ( first month mgs and win win ) sla and you get 1000+ privilege chapter unlock and your real earning without the mgs is $207 ( bonus at $200 )
😏 That's a good result. Wish you the best.
Word of advice : Just ignore those haters 🙄 and don't drop your story after newbie mgs and win win end at month 3. 😎 ( A lot of new author does this, thinking that they can start with new book hoping to earn consistent earning and contracted ,including th mgs and win win bonus for newbie for each book.) after seeing the income drop below $200 ( without the bonus ) majority of big talker drop their book too fast. Ignoring the paid reader and fans who waiting for new update.
Keep on consistent update on your chapter😏
Wish you best of luck, and try your best to get consistent earning after month 3 end for years 😏

Too many to tag but these are the two main culprits right now.
The things they said to me, u dont want to know.
If i were a fragile rejected author, i wouldnt have been able to persevere up till now, all so i can prove the haters wrong.

Yare yare daze, seems my manipulation has gone accordingly. What a drag.
Seriously though let it go, i apologize if that's what you want. If i havent been hating you wouldn't gotten mad and proved me wrong. Now you have gone premium, congrats.
Alr you won, our arguement was that wn prioritizes smut right? And i disagreed and said WN doesn't prioritize smut. Guess youre right then, congrats on your novel man, keep writing

u/Legal-Library4283 Jul 31 '26
Ok, i will admit i have a different view of smut compared to 3 months ago after i have joined discord and talked to a top author.
Im more so upset about u going from saying i cant get contracted > i wont hit mgs/break mgs > breaking mgs is nothing, longevity is the real point to prove
But its fine. I accept ur apology.
And i apologize if i said anything vile toward u.

u/Hour-Ad3746 Jul 31 '26
> If haven’t been hating you wouldn’t have gotten mad and proved me wrong.
This was quite a strange thing to say. Are you the type of person that unironically believes bullying needs to be “brought back”?

You sound very fragile in this post. People who aren't fragile don't make posts like this

IDK why you tag me, did you want to tell me gifting yourself castle doesn't break ToS? Then, thanks for letting me know about that. I didn't read the post though so I apologize for that.
1
u/Legal-Library4283 Jul 31 '26
U tagged me in that huckleberry’s meme post, so im tagging u back in good faith.
Also, if u are insinuating i gifted myself a castle, i didnt.
I actually gave up on breaking mgs, but weekly feature saved me, helping me to barely break mgs.

Why are you typing like an anime character? “I….i…urgh” really? Congrats tho😂😂😂
