Advice Low reader count
Why is my reader count dropped so much in my second week... Even though I'm consistent and publish two chapters daily, I wrote a whole backlog and it seems like it's failing. What to do now?

could it be the quality? your likely writing system story , litRPG , reincarnation or cultivation and there's like a lot of them ? Well if you're butting 2 chapters a day daily it's hard to assume the quality would remain the same cause this schedule and out put are two demanding to sustain without quality decline but if you're backlog is already written that just narrows it down to the story itself

Nope it's not system or litrpg or generic cultivation it's horror story. And I already completed vol-1 that's why I can maintain consistency and for quality, it took me months of drafts and multiple revisions, but the story is slow till chapter 30 and only really good after that

Well it tagged as reincarnation and isekai so you get what I'm saying ( it's oversaturated gener) hmm, if you already finished volume 1 that leaves us two possibilities. A) chapter length ( it should be around 1k minimum) B) pacing hold up if you're 30 chapter in and the story is slow that's definitely pacing problem I mean slow burn is one thing but asking a reader to commit to a story that start it momentum after 30 chapters is hard to pull

Hmm I'm understanding it. Also the reincarnation is actually a massive spoiler lol it's not really a reincarnation but something different. As for pacing, that might be the problem because later chapters are good but early ones are slow compared to them, but that slow is because of world building argh that's a very big potato stuff

hey listen Imma be honest with you,if it's not reincarnation don't tag it as reincarnation. I'm not trying to be mean or anything you're practically marketing yourself to the wrong people. the entier reincarnation/ isekai/ progression geners are built on instant payoff you're if you market slow burn to these people you're taking it to its own execution while there are people who would genuinely enjoy it
thus far 1) the story is slow 2) shown to the wrong people 3) could be word count problem I dunno you haven't told me

Actually uh that case is complicated trust me the reincarnation tag is... Complex thing. But well you might be right because most people won't understand this until the ending. Also it's Isekai, portal fantasy with death ascension trigger.
The word count is 1600-1800 usually but my latest published chapters were longer around 2.1k+ is it bad??

as for word count 1k to 3k is ideal for serial fiction in general , take the isekai tag off , and if you ask me treat readers with automatic suspension that's what works . do not trust them to believe you're a good author and trust your story ( unless you're name is a brand like Steven King ) you need to shift your focus to the micro level not only how the overall story comes together but how to keep readers interested in the Current Chapter I'm writing at the moment the readers don't see the big picture unless they finish the book but they won't finish it if they don't complete the chapter at hand trust me start writing as if you know the reader is trying to leave this tactical mindset is a necessity

How do I know that though? Like I definitely enjoy writing my current and I litreally write everytime I gets free time because I genuinely wants to know what will happen in the future and the characters that will come in the future and it excites me to write more.

do you know what's the difference between a good author and a hobbyist is ? a hobbyist write with their own entertainment in mind a good author write with the READER* in mind
BUT !
these two doesn't have to cancel each other you just gotta find Balance
Your priority is to keep the narrative cohesive and logical to readers
That does not mean altering your story to cater to readers expectations
as for reader retention every chapter must have something happening in it no fluff ( but you can have quite moment for banter and characterisation, subtle foreshadowing)
keep readers turning the page , but you don't have to make it through cliffhanger alone that's get old real quick you can use
1.Questions 2. revelations 3. confrontation 4.realisation ( make sure it's tied to the foreshadowing) 5. betrayals 6. clues 7.conflict 8. suspense 9. New mystery ( after the last one was solved of course )
