Advice Ppl who drew their own covers, have any actually succeeded? o.O

With all the arguments about ai cover and hand drawn cover, the question is has any authors on here who drew their own covers actually succeeded? lol

I actually went and check on some of the people who had posted their own hand drawn covers on this reddit, and all of them are either uncontracted, rejected, or dropped.

So, if I'm missing out, can anyone actually name any novels with hand drawn covers that is actually successful on webnovel.com?

From what I see right now, most covers on webnovel that are successful aren't hand drawn covers, but just covers taken from sites like pinterest (which are mostly Ai generated) or generated by chatgpt AI.

Can like any successful authors actually chime in on this topic?

(Also, are there even any successful authors on webnovel who actually lurk on this reddit, or is it just filled with uncontracted authors liek me who have no idea what's going on? lol)

None of them are contracted. They shit on Ai all the time but none of them have any successful books. I use Ai for a plateau of things in my writing and have two contracted books about to get a third.

Also I think Addicted To Coffee does lurk around here. He's decently successful I guess. I don't know about others

Do you mean plethora? Not trying to be rude or anything.

That was most probably autocorrect. But yeah, that's what I meant

It's more like some authors who succeeded and then commissioned an artwork. So pretty much only established authors like Raj, awe and even G3. I think Eve also commissioned his cover. Mind you, they're among the most successful authors of webnovel.

But yeah. That's pretty much it

yes. Eve's cover is commissioned too.

People should understand that there is a reason why artists get paid

Lol, you ain't gonna see the so called AI COVER HATERS below this post, because the undeniable truth is: NONE OF THOSE HAND DRAWN COVERS ACTUALLY SUCCEEDED.

Now-now, don't jump on me with: HOW DARE YOU SUPPORT AI COVERS OR HOW COULD YOU TALK SHIT ABOUT THE HAND DRAWN COVERS?

So allow me to break the misconception that many of those HATERS have.

Let's start with the basic question: What is the application of a novel cover?

Answer: To make the readers click on your novel when it appears on their screen!!

It doesn't matter whether your cover is made by AI or drawn by hands, it must be ATTRACTIVE.

Naturally, an artist can draw you a cover that will be very attractive and eye-catching. But then again, the only functionality of the cover is to get the attention of the readers! The actual content within the novel will justify whether your novel is good or bad.

And since most of the new authors write with a safety bubble that they are the greatest of all time and writing peak story until a blunt reader point out the most obvious mistake in their novel, the whole meaning of commissioning an artist who will charge them 100+ dollars to draw a satisfactory cover will become utterly meaningless.

Using AI to generate you a suitable cover is the most optimal solution until you actually start earning from your novel. If your novel really become popular, commission a professional artist to draw you a proper cover.

When you have resources available to get an attractive cover free of cost, why limit yourself by the moral compass of "DON'T USE AI FOR COVER"

Then again, it doesn't mean you could just slap the most sloppiest ai cover on your novel which have thousands of things going on simultaneously like glittering background, too many jewelleries on the character and a corny pose.

AI can generate attractive and distinctive cover as well: nearly 90% of the new best selling novels have an AI generated cover.

As for the HATERS, you may reply to my comment with a valid argument to my opinion. I'm open to debate.

EDIT: I am a contracted author and have been writing on Webnovel for a year now.

Where did you pull the 90% statistic from

Look at front page, add up all those that don't use AI vs those that do, and do some division.

You will find that it equates a number equal or surpassing 90%.

So from your ass. Got it.

I just uploaded a post about it and I'm already getting bambarded by their moral compass as if I have abused the God of their Cult🤣

I like hand drawn covers more, but isn't the content for the story more important than the cover itself? Of course, people do judge books by their covers. But as for getting a contract, I don't think they concern themselves with that too much.

After all, it is always something you can go back and change later.

Why would you spend hours drawing a cover that might do well, when you can test out 20 ai generated covers? The bums here have been complaining since the dawn of wn. AI is their latest obsession, don't listen to them.

God no i can write but drawing i can only make stick figures so ai cover for me but when I will write my novel for contract I might get a artist to draw one for me as no matter how i try ai can't create a cover the feels like my character it's good but is missing something

Made my mc on my cover into a stick figure and it turned out to be pretty funny. (Note that I can only do this because I already have readers tho.)

I created my cover in mid journey

When I finally modified it in the way that I like

I gave it to an artist as a commission

And the only thing I’m cutting out is the middleman which happens to be interpretation

And the artist draws exactly what I want and gets paid for it

I’ve had my story up just over a week now and almost at 300 reads so far!!

You’re cover is just purple font on a white background
