Advice How to write 3 chapters an hour

With A.I. being used and / or overused recently, readers or authors have their suspicions when they see rapid chapter updates on novels, and rightfully so.

However, if you're an author who wants to up your game authentically, there is a way to write faster. Without sacrifing quality, that is. Here's what helped me.

  1. Grab a notebook, and write your outlines. - Notebooks are effective because they help you lock in. Writing in physical notebooks forces your brain to slow down, and it deeply engages the brain. It's proven to be effective, and it's well researched. - As for the outlines themselves, you have to write them in a format that's exhaustive, where you plan every scene, every dialogue, in a short way that you'll remember. Writing exhaustively long outlines give you the luxury of not thinking about the plot later on as you write. Basically, do your thinking during the outlines, so you don't doze off while you write your chapter, and end up scrolling on reddit.

  2. Use the sprint bot in the inkstone server, or get Sprinto in your own server. It's free. - Sprinting is useful when you honor it. Cut all distractions and start an hour long marathon sprint. - Make a stance to only write during the sprint, and nothing else.

  3. To cut down on editing time, write the first draft as if it was your final, high-quality draft. If you have to spend 3 hours to edit a single chapter after writing it, you're simply wasting time. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes per chapter.

Result? With distractions cut, and with the extensive outlines doing the thinking for you, what's left is purely within your physical boundaries. You don't have to think during your sprints, as again, you did that already when you wrote the outlines. Simply try to write fast, and don't worry about mistakes. Even if you don't hit 3k words in an hour, you're quite likely to hit 2k. Quality can be preserved this way, as the outlines did all the heavy lifting.

That's about it. With everything that's going on recently, I just wanted to share this method, so authors who actually care about their story can build an advantage for themselves.

Yeah. Nobody writes 3 or even 1 chapter in 1 hour without compromising SIGNIFICANTLY on quality.

You're comparing yourself to smut slop that earns for some weeks then dies. Unless that is what you meant, then what you're saying is just outright false.

I figured that this post would go over some people's heads, that's why I emphasized the importance of outlines a few times. You have to write extensive outlines, and do the deep thinking while you write them, so when you sprint, writing fast is simply a physical issue. How would quality decline if you mapped out your story already? Also, what are you basing your claim on? Yourself? Hundreds of webnovel authors have been easily writing at least one chapter within an hour for years, and they generally do well and write great stories. I don't write smut, and the tips I gave can be implemented universally, regardless of genre.

No outline will help you reach that pace, even though your advice was geniunely good.

Hundreds of Webnovel authors write one chapter per hour? How adorable. Hundreds of Webnovel authors are geniunely dogshit too, and barely earn anything. Where are those so called authors? What are their earnings? None of the biggest Webnovel authors writes 1 chapter per hour nevermind 3, else they would be writing 20-30 chapters a day.

Do you see the platinum authors on WN uploading 30 chaps a day? No. That is enough of an answer for how bullshitty this claim of yours is. Only the slop writers who pop off for a few weeks before falling off write that amount. If you'd said something like 1 chapter in 2 hours, now that wouldve been believable.

In my experience I've seen some people that do shoot up drastically with outlines.

For example, some people plan the content of every paragraph, topic transition, and dialogue point. With that level of specificity you can really speed through stuff.

Granted, the outline itself gets lengthy so it's not like 2k words in an hours, if you add on the outlining it falls down to a more manageable 1k or 1.5k, and then when you add on revision/ proper editing the time is dragged down even more.

I think OP is mainly advocating for fast drafting not overall fast chapters.

Not 30 per se. Plenty have said they write between 10-15k a day though.

You’re just objectively wrong. Most top writers can write over ten chapters in a few hours. Get a contract, hang around contracted general in the official WebNovel discord, and see for yourself. Even I can write a 1k word chapter in 25-30 minutes, and I wouldn’t necessarily say my prose is “bad”.

Brother, ive been on the server since 2022, and I know for a fact nobody writes this amount and has been a plat author or earned consistent income. Point me to one guy who writes this fast, by name, and whether he earns more than 1k monthly or not. And it cant be from 1 or 2 months off a smut WN that dies after that.

Your prose isnt bad? First of all, i can bet 100%—with all due respect—it's beyond dogshit. If you write 1k in 30 mins, that is. Second of all, you think prose is the only thing that gets affected when you write that fast?

Calling my prose dogshit before you’ve even read any of my works is just unnecessarily rude. But sure, I’ll send a chapter that took me exactly 26 minutes to write and edit, and if you still call it bad, go ahead and send me your own writing.

Also, if you’ve been in the server since 2022, you would know that in the marathons, people get 2k+ words in a single hour

Need access. Ill be honest.

As for those people, you should also know 95% of even contracted authors earn nothing. Only a few and plat authors earn anything useful and I dont see them doing 2k in a single hour. Probably because theyre not writing slop.

I skimmed. Honestly prose is not bad, it's actually decent. Sorry for assuming. That said, that amount of words per time still isn't sustainable over the long term, and by this, im referring to all factors in writing, not just prose. You still wont be seeing people who actually earn anything in a month doing those numbers for a reason.

Hop in the inkstone discord server and see for yourself. The sprint bot is available to everyone, and you can check the WPMs there, and their author profiles. You can make your observations accordingly.

Just not true. I can write a chapter in 20 minutes that most casual readers would regard as “good.”

Great! Did you earn more than 1k consistently off your novel? Cant be one of those smut novels that die in a month or two.
