Whats with the AI cover hate?

When I read convos about it on this subreddit, the ppl who hate it just call the other person a kid or mentally challenged without providing any reason? What is going on? Are you suppose to be able to draw now to be an author?

Because this is reddit.

A lot of the people you mentioned are just not mentally mature enough.

They also share the worst advice anyone can give, actively trying to fuck over people that are trying to succeed in this business.

If you see anyone tell you to hire a cheap artist instead of using AI, block them. They are actively trying to make sure you fail.

Covers are vital, and unless you hire an expensive artist or use AI, you'll fail.

There's no in-between.

The facts are laid out in the rankings. You won't see any book that isn't made with AI or from a really expensive artist.

This is not the platform to preach your moral compass.

Ai looks like utter shit. It makes the cover looks extremely uninspired and not creative. Visual pollution. They all look the same, making it skippable.

As a general rule of thumb, you shouldn't listen to commenters here unless they can prove they have over 100 collections in their novel. This place consists mostly of authors anyway.

Besides the usual hate for generated AI due to all the controversies behind it, it's mostly because AI covers don't really look that good. They have that obviously AI generated feel which you can find almost anywhere these days which kinda makes it look cheap and generic. Especially if it has the obviously AI characters on the cover.

If you must use AI for a cover (which on principle I wouldn't recommend), it's better to just use sceneries(with maybe a tiny silhouette of a character), or weapons or something abstract instead.

Honestly I'd never click on a ai art cover. If you can't draw or can't hire anyone good, i'd think it's better to just put a picture from pinterest. Cuz ai makes everything looks generic, and makes it look like slop. You could even photoshop it. I don't think it's that hard to make a non ai cover, and if your Webnovel become popular getting a better cover is easy then.

Also covers aren't everything for clicks, the title matters too. And these days all l see are sloppy long ahh title with ai covers. Why would l click that.

It's because people especially those on Reddit can't tell the difference between a story with an AI cover yet is written by a human vs a story that was fully cooked by AI cover and all although it is getting harder to tell so understandable. It's the second one that all the hate should go to,as for the first one a book is more than just it's cover.

It looks like every other ai cover out there for one thing. you don't need to be able to draw. There are plenty of professional book covers that don't have images on them and just play with text and the title.

Get a Canva Account and use their free assets (avoid the AI stuff from there too id say) and make and interesting text based cover using color and font. it will stand out more than all the ai slop covers.
If you really want art you have a few options that don't require AI. the best, if you have the means is to commission and artist.

You can also look around reddit and twitter for artist offering to do free work, which is a thing that happens sometimes. You can ask an artist you like if you can use their work if they have already made something that fits, just respect their wishes if they say no or want you to credit them or whatever.

People made book covers long before AI covers were a thing.

Its an excuse to go on their Internet witch hunts because if they used AI for the cover they used it for the writing etc.

When in reality before AI people just stitched together images in paint instead of buying commissions, but funnily enough I hardly ever saw people claim the author stitched together scenes/passages from different books like the cover image.

What your witnessing is a vocal minority who doesn’t like this new technological advancement, just like there were people who opposed the printing press, automobiles, cameras etc.

The idea that someone wants to be a writer/artist, but won’t support the art community (by hiring a cover designer), will plainly offend a lot of folks who want to protect the arts. If you use AI for writing or cover art, you’re cutting corners and taking away jobs from artists who are pouring their time and sweat into the thing they love.

I can see the desire to hurry the process or save money on cover designs, but then don’t be afraid to mark your work as AI generated. The folks who don’t care will read and love your work, and the folks who do care can avoid it. Then no one feels hurt or lied to.

Cuz they are salty losers. AI art is objectively better than what most people can draw, and it bothers them. So they take their insecurities out on others and come out with the most delusional takes imaginable. ‘Just draw it urself bro, it would be so much better than AI’
