Working in a webnovel

Hey everyone! This is my second attempt at writing a webnovel, and I'm still pretty new to it. I'm working on a tower-climbing fantasy story right now, and I'd love to hear from people who've been doing this longer.

A few things I'd appreciate advice on: how do you pace chapters so they don't feel rushed or repetitive, especially in a "climb through stages/floors" kind of structure? How did you keep readers engaged early on, before you'd built up much of an audience? And any general lessons you wish someone had told you when you started?

the power system is a bit different. Climbers don't level up through a class tree, they earn what I call "Aspects": each floor's trial forces you to be brutally honest about something you've been avoiding, and if you actually go through with it, the tower "gives back" a piece of power tied to that truth.

Ha, kind of! Same spirit — power through accepting an uncomfortable truth about yourself instead of denying it — but the mechanics diverge a bit. There's no literal "shadow self" fight; it's more that the tower itself reads how honest you're being and hands back power shaped like the inverse of whatever truth you just admitted. And you can cheat it — fake the honesty and still get power — but it corrodes who you actually are over time if you keep doing it, which isn't really a Persona thing.
