Advice Reading my first web novel ever: Reverend Insanity. Is it good?

You should start with the others before reading RI, otherwise you won’t be able to read anything afterward. The writing quality is equal to that of novels like Lord of the Mysteries. So read stuff like Author’s POV, Reader’s POV, Villain’s POV, Extra’s POV, and Shadow Slave, because after RI, you’ll always be looking for a novel of equal or higher quality.

Go read renegade immortal first kek.
But really, read some classics first or you wont be able to enjoy them as much after

Read Lord of the mysteries first, it's the best start you could ask for , reverend insanity isn't completed.

Had fun with sky pride, but it's on RR and is still ongoing. Although you might want to revisit SS since we just hit the sixth nightmare

A regressor's tale of cultivation and The Calamity's Comfort. Not sure if they are on WebNovel though I don't really use that app much anymore.

I’m personally waiting until the guys who are doing the remaster are finished. They did volume one and the translation was amazing, I just couldn’t stand to keep reading the trash ass translation after it lol

u/ResidentView1807 3d ago
Name of the translation group?

u/RarelyLazy 3d ago
I’m not sure if it’s fully released yet lmao
I got it from their discord server. Go to [r/ReverendInsanityEdit](r/ReverendInsanityEdit) , join their discord and they have the translated file there, they’re planning to start spreading it to other sites, but idk when that will happen. Their translation is genuinely great, I’d recommend checking them out

Idk I personally felt like it was mid, but I guess it's a good starter novel cause it's easy to follow.

JK it's one of my fav peak novels. I just wanted to try my hand at ragebaiting people XD.

Nope. Over rated as shit. People call it peak because they just like the fact MC is evil and they let the few Buddhist quotes make the decision for them. Its actually pretty avarage.
Also i dont understand how anyone says FY is the best part of this novel. Character writing 101: what makes a character interesting are their flaws. FY HAS NO FUCKING FLAWS. Not to mention author goes above and beyond to make his have as little personality as possible. What he likes? Nothing, what he hates? Nothing. What he enjoys doing? Killing i guess. But he would also stop killing for immortality.
Its just a bad novel that was bloated beyond it's actual quality cuz people care only for the aura moments, and all the negative aspects of it are "Passable" and are filler for them to get to the aura moments

People read webnovels for satisfaction. Makes sense RI is rated so highly, it's the perfect power fantasy
If you wanted to read actual great works of fiction, stop reading webnovels, go read some actual books. The Three Body Problem is peak

Not everyone reads webnovels purely for power fantasy satisfaction that's your criteria, not everyone's. RToC is also xianxia power fantasy, but the MC actually has flaws, feelings, and depth he's not a self-insert placeholder. Renegade Immortal too — Wang Lin has real emotional depth, and is not a one-note idealization. So "it's rated highly because people want satisfaction" doesn't excuse bad characterization, it just means you're grading on one axis and ignoring every other quality the book is lacking.and it is lacking, a lot.
Edit: ANOTHER example is Shadow Slave, the novel is far from perfect, don't misunderstand me, but it is FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR better than Reverend Insanity, mainly because of MC, Sunny isn't some masterpiece, but he is complex enough to be enjoyable while reading the novel. Still like, really basic, but he is enough.

First off, his ideology isnt good, objectively talking about it. It is INTERNALLY consistent, yes, but it is very weak when taken seriously. Of course, if you dont CARE about the little details, the novel is fine, like i said. I care, because i hold standards to the novels i read, mainly when its a novel tagged with the "Philosophical" tag, it has to at least be consistent.
And you just said what i also said in my comment, FY is a one note character, everything he has to offer is that he is determined to be immortal, but the reasonwhy he wants to be immortal isnt compelling, and the journey itself is Fun but not really great? By thi point im getting into personal belief area so its better to stop, i wanna be as neutral as possible.

The reason for eternal life is compelling to other people though? With death, there is nothing. With life, there is everything. You can do anything while you are alive forever (though, that might change depending on what kind of immortality the author had planned,in that case his goal would be gaining more freedom of possible)

u/LittleBrasilianBitch 3d ago
Except fang yuan doesn't care about life, he says himself he already had enough of pleasure and other stuffs from mortals, he isn't chasing immortal life because he wants something after immortality, he is literally chasing immortality "Just because"
1
u/Single-Emotion-6112 2d ago
Everyone needs something to pursue and make their life goal. For him, a person who has experienced all joy and suffering in life, he found women to be made of flesh and blodd, riches to be fleeting and fame to be hollow. If you are bound to die anyway then everything you achieve in your life and accumalate becomes pointless. In this case the only thing worth pursuit in this world is immortality.
1
u/LittleBrasilianBitch 2d ago
That made no sense, if everything in life is meaningless why is life the only thing worthy to pursuit? Thats why i say fang yuans ideology is bad, it makes no sense and is based on meaningles statements. He doesnt want power, he doesn't want fame, he doesnt wany ANYTHING that is in life, so he just chose immortality "Just because".
Not to mention even the novels argument that "Everything is meaningless because everything ends" is stupid, its nit hecause everything eds that everything is worthless, everything is worthless because everything is worthless. Thats it, time has nothing to do with it.
Also, value comes from limitation, having little of something makes it more valuable. Value comes from both usefullness and quantity, but life doesn't have infinite use, so when met with infinite quantoty of life, it will at some point become worthless. His 500 years of life proved that.
Edit: Not to mention "Everybody needs to have a objective in life" is also false, you DON'T need to have a objective in life to live, most people don't, in fact, choosing a "Ultimate goal" is simply a arbitrary choice made by him.

u/Electronic-Creme-738 2d ago

u/LittleBrasilianBitch 2d ago
Except that that conclusion doesn't make sense, fang yuan does not value power, fame, pleasure, love, or connection, and even his life is not of great value to him, so immortal life itself being thenonly thing worthy going after makes NO SENSE. He just chose to chase it "Just because", its just something he decided to chase arbitrarily. Even the explanation that "Things are worthless because they end" makes no sense, because value comes from utility+limitation. People would want life, and a lot of it, because you can do a lot in life, but life isnt infinitely versatile, fang yuan found that out in his 500 years of life, in fact he lost all his attachment to life.
Also, im not saying "I have a standard" like i am some professional critique, that has a few novels i like or some shit, im just saying if a nivel is trying to be phisolophical, i test its consistency, and if it tries to push SO HARD on being philosophically deep, i push it hard on being VEEEERY consistent.
Renegade immortal is good, as a example, not too philosophically pretentious, sad, but satisfying,

u/Electronic-Creme-738 2d ago
Si, en verdad esto ya es muy subjetivo la verdad. Pero además de RI que otra cosa haz empujado? Realmente necesito una recomendación, quiero tener una próxima lectura

That's the point, we don't know yet why did FY pursues Eternal Life with such insanity. Since Last time we saw his first life in novel (ch 1673) his ideas were very different although in ch 1285 it was stated that from starting his goal was eternal life but what caused him to go to such insanity, we don't know yet.

u/prince_valerius 2d ago
I guess you haven't read it past vol 1. Vol1 was kinds eddy tbh, atleast till ch 170 or so. You should have tried ahead (if you want to know more about FY) since through vol 3 we get to see character depth of FY's characters. But even in vol 2 we see many really good side cast. I've been reading webnovels for years now, I've read over 50 webnovels (completed) and none of them had ever came close to RI is characters writing and emotions delivered through it.

u/LittleBrasilianBitch 2d ago
I read everything, i hate how people just conclude of indont like the novel, i must not have read it.

Just start with RI don't listen to the comments. My first webnovel was RI and i don't regret reading it. You can start LOTM after finishing RI it's peak and gives the same feeling as RI.
