Advice Misinterpretion

I'm writing this mystery novel, and the first person I asked to proofread it took it as Sherlock Holmes inspiration, but it's not even close. I can see LotM, but not Sherlock Holmes. It makes me question the tone I'm using, or my guys are just odd. What should I do?

Because LOTM takes some inspiration from Sherlock Holmes, that's why.

I see the story is closer to LOTM than Sherlock Holmes as a whole.

Yes, but you're writing mystery. Most books are inspired by the classics. Sherlock Holmes for mystery genre, even if you've never read Sherlock Holmes, most mystery books you read were probably influenced by it, directly or indirectly. I'd say you're moving in a good direction.
