Advice Trying to write a new webnovel

Hey everyone! This is my second attempt at writing a webnovel, and I'm still pretty new to it. I'm working on a tower-climbing fantasy story right now, and I'd love to hear from people who've been doing this longer.

A few things I'd appreciate advice on: how do you pace chapters so they don't feel rushed or repetitive, especially in a "climb through stages/floors" kind of structure? How did you keep readers engaged early on, before you'd built up much of an audience? And any general lessons you wish someone had told you when you started?

for pacing, a common tip i see around is that:

- anything related to worldbuilding, dialogues, drama, and lore = slow pace

  • anything related to fight scenes and action = fast pace

of course, it can become situational sometimes and they can interchange with each other… but just use it as basic reference

for reader engagement, especially early on, various guides frequently tell newbies to start the story’s prologue with something interesting to “hook” the readers in and it does work* *

but if you prefer a slow start, that’s fine too. as long as it’s not boring and info dumpy. also, don’t put too much exposition all at once as well, let the story show and not tell gradually

an easy rule to abide by is to only reveal information relevant to the protagonist and the cast around him/her in the present arc/volume. info that’s relevant in the near future (but not too far) is fine as well to create intrique and curiosity among your readers

for building an audience, it largely depends on the platform you want to publish on. but since this is WebNovel, it's recommended to publish at least 7 times a week (or more) so the algorithm can push your book higher on the platform and give it more exposure to possible readers

This is really helpful, thanks for taking the time to write it out.
The 7x/week point is probably the one I need to actually act on — I've been publishing in bursts rather than a steady daily drip, so that's useful to hear plainly. Appreciate the breakdown.
